I used Acme Movers to move from a house in Sunnyvale to one in Oakdale.
Michael was very through and complete with his estimate. The total was a bit more then the estimate, but I was expecting that. He was well under what I thought I would pay. I did get a bid from another company which started out lower, but only included 3 wardrobes (I used 5 or 6) and I was going to have to pay more for the 2^nd truck.
The young men showed up to load the truck (everything was alread packed). The first thing they did was introduced themselves and shook my hand. Later 2 more came and did the same. They were SO polite. I showed them where everything was and they went to work. There was a LOT of stuff. They were quick, efficient and very careful with my belongings.
When they left, they asked me what time I wanted to get on the road the next day so I could meet them at the new place. No problem with 7:00 AM.
At the new house they asked where I wanted everything. Each box… so far, I have not had to move one box from the room where they left it. The guy who unpacked the wardrobes even asked if I want the clothes arranged in any particular way.
Everything arrived in great condition. I would recommend Acme to EVERYONE who is moving.

ACME Movers just moved my household furnishings from Sunnyvale to Reno. They charged a very reasonable rate. They give you quote based on what they think the move will take, let you know what costs are variable, tell you the hourly rate for their team as well as extra charges for blankets and other things that you will need to store your items for a long period of time… and then come in close to that price.
From Michael coming in and discussing the move with us, to Paulette, Ann and Marian coming in to pack our very precious belongs like they were theirs, to Everette and his crew of young, friendly guys who looked you in the eye when you conversed to them, and picked stuff up so my back could be saved… what a crew, every single one of them. They call themselves a family business, and they treat you like family too. I highly recommend ACME Movers, they really made our move sooooo much easier. Choose them, and let them do what they do best, and your stress from your move will be greatly reduced.

The best experience ever with movers, Everett and his crew are fast efficient and professional, If I had a business and needed a team leader, Everett is the kind of guy I would try to steal away. Also I was quoted for a two person crew by Paulette, they sent three and didn’t charge for the third. These are my guys whenever I need any help moving or when anyone I know is moving. I would give them 10 stars if Unilocal would allow it. So refreshing when quality customer service is falling by the way side, especially here in the Silicone Valley.

My wife and I give the «crew» (Everett, Adrian, Brandon & Francis) 5-​stars … THEY are absolutely the BEST movers we’d ever experienced. We had spent 3 months packing up all of our belongings to move from Cupertino to Folsom. Our realtor recommended Acme and we called and had Michael come out for an estimate. Our initial bid was @$ 2000 which really sounded too good to be true, but we contracted with Acme to do the job. About a week or 10 days out for the move, I attempted numerous times to email, phone and text Michael to either stop by or call. We needed a lot of wardrobes, and to give Michael credit, he DID stop by and provided at least 15 of them for our use to facilitate the move. A day before our move, he calls and says there was a «calculation» error and he would send a new invoice. The morning of our move the price had jumped $ 500! We had no choice but to accept it and it certainly looked like he’d underbid simply to get the job. We had never heard of an «85 box» limit, but heard about it the day of our move. The contract was for 4 guys at $ 170/​hr, but on moving day only got 3. We got an «added» charge of $ 55/​hr for the 4^th guy on the 2^nd day, and Michael tried to get $ 180/​hr when it was quoted at $ 170. The contract provided for 14 hrs, but failed to «include» the six hours of travel time (although we were informed about a $ 285 fuel surcharge & agreed to it). We thought our bill would be $ 2500 for the move, $ 285 for fuel and another $ 275 for the «4^th guy» we supposedly had been included in our original sales pitch. That adds up to $ 3060. When the crew was done unloading, Michael called in the «new» bill of over $ 4300 and expected us to pay it! We offered the $ 3000, and Michael said «ok would $ 3400 make you happy?» Uh, NO, it doesn’t! Acme Small Movers (aka Michael) needs to provide a more consistent estimate. he’s been in this business a LONG time, AND (if he wanted) he could provide a more accurate estimate so people (i.e. customers) like us wouldn’t feel raped! He «lowballs» his estimates to sound so reasonable to get the business, and then does the «I gotcha» game of charging for this and for that until your bill is doubled. He estimated 14 hrs and KNEW we were moving to Folsom (3 hrs drive each way — 6 hrs total). Why not just SAY «ok the loading and unloading is 14 hrs with 6 hrs travel time». So, THIS way customers can do the math (20 hrs x $ 170/​hr). Let me finish off by saying the ONLY reason Acme Small Movers got 5 stars from us were the guys — they were absolutely phenomenal. We just wish their boss didn’t come off like such a schister. For him, I wouldn’t even give ONE star. Never again.

Rude, unprofessional and was overcharged

Michael quoted me $ 1075. At the end of my move I was charged $ 1444.
Michael said I would be paying for two movers over one day.
At the last minute Michael changed my move two two days instead of one day and utilized three movers instead if two.
I was charged $ 170 per hour instead of $ 110 (the original quote). When I confronted Michael with this he became very rude and refused to refund me any money.
On my move day I was surprised that two kids were the actual movers and Michael was nowhere to be found.
One of his workers had a family member who lives in my new town. Without asking me he invited his brother into my new home. As a single female I was surprised and found this very unprofessional.
Do not recommend!

I don’t give 5 star reviews lightly, but these guys deserved it. I had to move my mom’s stuff from her small apartment to my house about 5 miles away in San Jose. They showed up on time and were ready to go. They worked efficiently and effectively together to bring all the stuff out of the room down to their moving van and then over to my house where it was unloaded into the garage. There were zero issues and the price was very fair for the work done.

They packed (expertly) and moved me without a hitch. I didn’t cry. I didn’t shout. I didn’t panic. I didn’t lose anything. I handed them keys and they moved me at a very reasonable price. Sorry I’m not writing a long review, but when things go so right, there’s not much to say. Really a top notch group of people.

Flawless, Fast, and Friendly!
These guys were so good that it spurred me to write my first rating on Unilocal.I was moving from an apartment in Sunnyvale to a house in San Jose. Called a few weeks ago, and Paulette was really nice on the phone. She quoted me at $ 110 per hour, with a minimum of 2 hours on Monday (¹⁰⁄₁₃), which is a fairly decent quote! She also sent me an email confirming my move, which was great as well. The night before my move, I sent them a map of the apartment complex to show them where they should park. This was a very small move for me; a queen sized tempurpedic bed, night stand, desk, TV stand, and a 40+ LCD TV.
My appointment was for 9am, and they showed up probably 10 minutes early which was great. They gave me a call when I arrived, and I came down with them to show them the path through the complex on how to get to my apartment. Everett (supervisor) was very nice and he’s definitely a pro at this. Eric and Bernard were also there to assist, and they were great as well. I took them up to the apartment where I had already prepped everything for them (stripped the bed, taped down the drawers, cleared a path in the apartment, etc.), and they came in and started working right away. They had all the proper equipment (hand truck, moving dollies, moving blankets, etc.), and Everett was fantastic at on how to maneuver and handle all the pieces due to his 13 years of experience. They loaded up the truck, and properly strapped everything down and covered everything in moving blankets. Again, with any move it always helps to prep your stuff and find the easiest path in order for the movers to get your stuff to the truck (properly sized elevator, through the garage, etc.).
They arrived at my house and went to work. I also had sent an email Paulette a couple days before (last minute add on my part) asking if they could help remove 3 couches and help me donate it at the local Savers, which they were more than happy to do. They unloaded my stuff with laser precision (no damage), and we drove down to the local Savers to donate them.
We finished everything in UNDER TWO HOURS, even including my last minute add for the couches. These guys were fast, very down to earth, and definitely someone I’d recommend 100%. We’re all trying to make a living here, and so I tipped them as well since they were so good. 100% satisfied with their work, Everett is a fantastic supervisor, and can’t say enough great stuff about them! Thank again fellas!

Michael and Paulette are fantastic and they worked very hard to make my move from San Jose to Amador County as easy as possible. Nothing was broken — the main criterion of success! — except one bottle of Martinelli’s Apple Cider, which I don’t care for anyway. Everyone was friendly and patient. The final price was very fair. I would absolutely recommend them for local small moves (as per their name!).
But…this move was waaaay beyond their comfort level. They should have turned down the job. Despite the fact that Michael came by to estimate the move, and knew that three appliances would also be going, he dramatically underestimated the scope of the job. Also they don’t have an 18-​wheeler or whatever that large moving truck is. If they’re serious about building the business they should buy or at least get access to one. They had to use two trucks, one of which had some other business’s name on it, and do a lot of extra schlepping between their Sunnyvale location and my south San Jose house.
In their defense, I did my own packing, except for lamps and art. So the boxes were lots of sizes and shapes. But I’ve done that before and never heard about it. Re the art, I’ve moved more times than I’d like to count, and other movers have used specially made boxes for art, which they unpacked immediately and then took the boxes away. Michael and Paulette set up my catering table and cut up big Home Depot boxes in which to pack it. The art made the trip ok. But it just seemed kinda, dare I say… unprofessional?
This move happened five months ago. Maybe things are different now. I hope so. These are really nice people trying their damndest to do a great job. But unless the issues I mentioned have been resolved, I wouldn’t recommend them for a bigger move or a distance move.

There are only five stars here, but Acme movers get five stars ten times over!
My move was hard for me because I was going through my parents house, not only moving things, but also having to discard many items that held special memories. It was very hard for me to let things go. Michael helped me through this process. I couldn’t have asked for a more compassionate professional. Michael, and his team were beyond wonderful. They were on time, polite, fast, and efficient. Everything was carefully taken to my storage unit, and placed in a thoughtful manner so I could easily retrieve items. I give a big heartfelt thanks to Michael, Paulette, and their team. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience with this move. If you need movers… Look no further!

My move was super-​simple — the Canadian insisted on moving the smaller items himself, so Acme only moved appliances and furniture for us – but the experience with Acme was great. The guys were on time, professional, pleasant, and very careful with our things. The front office folks were good communicators. At times in the past with other moving companies I’ve felt like the guys who showed up were trying to hustle me for additional money; there was none of that with these guys.

I was very happy with Acme. When I called to book the job, Paulette was friendly and she followed up with an email confirmation. On the day of the move, the movers arrived promptly and they finished the job in two hours. It was a simple move (into a small apartment) but what they did quickly and efficiently would have taken me all day. I would definitely hire them again.

I did not actually use Acme movers, because I needed storage as well as moving (it’s complicated). But I was so impressed with Michael that I would definitely have used them if not for my odd requirements. There quote was a little under other companies’ too. When I told him I wouldn’t be using them after all, he was so kind and professional, and still offered me some house hunting help and advice, I was just floored. I really like them. Recommended!

I am so pleased and impressed with the service and professionalism of Acme Small Scale Movers! We had a small, local move that required a pick up at one place and delivery of items to 2 separate stops.
Michael met me the day before and packed some of the more valuable items that were going into storage and he was on time and did a great job. This morning, the 2 movers arrived on time (a few minutes early in fact) and had the best attitude! Very considerate and didn’t waste a minute of time.
The price I was quoted was right in line with the final bill and the experience was stress free and wonderful!
I would recommend them to anyone who needs packing and moving and wants a company that is easy to work with who understands that my things matter.

I had a wonderful experience with Acme! I originally scheduled my small local move with another outfit, and called them close to my move date because I didn’t know whether they accepted credit cards. The guy there said I wasn’t on their schedule. When I asked whether they could move me, it turned out they had booked a large, lucrative move over my slot. If I hadn’t called, I wouldn’t have found out until they failed to show up!
I left voicemails with Acme and some other places based on Unilocal reviews, and Michael at Acme got back to me *so* quickly. They scoped the size of my move, and scheduled me that week. At first we agreed on 2 movers for 2 – 3 hours, but in order to stay on schedule, they later asked me to take 3 movers at $ 170/​hr. I wasn’t sure I needed 3 movers for their 2-​hour minimum, but I felt I owed them one.
I was lucky to be their 1^st move the of morning, because the 3 guys showed up exactly on time. (Timing can slip later in the day, if earlier moves turn out significantly larger than move-​ees describe.) They were pretty young, with great attitudes and the guy in charge (Joshua?) was a good leader and extremely task-​oriented. They were very careful with my things, and gracious with setup and rearranging and placing furniture just so at the new place. :)
Just a note that Acme’s movers don’t pack for you, though Acme can send someone in advance to pack at $ 45/​hour. Also, in addition to their minimum, they charge for the trip back to their office (but not the trip out to you). They accept personal checks and cash only, not credit cards. All perfectly reasonable, but helpful in setting expectations.
All in all, I am very happy with Acme, and would confidently recommend them for anyone with a small move (not a large houseful of stuff!) in the South Bay!
P. S. — They were right to provide me 3 movers — my move took 2 hrs on the nose, with an additional 0.25 hrs for them to get back. :)

I cannot recommend a BETTER more PROFESSIONAL Moving Compancy than Acme Full Service Movers. They have not only moved me several times, but I have referred them to many clients and they never fail to provide excellent service. Michael & Paulette are great, no stress, no bologne and Frances, Everett Gloria and the rest of their awesome team are careful, kind and caring. The clients I refer to them are «senior citizens» and the Acme Team truly understand and appreciate the sensitivity that is key when helping people through a life changing move!

I called and got pricing but asked for an in home estimate since that is what they offer. I scheduled one for a few days later. The morning of the appointment, Michael called and had to cancel because one of his trucks broke down. I did not mind this because he called. He said he’d call me back that day to reschedule but he never did. About 10 days later I called back to reschedule and ended up talking to Michael phone. He apologized for not getting back to me and we rescheduled for a few days later. He picked the time because I had a lot of availability.
Well that time came and went. He never called saying he couldn’t make it. He just didn’t show. It’s been a full day since that appointment and I haven’t heard from him. I’ve been calling other movers since.
Their prices are also higher than other movers at 110/​hr for 2 guys and 170/​hr for 3 guys.

Michael is fabulous. I unhesitatingly recommend him and trust him and the company.
I did not use Acme for a large move, although I heard that they do that too, but they have helped me with several smaller moves and even with removing unwanted furniture!
