First Auto Service

Brought in my car for an oil change today. They were very friendly and informative. The oil change was done within 30 minutes even though they were busy. Best of all I called previously to make an appointment and no one picked up. I did not leave a message. 5 minutes later I received a call back from them returning my call. How awesome! Really great customer service. I plan to do all my oil changes here from now on.

I can see why this shop has so many good reviews. I have had alot of work done on my previous car so I have dealt with many shops but I think I have finally found my «main» mechanic. I live all the way in San Jose, but I’m in the area at least once a week. I usually get my tires done next door and I figured it would be convenient to get all my work done all at once. Decided to Unilocal this place first and gave it a shot.
At first I was skeptical because I knew I had my light on but I also knew that I needed other things done. I asked the guy who quoted me how much for a full car inspection, he gave me the price, and that was that. Two mins later he tells me about what is triggering the code and started giving me rough estimates on what Im looking at. Okay thats fine, but was that the full car inspection? He said yea. But I kind of nodged him to check my brakes which then he started to visually check around my car and found a leak on my transmission pan. I asked him to give me an estimate and told him I would also need a tune up, so he jotted everything down with a price but didn’t really explain anything. Im a girl of transparency, so it really threw me off, I started to ask him a whole bunch of questions. Wrote down his name on my copy, asked him to give me the code number, and still scheduled an appointment the following week.
The following week comes and this is where I meet the owner Sam and all the doubts I had flew out the window. Not only is he a genuinely nice guy, but his work ethic is extremely professional. He was very transparent in his explanation for cost, what work will be done, and how long it will take. Not once did he try to up sell me into anything that I didn’t need to do with my car, in fact he worked to find ways that were going to be cheaper. It was more of like «heres the problems, lets fix just that. «
Im so happy with how smooth my car feels. The guy who worked on my car was so nice too. He did an amazing job, and although it was alot of work, they got the job done before they closed. I just couldn’t leave without saying thank you. This place is definately worth the drive. Thanks guys!

I’ve gotten a number of things done with different cars with these guys and they’ve been great. They’re definitely honest, they do good work, and when I talk to the owner it doesn’t feel like he’s trying to pull one over on me.
The owner is really nice, very helpful, and they keep you updated with what’s going on with your car. They also make it feel like they actually care about you and your car. Places like this can be so hit or miss but this guys doing it right. I will definitely be back.

I don’t know much about cars or oil changes or service types… I hate having to pick from a laundry list of service types or upgrade options when I just need a simple oil change! Fortunately, they make it quite simple here.
I called for an appointment for an oil change and was told they could squeeze me in on that same day. They asked about my car model and year, and suggested I get synthetic. They quoted me a price of $ 55 (very reasonable), and that was the price I was charged. No hidden costs or ambiguity. I was in and out in ~20 minutes.
Not to mention DT Sunnyvale is right across the street, so you’re not completely stranded while waiting for your car to be serviced!
**Giving it 4 stars for now simply because I haven’t had experience with their other car services, but rest assured I will definitely come back for all my car-​related needs :)

I simply want to come back and thank First Auto Service for their great work. After my hub replacement and trip to Texas which also resulted in a complete re-​route due to a bridge collapse and closure of the I-​10, I made it home safe! I cant express the amount of gratitude that I have for these guys. I have never felt more secure!

100% pleased with my experience here. I have a hard time trusting people with my car, since my dad is a mechanic and always did all of the work on my car until I moved across the country. I’m always worried about people feeding me BS and upselling me when it comes to places like this because I am a young female. The whole process of bringing my car in somewhere is usually stressful, figuring out how long it’ll take, taking time off work, etc.
All of those fears/​that stress went away at this place. I called yesterday for an appointment for oil change for a Saturday. Got one immediately, first thing in the morning on Saturday. Got a call on my way over confirming my appointment for that morning. Dropped my car off, took a nice stroll around the farmers market and got some fresh strawberries, and my car was done in 45 – 50 mins (oil change and tire rotation).
Prices very reasonable, upon paying, I wasn’t upsold for anything — I was told honestly that everything looks good, my tires are still new/​good, brakes good, etc.
Couldn’t have asked for a less stressful /​better experience. I will be coming back for all of my future auto needs.

Perfect 10! Great find. Great prices, super quick service, and friendly service. Got an oil change under 25 min without an appointment! You can get that anywhere even with an appointment. You can’t get perfect Unilocal reviews unless you’re legit. Go hammer! Oh oh oh

Very knowledgable staff and good customer service. They were able to replace my Honda transmission within 3 – 4 days. Sam (the owner) went out of his way to source the part for me at the best price he could find. I will be returning here for all of my auto needs.

The shop owner, Sam, and his staff are all great and friendly people who have a passion for cars. Here’s why you want to come here:
1) Sam’s an honest guy and will always be honest in what needs replacing, what doesn’t, and what may in the near future. He never pressures you to do anything.
2) His prices are very reasonable. Especially when you compare them to all the other garages here fed by car-​clueless 6 figure tech worker salaries.
3) He opens on weekends. Seriously guys. Weekends. In the Bay Area.
He has never turned me down for a job and has always been a great guy to talk to. Respectful & courteous. I will continue to come here whenever I run into problems with my BMW.

Excellent customer service. My brakes were making a scary scraping sound each time I break so I brought it in here on a Friday afternoon. I called around five and they told me to bring it in as soon as possible so that they could get me out quickly. I was driving my way over, about 10 minute drive, when Sam called me. He had me give him the specs of my car so he could order the brakes and have it ready for me when I got there.
They got me set up once I arrived and when I mentioned Unilocal he automatically gave me a Unilocal discount too! I showed up at 5 o’clock an hour before they closed. They got me in and out within 40 minutes, I appreciate the quick service and I will be coming back for sure.

UPDATE:
They would provide me with touch up paint. Uh, cool? I had a similar incident with a tint place with me interior, however, he took full responsibility right away and got it fixed back to exactly how I dropped the car off.

I would do 3.75 if I could lol! I was at 5! Sam is straightforward and honest, hard to find someone like him nowadays. I had my oil changed and regular maintenance on my car this past Saturday. I didn’t have an appointment, but he squeezed me in (which was awesome!). Unfortunately, I noticed today (two days later) a nice a size gouge on my car from where they put the lift to raise her. As expected both of Sam and his employee mentioned, had they put the lift where the gouge is the whole piece would of fallen off etc etc. I expected them to say this. My point is this, it sure as hell didn’t happen from anything else, i would understand his point had I scrapped my front or rear end bumpers and I was blaming them (fair enough), this was on the side of the car under my rear passenger door. A horribly hard place for this to be a routine driving screw up lol, I understand Sam’s point he is going defend his business and employees, respectable. But, don’t tell me that weird things just happen on the road. The spot where it happened is in such a peculiar place for any hazards on the road to cause it. :(Furthermore, they had another car on the lift, and the arms were crossing over where the nice gouge is on my car lol. His employee was more defensive than he was when I mentioned that. Deep down I know he gets where I’m coming from! He’s a coo ass dude and I get where he’s coming from too, but still! lol
I still like First Auto Service, I just wish his employees were a little more careful. This is the second car i brought here, I had great service when dealing directly with Sam. He kept an eye on the first car i brought to him, to make sure his employees were doing what needed to get done properly. I get it, shit happens. But she’s still fairly new and it hurts, even if she wasn’t new it would still hurt! lol
It was a mistake on his employees part, a BIGGER mistake on my part for not doing a walk through of the car when I picked it up on Saturday morning. Lesson learned the hard way! Always no matter who it is, do a quick walk around when picking up your car from anyone! :/​
Will I go back, yes! Will i do a walk through before and after picking up my car, HELL YESSSSS.

I had only been in town a few weeks when the «check engine» light came on in my Suzuki XL7. Based on the Unilocal reviews, I took my car to Sam at First Auto Service. He didn’t disappoint and immediately ran a diagnostic test ($ 40) to determine the problem. He then informed me of the issue with a one of my sensors, told me the price of the part and labor to replace it and, upon my approval, had everything wrapped up in about an hour. They were nice and professional, and I left feeling like the service matched the Unilocal rating.
It’s hard to find a good mechanic when you move to a new town — especially one that you can trust — and it’s nice to know that this place is here!

Every experience has been great. They’ll accommodate my work schedule, and have even dropped me off at work.

This was the best auto repair experience I have ever had. I had some time to kill between meetings and had been putting off a much needed brake repair and transmission flush. I found these guys on Unilocal and called to see if they could fit me in. I was told it wouldn’t be a problem and they could get me back on the road in an hour or two. I dropped off my car, hung out at the coffee shop across the street, and got the call it was ready to go no more than 45 minutes later. Zero sales pressure, super friendly, and lightning fast service. No further issues with the car and all at a very reasonable price.
TL;DR These guys rock! Do not hesitate to trust First Auto with any of your car repair needs.

I received a call from Sam, who was following up on my review to clear up any misunderstandings. He offered me a fair refund and an explanation. I am satisfied because I do not know how many business owners would do this. I can say that Sam and First Auto Service has managed to stay true to their very high Unilocal rating.

I’ve taken my car here for oil changes a few times and have gotten my breaks done as well. Typically their service has been good. However this most recent time, I called in advance to schedule an appointment but they told me I should just walk in when they opened at 9 AM on Saturday. So I brought my car in and they said it would take an hour. Two hours later they hadn’t even gotten it onto the rack to start, even though they originally estimated an hour. I understand that an oil change is not their biggest priority when it comes to fixing cars but I am still a paying customer and it wasn’t very busy when I had dropped it off. If they had been up front about how long it would’ve taken them, I would be much more understanding. I ended up leaving without the oil change and I’m not sure if I will be returning.
Update: I did get a call apologizing later in the day and offering a complimentary oil change. I appreciate the gesture and customer service.

I have a Porsche Cayenne, I get all my auto service done at the dealership because I felt that most other garages would be unreliable. My last encounter with the Porsche Dealership in Stevens Creek left me with a very bad taste in my mouth ironically I bought my Porsche from them. Anyhow, I needed my brakes changed and I decided to go on a limb and call a few shops in the area.
I called a few garages and for some reason I didn’t really trust them. I actually called First Auto Service when they were closed and believe it or not I didn’t leave a message or anything and Sam called me back. He was very patient with me giving me quotes for both the front and rear brakes. Honestly I didn’t know the difference. I decided to drive my car over and get my brakes checked.
He was very patient with my lack of terminology for car parts and told me what I needed to change and why when it came to breaks. I left my car and went to do errands. After I left I got a call from Sam giving me a very thorough run down on the cost and why things needed to be changed. He even gave me the option to wait another 3 months for my back brakes, but I decided to change both since it would save me the hassle of another brake.
I brought my car into the shop in the morning and got it at the end of the day. Something that a Porsche dealership would not be able to do and on top of that you have to wait for an appointment.
Sam’s customer service is amazing! If you have any car problems (as will I) please bring it to Sam’s not only is he easy to communicate with but his prices are awesome.

I waited too long to fix my brakes and needed rotors too and in a hurry because I’m impatient. Sam was awesome, professional, courteous and welcoming. He took my truck, called around for parts, put me at ease and my Chevy Silverado back to me in the time it took me to take a wander through Murphy street. I have to say, location is key when you’re without a vehicle. I didn’t have time make it to target, maybe next time!!! :)

This is basically a perfect, customer-​focused business.
Consider:
1. They took my car, which had suddenly developed unsafe, faulty brakes, in less than one hour, despite being very busy.
2. They gave me a high quality, less expensive parts replacement option through premium after market Bosch parts.
3. They kept me informed throughout the process.
4. They finished on time
5. They did the whole job in less than 3.5 hours from the time I dropped it off.
6. They do good quality work.
What more can you want?

Sam and his shop is absolutely excellent. I’m the kind of person who tends to try an unmentionably large amount of options out when it comes to basically everything in my life. So, when I commit to a particular one, that says a lot. And I can hands-​down say that of all the mechanics I’ve ever been to, my best overall experience has been here.
Sam is honest, genuine, thorough, and very knowledgeable. He has never recommended what wasn’t essential. In fact, I once brought my RAV4 in for an oil change and mentioned that one of my windshield wiper fluid dispensers wasn’t working that well even after another shop tried to unclog it. Sam could’ve replaced it. It wouldn’t have been a lucrative job but it would’ve added labor fees onto my bill for sure. He instead told me it really wasn’t necessary unless I really felt I strongly needed it (which I didn’t). All my interactions with him have been much the same.
His other mechanics do good work and clearly to his standard. All-​in-​all I just can’t say enough good things about Sam and First Auto. Thank you so much for everything!
