History

Established in 2011.

I am a third generation tile setter. I was raised in sand, as a kid I played with cut tile and create design, as time went I began the apprenticeship as a helper. At the age of 15, Walmarts was popping up all over the Bay Area. My family had won the bid so that whole summer I was helping to install floors, walls and outside deco in all the walmarts from Gilroy to Livermore. At the age of 23 I started work with Manada Tile out of San Jose California, where I worked in the union for ten years. I moved to Stockton California in2005 and went out on a venture to open my own tile store, Shu Tile. I had open a store in a time in history that America was about to experience one of it hardest economic crashes in history. The doors closed one year after open. Work slow we just hung in there just like rest of us Americans. I believe a good job will lead to more jobs. Now we are regaining ground and moving forward. Toby did an excellent job on our bathroom remodel. He has a plumber and an assistant to help him out but he does most of the work himself and is even willing to work Sat & Sun to get the job done on time. I like how he floats the shower walls, pan and curb with mortar ½″ thick. Also, he pays attention to minor details such as sloping the seat and soap niche so water doesn’t collect there and does bullnose fabrication to round off the edges of our natural stone tile.

I wanted to change the carpet in my bathroom to tile, but I did not know anyone that did tile work and my husband did not want to tackle the project when I showed him the hexagonal tile I wanted. I checked Unilocal and TWS had good reviews. I called and left a message. Toby called me back within 2 hours and set a an appointment with me for the next day to give me an estimate on the area I wanted done. Toby showed up on time, was very professional, and is just a very nice person. He gave us a verbal estimate and advised he would email me a detailed estimate later that day, which he did. Toby said he could squeeze us in the following week. His crew showed up right on time and they were also very nice. When I checked the work later, I was concerned about a couple areas as and Toby fixed them with no issue (my issues were with a manufacturer flaw as the tile was not top of the line, not the issue/​lack of ability of the tile setters). 24 hours later, my floor was done, they had cleaned up after themselves, and I am 100% satisfied. Toby is proud of his company and his work and it shows in the product he puts out. I will most definitely hire again.

Toby, owner of TWS, is an honest, hard working contractor. I’ve used his services to remodel two bathrooms and a laundry room for a couple of clients.
His estimates are fair. He works quickly and efficiently. Toby does not ‘nickel and dime’ for minor additional work. I would highly recommend him and will use him again and again.

Toby is the owner and was a pleasure to deal with. I just purchased my home and was weary of hiring someone to do my tile work. I was lucky to find Toby. He was prompt, professional and just an all around good person. He gave me a reasonable estimate and finished before my deadline. The final product was even better than I hoped for. Toby re-​tiled both of my bathrooms and did some work in my kitchen. I recommend TWS to anyone looking for Tile work. I will definitely be calling back when I am ready to do the rest of my kitchen.

My mom had a contractor that did faulty work on the tile in her bathroom and didn’t secure the plumbing fixtures properly. My mom found TWS on Unilocal and decided to give them a call. Toby showed up on time, and assessed the poor quality of the previous job. He was very professional, as he produced a contract outlining the scope of work to be done, and did it in a very timely manner. He showed up on time and corrected the faulty work, which had taken the previous contractor three months, and finished it in six hours. We were so impressed with the finished product. It looked beautiful and the quality of the job was excellent. I would definitely recommend TWS (tile with style) for any job.

Toby did a complicated shower and bathroom floor for us and did an outstanding job. He and his assistant laid down paper each day along the floors and tarp over the carpeted stairs to keep everything clean.
He did a very professional job at a reasonable price and it all worked great. We live in San Jose, but the travel time for Toby was never an issue. I would recommend TWS without hesitation.

DO NOT HIRE! Overpriced for mediocre work. Recently had my bathroom combination tub and shower re-​tiled and was EXTREMELY disappointed. This was a straight forward job, replace former tiles with plain white subway tile, no design, nothing fancy. To ensure we were up to code, we also asked to replace the stucco, backboard, etc. Although he is licensed and bonded, it does not mean the you won’t get sub par craftsmanship. The tile was not flush and level, edges are not aligned and noticeably ovisable. Also he deterred from the actual perimeter of where the tile should end and went beyond. Who tiles all the way to the door frame? Who goes beyond the end of the tub to tile to the shower bar? He BOLD FACED LIED about his reason. Who doesn’t round off the edges? Who doesn’t caulk around the tub? Who leaves grout smeared on the side of the tube because you think we can’t see it as it’s white on white? Who takes off the bathroom door off and doesn’t put it back? Who takes down the existing shower door and doesn’t replace it? Who provided a quote on square footage and then doesn’t adjust the quote when the square footage is less? Who leaves visible marks on the painted walls and dust all over the place? Now we have to hire another contractor to redo this and with a permit this time. Yes, found out after the fact, this is a requirement for what he did. Thanks alot!
