Wind Mountain RV Park and Lodge

My wife and I traveled to the Wind River resort area this last weekend to Salmon fish. The little town of Home Valley is about 6 miles east of Stevenson WA on the Columbia River. It is a very beautiful area and if you get the chance to visit, I would highly recommend it. This review is however about the Wind Mountain Resort that we stayed at for 3 days. I was given the name of Astrid and Rolf who are the owners here to call by my fishing guide. This was supposed to be a resort with a café and a mini-​mart but they have closed that portion and made a larger handicap accessible room which is very chopped up and not well thought out. When I called, I was told that they only had 1 room available for that weekend and that it was the most expensive room of $ 139. They have a total of 4 rooms and the room I was told I was in was the newest room that had been converted from the café they once had in there. I said ok and booked for 3 days. When we arrived, we found that that room was not available and the only room was one with 3 single twin beds. She also thought that I had booked for 3 men to be in the room. The room was very tiny and not appealing. However another room, room 2 was free for one night which was nice and spacious and she put us in that room. I was charged the lower rate of $ 79 a night but was told that we would have to move the next day. We fished the morning and returned at noon when I asked if we would still have to move and she said yes. My wife and I moved all our gear over to the tiny room and then went afternoon fishing. When we returned in the evening, she said that room 4 was now available as the people their left early because of the wind conditions and said we could move to that room. Again we moved all our gear downstairs now to the new room. After we had settled into the new room, Astrid then says, oh, and it’s $ 60 more a night. I felt like we were tricked into this room. When I said we would move back, then she said she felt bad for screwing up the reservation and making us move and would only charge us for 1 night. We were very tired and hungry and had dinner plans so just paid it but it felt very wrong. Once we went to bed and turned off the lights, the first thing that we noticed was the bright exit sign from the café which is above the door that cannot be turned off. Unless you like a beacon in your room that says exit, don’t stay in this room. The heating is very difficult to adjust; there is a separate bedroom where the heat pump out that is separate from the thermostat. There are 2 thermostats and you don’t know which one controls what in the room. This is a resort with an RV Park and 4 hotel rooms. They are over-​priced for the area and the value you get. There is no ice machine and they are part owners of the Home Valley Store a block down the road which is very high priced and limited selection. The town of Stevenson is only 5 miles away, there is a Rodeway Inn that my brother-​in-​law stayed at which was very reasonable and he said was a good room. There are no restaurants near Wind Mountain Resort so you have to drive to Stevenson or Hood River anyways, so I would suggest staying in Stevenson. When I sent her an email about this she responded that some people are so full of anger and disappointment, yet only after I tried to resolve this with her. The resort is very disorganized, the big room downstairs is mistaken for the café and store which is gone and the they have very poor reservation skills. Give your money to some other local business who will appreciate the dollars! By the way the Big River Grill is great food! Stay away from the Mexican place. See my separate reviews on those.
