We stayed at Golden Eagle along with three other families for a winter break trip to Stowe. There are a wide variety of rooms and room types which worked out very well. The hotel is in the process of renovating and upgrading. We were originally in an older room and the heat wasn’t working. They quickly changed us out into a room that was closer to the center of the resort, closer to our friends, and an updated room. From a bit of bad luck we got a very good result.
The restaurant onsite was OK for breakfast. The omelettes almost gave the appearance of being pre-​made, but the pancakes, waffles, and bacon were all solid. We didn’t find it appealing enough to go both mornings but it was fine the morning we did.
The workout room didn’t have much beyond treadmills and ellipticals. Very little weight equipment. The kids enjoyed the pool but the hot tub was a little sketchy — heavy chemical smell day 1 and a door that entered the area from outside that led to a muddy tub deck.
The location was great — Doc Ponds and the Bench basically just across the street for beer snobs, McCarthy’s a breakfast upgrade, just west of town center and just east of the mountain. Hiking trails on site. Staff was friendly and helpful. If they keep up the momentum of the renovations, I could see this moving toward four stars for a family getaway.

Vacationed in Vermont this past weekend and stayed here. Not too bad, cute little hotel. Although our room could have been updated. Bathroom door wouldn’t stay closed. Our soap bottle was empty upon arriving. Little things like that can make a difference.
On the bright side, had a great rec room for when it rained; pool table, ping pong, arcade games.

Like really?! I went online and places reservations traveled couple of hours for a nice weekend (only stayed for one night at the end. Was so horrible) to get to this 1950 country like bungalows. Really this is a 3 star Hotel. Worst place ever! Don’t believe what u c in pictures they just appear nicer. The rooms have an old smell to it. U have mold in some places. Real ugly.

I was camping in the area and only came here for the Colonial Café for a nice hot breakfast. The meals were a little pricey for breakfast (around $ 10 a person) but compared to other restaurants in the area ($ 12-​$ 14 a person) they were relatively priced. The food was delicious and they served just enough! I had the Vermont omelet with fresh Vermont cheese and it was to die for!!! The bacon is also cooked to perfection and their food is 100% fresh. Came here two days in a row and would definitely come back if we go camping again!

We stayed here for a night – and it was fine. The person who greeted us at the desk was not especially friendly or welcoming. The room was fine and the bed was comfortable. We did pick a room with a huge bathtub which is something we were looking for. Not great water pressure for showers. They do have a big playground. There was a small deck out our back door. If the weather wasn’t freezing, it would’ve been lovely to sit out there.
FYI: we did find better prices on the Golden Eagle website than Travelocity/​Expedia…

Stayed here for a few days. Hotel itself was nice and comfy. Nice rec rooms and free wifi. However, the service was a little disappointing.
When we checked in to our room, there were left over eggs on the shelf from previous guests. Bathroom soap bottle was empty and was not refilled. Coffee maker was not cleaned and coffee/​cups were not replenished. These happened throughout our entire stay. Wish they can do a better job training house keeping staffs.

The outside of our room looks like that camping place the Griswold’s checked into in Vacation. Our toilet was plugged up. I called for service at 11 pm and got voicemail telling me to call the mgr, who did show up 15 mins or so later but couldn’t really fix it.
The room WAS clean but overpriced for the accommodations. The bed was comfortable

Clean, nice place. Reasonably priced. Has a retro American Motor Lodge feel to it. Very comfy and pleasant place. Great breakfast place too. Nice people.

To begin with, the staff here was wonderful. The front desk was very accommodating and friendly. Beyond that, I was terribly disappointed with the conditions of the room and the grounds maintenance crew noise level.
For $ 120/​night, even in the off-​season, I was just expecting higher quality. The lobby area is quaint and homey and kept up nicely. I was given a room in the same building, just a few doors down. This particular building was more motor-​lodge than resort hotel, in my opinion. The rooms need desperate updating… twenty years ago would have been ideal. The smell was musty as if the room hadn’t been used in months or even aired out by the housekeeping staff. The wallpaper was indicative of a country house, however the hole in the wall cheapened it even more. The ceiling was covered in colored markings that could have easily been cleaned off if the staff could have bothered.
Upon inspecting the bathroom, the first thing noticed was the dark brown staining in the sink, the uncleaned toilet, and worst of all, the brown ring around the entire whirlpool tub… and the hairs found clinging to the sides of the tub as well. Honestly, the last thing I planned on doing on my getaway was scrubbing the dirt off of a tub before being able to use it.
I opened the back door of the room to get some air and for the remainder of the day, I was forced to hear the grounds crew riding around on their cart as they drove past my room again and again. Soon after, a large trailer was dropped off outside of my room, practically in the middle of the parking lot. This truly ruined the view and aesthetic nature of the entire resort.
Based on the upkeep and cleanliness of the room, I didn’t bother to check out the spa or indoor pool, so I can’t comment on the condition of those.
The king-​sized bed was firm, but not entirely uncomfortable.
The walls? Paper thin. When new people arrived, they could be distinctly heard in their rooms.
The wifi? Spotty at best. When more visitors arrived, it practically faded to nothing.
The TV? Signal would waver in and out all night long.
All in all, I was highly disappointed in the quality and conditions based on the price the resort was charging. Unless they invest in improving the room conditions, I highly doubt I’ll stay at the Golden Eagle in the future.

Lets be honest — this place is cheap. For the price I suppose it is close to what I would expect but these reviews here are a bit misleading.
Pros:
Price — for 280 I got a room for a night, double occupancy, with two Stowe lift tickets included. Assuming 100/​ticket that means the room only cost us 80 bucks. That’s a real good deal for the area.
Location — On the road from Stowe village to the mtn. Lots of good things in a short driving and even walking distance.
Service: the guy at the front desk was informative and helpful. The following morning we had no problem getting our included lift tickets quickly right at 7am.
Cons:
Room — very old furniture and bedding. Nothing was dirty or malfunctional so not horrible.
Bathroom — real bad — very poor shower pressure and towels/​tissues like sandpaper. The included soap/​shampoo was very watery.
The «spa» — overall really crappy
The pool was colder than you would want for a ski vacation. I still took a swim but it needs to be a good 5 degrees warmer (mid 80s as opposed to high 70s).
The hot tub was not very appealing — strong chemical smell and cloudy water.
The locker room and facilities in general were all very dirty. I know it is difficult to keep it clean because everyone walks over from their rooms in their boots and tracks in ice and mud, but the layout of the spa is awful — you enter by walking right past the hottub with your dirty shoes so the floor is all muddy right away.
Bottom line is that it is old and cheap, but I would borderline give it 3 stars based on the price and the lack of any major issues. I felt I had to review it a bit because there are a lot of good reviews but the reality is that it is fine, but don’t expect anything nice at all.

A fine place to stay on a week-​end getaway. The rooms were generally cozy and clean. There is a «spa» building with a pool, hot tub, workout area, and massage services available. I decided to have a massage and had a therapist named Holly who was very good.
Breakfast was included in our room rate. The little restaurant was a bit of a hike from our room, but truthfully, it’s nice to get out and stretch your legs in the morning. Food was excellent.
What left more to be desired? The vending machine had a limited selection, the brands represented on the buttons did not reflect what was inside, and the machine ran out of bottled water. The resort is a little bit off of the beaten path, so you need to take the local bus to get into town to visit the shops, liquor store, or get out to the mountain. It seems that management is changing (or recently changed) and I got a sense that the staff are not happy about some of the changes.
Message to the new owners: you need to do a better job of communicating changes, how and why, and praise your staff for the work they’re doing. They’re working really hard, and change is difficult for most. Don’t just lay down new laws, demonstrate excellence yourselves to encourage staff to follow suit.

Hôtel choisi il y a quelques semaines quand on préparait notre weekend dans le Vermont. On y a passé deux nuits, on a pu profiter des infrastructures comme le terrain de tennis, la salle de sport et la piscine intérieure, il y a aussi une piscine extérieure mais il pleuvait au moment où on voulait se baigner.
On a eu une chambre très spacieuse (#119) avec vue sur le petit lac, au calme et aucun vis à vis avec les chambres voisines.
Le personnel est très accueillant et disponible. Je garde un bon souvenir de cet hôtel et j’espère pouvoir y retourner lors d’un prochain séjour à Stowe.

The whole resort needs a makeover, including the staff.
The Good
–If you are coming to stay in Stowe, the location is great.
–There is a pool, a sauna, and a jacuzzi.
–If your breakfast is included, it is made to order on weekends.
The Bad
–Worn out décor and furniture.
–The spa areas get so crowded that its almost not worth it.
–The noise levels are unbelievable. Walls are paper thin!
–The fan in our bathroom started making an awful, loud noise half way through our stay.
The Ugly
–The staff mislead us into thinking we were paying a cheaper rate than what we got quoted online. By checkout time, our bill had an extra 30% of fees organized in such a way that you couldn’t even understand what each one was for.
–The wooden sign on their café says its open until 11AM for breakdast. One day, they up and decided to lock up around 10:30AM and stopped serving food without notifying anybody. Our breakfast was included in our rate (we paid extra for it) and when I said they should consider changing their sign all I got was, «I thought it was changed». The wooden sign is engraved with the number 11, who are you trying to kid?

The lobby was lovely and the property was kind of lovely and that’s where the niceness ended for us. We were in a room facing the parking row and found that we could hear everything– very loudly. It was near impossible to control the climate and the room had an awful antiseptic smell (better than being filthy, though). While the water pressure was great there was some obvious wear and tear in the shower. I found the beds to be very uncomfortable, but that’s a matter of preference really. I’m sorry to review the property so poorly when the staff was so pleasant, but we didn’t leave well rested at all.

We recently stayed at Golden Eagle for a night and loved it. The value was unbeatable, Suzanne at the front desk allowed us to check in early, we received a free upgrade to the Matterhorn Suite, which was clean and updated, and we had a wood burning fireplace. This is a resort that is focused on things to do and the access to trails, shuffleboard game, and ability to easily walk into town were exactly what we needed. We will definitely return.

I love this place. I have been coming here for about 4 years now and it’s great. The owners/​workers are super polite, funny and fun. They always have cool suggestions for things to do and see. I have never, ever been disappointed.
They have a great «garden» area, sauna, pool and spa. It’s close to EVERYTHING. I have probably stayed here about 30 times since I moved to the East Coast and every single time has been great. I have brought people from all over the country for both fun and work and everyone loves it.
Plus, the great thing is, if you are a business traveler, they have great business rates if you are doing business in Stowe.

Beautiful location, delightful staff, nicely maintained and the restaurant food was delicious!

Great location — shops, restaurants and town center are close by.
Resort staff is friendly and main lodge is nicely appointed.
Rooms are a bit tired — Definite 1980s motel feel. Could use a re-​furb. On the other hand, one of the quietest hotels I’ve enjoyed in a long time.

The Golden Eagle Resort is a great spot for a few nights in Stowe.
Great location and close to all types of restaurants and shops and Shaw’s. The road leads right up to the mountain as well.
Park right in front of your room and its like walking into your house. I like that its not part of a long hallways like hotels. This resort feels like home away from home.
Room is a good size. The closet is in the bathroom area, there is a door that separate its from the toilet and shower. The room where the toilet and shower is has a heat lamp that is awesome! I used it when I was showering. Loved the glow of the red light.
They have dispensers on the wall where your soap and shampoo is. I did not like the shampoo, they provided. It didn’t lather well and left my hair feeling greasy. Luckily, I always have travel size ones in my toiletry bag. But I do like how this saves the resorts from having to dish out tiny bottles of shampoos for guests.
There is also hand soap and lotion dispensers as well.
Towels that needed to be replaced were asked to be left in the tub, I left 2 towels hanging up on the door hook to be reused but they got replaced anyway.
TV has all the channels you need to keep up with current events. You can also rents dvd players for $ 6/​night and they have dvds you can take out for free.
Beds were comfy.
The spa is in the building right across the driveway and it offers massages, indoor pool, sauna, hot tub, game room, and library room.
The spa offers free lockers and towels for you to use.
The spa is very relaxing and on this particular day, it was nice being in the hot tub watching the snow fall outside.
The game room has a ping pong table, pool, sir hockey, foosball table, and other arcade games. All are coin operated except the ping pong table and foosball table. But ask if they are in working order since we were told, the games were eating up peoples monies.
The library area has a tv and many books for you to borrow on the honor system.
From 3pm — 6pm, the lobby area offers cookie and tea.
Overall, a really nice place to stay, great trails around and places to eat. You almost don’t need to use you car!

Ok, so my friend and I got a really, really cheap room here. For what we paid, we were pleased with what we got. Our room was finely furnished. It did smell a bit like stale air, but opening the back door helped that. The view from our back patio was gorgeous! We were looking right into a pond.
The people in the front office were super helpful and the coffee and cookies selection in the lobby were quite nice.
This place has internet in the lobby and it wasn’t too long of a wait for us to use the computer.
If you’re just looking for a place to stay, I’d totally recommend this place. It was perfect for a night away in Vermont. :-)
