History
Established in 1951.
Lynwood D. Tart came to Northern Virginia in 1951 with a truck and $ 500 worth of lumber from his family’s sawmill in North Carolina. He started his lumber company on Rt. 1 in Arlington, Virginia and spent his life supplying builders, contractors and homeowners the materials to build thousands of homes and commercial businesses in the Washington Metropoliatian Area. In 1971 he purchased land in Sterling, Virginia and opened a second location to serve the growth in the area. In 1985 he consolidated all of Tart Lumber Company to the Sterling location where it is today. He expanded to add Tart Custom Millwork in the 80’s and later a kitchen and bath showroom which has been relocated to the current Tart Design Center Showroom. Mr. Tart passed away in 2008, but his daughter and son-in-law continue the family tradition of providing quality materials and service to area remodeling and construction jobs.
