Burbank Checker Cab

Called a day early to reserve a cab to the airport. The next day, cab doesn’t show up. I call to ask when the cab would be at my house and am told 25 minutes. Would be a total of 35 minutes late. Way to go! I cancelled my ride.

I have become just as a accustomed as anyone else to using rideshare apps, but, I have been disappointed time and time and time and time and time again.
I’ve decided to go back to taxis.
I downloaded their app, it’s called «curb» and I’ve used it twice in the past week,…each time they were there very quickly, they picked me up in new Prius cabs, the rate was comparable to über and lyft and the cabs were clean and the drivers were courteous… done with über, back to taxi.
On the second trip, I was talking with the driver and asking him about business and why he thinks I should take taxis instead and he told me the three biggest reasons were because they are insured for their passengers whereas the rideshare companies are not. They also do drug testing both annually and randomized for all of their drivers whereas über and lyft do not do that at all, and, their companies conduct background checks through the Department of Justice, whereas über and lyft only require a drivers license, (which you can buy in downtown LA), and many of their drivers have criminal histories and they just slip through the cracks.
Consider me unsold.

Cab driver overcharged, threw the bags in the street and yelled at me for asking what the extra charge was… Don’t get in Burbank Checker Cab #713 — Worst experience I’ve every had and I take cabs to the airport several times a month. I am an adult, mature and polite woman and have never had a problem with a cabby, but this driver was angry before we even took off then became aggressive and abusive — he complained that he had been waiting 5 hours at the airport for the fare and was pouting because I wasn’t going very far. I paid 14.95 for the fare — gave him a 20% tip even though he was sullen and when I saw an additional charge asked him to tell me what it was. He was so nasty that I was totally taken aback and asked him why he was yelling at me. He asked sarcastically if I’d ever taken a cab before and yelled at me, then got out and threw my bags on the street. Turns out he did over charge me with an extra fee, so that is most likely why he got mad… the creep had been caught! By the time he got finished abusing me, I was furious and I don’t like feeling like that. I’ll stick to my other company from now on and if I ever see this madman from Checker Cab #713 in line at the airport in Burbank again, I’ll make sure I don’t get in his cab.

Pro-​tip: don’t rely on these guys if you need to get somewhere at a specific time.
I had a 6am flight out of LAX and figured I’d save some parking money by taking a cab to the flyaway shuttle. I called the company the day before and asked if they could pick me up at 4am; the operator was very polite and helpful and said the cab would be there. So initially, everything seemed great. I was impressed, actually.
So I get up at 4am and go stand out on the sidewalk. 4:05 and no cab. I call the company and the operator tells me the driver already listed the job as «completed.» She asks me if I got a phone call from the cabbie; absolutely not. So she says she’ll send him back and he should be there 5 – 10 minutes later.
So at 4:20 I’m getting nervous. I call again and this time the operator tells me in an annoyed tone to «just wait 5 – 10 minutes.» I tell her 5 minutes is too late, I needed the cab at 4am, and to tell him to forget it. I then hop in my car and race out to the flyaway station, caught a later shuttle, and literally ran to my flight as they were calling my name on the intercom. The plane took off 10 minutes after I got to my seat.
The ultimate moral here is to always give yourself enough time to account for the unexpected, but when a company tells you your car will be there on time, it should be there. Coming that close to missing my flight was a sobering experience: I can assure you I will never call these guys again unless I’m just looking for a ride home from the bar.

On time. Very courteous driver. Super clean cab. Couldn’t have asked for more.

Called at 10:45am and told them I needed a cab at 11:15am.
Walked outside at 11:14 and the cabby was pulling up.
Jumped in and had a nice and quiet trip to the Burbank Airport. The cab was clean and the driver was pleasant.
Not sure if this is the exception (from the reviews it sounds like it), but I’d recommend these guys if you get the same driver as we did.

I had out-​of-​state friends visiting and had to work while they were here. They wanted to go to the WB and neither can drive a stick, so borrowing my car was not an option. We called Checker Cab the night before for a morning pickup; one of the girls saw one of their cabs dropping off someone nearby and remembered the number. They ended up getting George, and loved him. I guess he picked them up right on time from the apartment and came right back when their tour was due to be over. They liked him so well we decided to call him the next morning to take us to the Burbank airport since between the three of us we had too much luggage and it would cost the same divided amongst ourselves as it would to leave it in Lot C. We asked him if he’d pick me up on the way home (friends were going to fly home from our destination) and he handed me a card. When I called Sunday, however, he told me he doesn’t pick up from the airport and for me to get my own cab. I took his handing me the card and nodding his head to mean he would pick me up; fortunately I called him from Oakland, and it was enough notice that a friend could come get me. But I wish I had known.

Don’t use this company!
I called a cab at 2:55 yesterday and they said they would be here in 5 — 15 minutes. When they didn’t show I called again — they said «a cab will be there in 5 — 15 minutes!» From then! With my bags packed ready to head to the Burbank airport I was very upset knowing that if it took another 15 minutes I would miss the cut off time to catch my flight…
15 minutes later the cab arrived… I missed my flight.
It gets worse. When I called to have them take care of the change fee ($ 75) for my plane ticket the manager and I fought for some time. His basic point was that I said I lived in Burbank and his system says I live in Los Angeles. Funny, all my mail, my lease and documentation says Burbank. Also, I said I lived in Burbank the second time I called too and they figured it out that time. And you’d think they’d look up an address when you give it to them.
What if I was a visor and I WAS wrong and I said I lived at such and such an address in Timbucktoo, would they have just said, «Yes M’am the cab is on its way» and not sent one and then blamed the customer for that after as well?!
Point is they are lying to me and shirking responsibility for their error.
The funniest part is that all those times I was on hold between dispatchers, supervisor and mangers I had to listen to a message where they claim to be the fastest and most efficient cab company in Los Angeles. HA! Too bad they are in the business of driving not comedy.
