Marketplace Dental Group and Orthodontics

I waited yeaaaars to get my wisdom teeth out and I was truly terrified. I finally had enough problems/​infections and decided to have them removed at Marketplace Dental. I was in and out in about 30 minutes flat and had a great experience. Recovery was quick, they made sure I came in for my follow up appt etc and charged me fairly with my delta dental coverage. I felt fine again in four days time.
Since then I have gone back to get my teeth cleaned, they encouraged a fluoride treatment but I explained I couldn’t afford it right then and the topic was dropped, no pressure etc. Granted they didn’t mention there would be an extra charge for that, but hey just ask questions and don’t be embarrassed if you can’t afford it!
I felt like it was worth sharing my positive experiences on here since I was pretty scared to go after reading the reviews but luckily I had nothing to fear. I like how high tech the place is too! Far better than the last place I used to go to.

I am only giving this 2 stars because the actual dentists/​hygienists I have no problem with, they do good work. I also love the fact that they are all electonical. I do take issue with the fact that the front desk does not communicate well with the back of the office. After my last trip of being charged double of my initial quote, I will be shopping for a new dentist. I will not go into further details of previous incidents, but advise you to shop around.

Stay away from dr jason maines he does not have a good attitude and does not care if he is putting you into pain, he gets very annoyed if you asked him to explain anything and while i was getting work done him and his assistant were talking about how much money they going to make off of all the clients very unprofessional and dont think he should have a dental license STAY AWAY…

My daughter went to the orthodontist and dentist here and it has been the most unpleasant experience working with the front desk people and the quality of care has been very disappointing. There is a lot of blaming of the patients and parents going on. In fact, they didn’t even have a record of two cleanings that we had gone to while she had on her braces in their electronic records system and they told us this is the reason she has cavities. When asked if they sent reminders that we hadn’t come in for cleanings (even though I investigated later that we had), they said «We can’t make parents bring their kids in for cleanings. That’s your responsibility» Who talks to their customers this way. I said I didn’t expect them to force us to come, only that most businesses send out reminders if you haven’t scheduled your periodic cleaning. They were not interested in hearing this at all and continued to say «we can’t force parents to bring in ttheir kids for care.» Either they are incredible bad listeners or don’t have the professional experience to talk through a situation.
There is a tremendous amount of staff turn over. We had one filling that we had to get redone since the surface wasn’t smooth and kept getting food stuck in it, causing additional decay We were told by the owner that that dentist who did that filling had left the practice and he would redo it for free. The owner dentist removed the filling. left the room, never to return, and then allowed an assistant to put int the new filling, never coming in to check the completed filling. When checking in for redo of the filling, they told us we owed $ 357 and after I said it was being done for free, they said we’ll just keep this charge here until after the procedure. After leaving, they continued to tell us how much we owed, and looked like they didn’t believe us that we didn’t have to pay for it. Finally we had to bring in the senior dentist/​owner and they agreed that it was a no charge. We were told two of her 3 year old fillings also needed to be removed and root canals/​crowns put on — my daughter is 14 years old. Got a second opinion and have sense left this practice, having both fillings redone without a crown or root canal.
After being told my daughter had to have braces on for 18 months, they took the braces off after 13 months. Within a year after getting the braces removed her left top eye tooth had eased back up in her gums ¹⁄₈ inch and both the right and left top eye teeth had twisted. They continuously blamed us since my daughter admitted to not wearing the retainer EVERY SINGLE night. What kid doesn’t miss a night or two.
When I showed up for a consult to ask if they would consider putting the braces on for free or at least for material costs only, they left me waiting in the waiting room 25 minutes. They offered to put the top braces on again for $!000 and said they would give us clear braces at the wire braces cost as a «discount», and said I was lucky they were offering this since it had been more than a year since taking them off.
You’re getting what you pay for — these «cost cutter» style places like Marketplace take new dentists out of school, pay them little or nothing as the senior dentist told me directly, until they either wash out or get the experience they need to open their own practice. The front desk staff are inexperienced, unprofessional business people who all reaffirm regularly that they are just employees and have no ability to make decisions and only the office manager does. What business’s office manager has decision making power in any business.
Don’t come to this practice!!!

I went into this office because it was the closest place that my insurance would cover. The actual dental work was fine but once it was over with I went to the front desk to set up my payment plan. Their computer worked out a 4 month payment plan based of my initial downpayment. The money was taken directly from my bank account each month. After the first month I started to receive a bill from them in the mail for a much larger amount. I called them and they said it was a mistake on their part and that they would fix the bill and I shouldn’t worry about it. Another month went by and I received another bill from them for the same amount plus a past due notice. I called Marketplace Dental once again. Once again they assured me that it was a mistake and that I should disregard any more bills from them and that they had already taken care of the problem. So I after another two months and my last two payments I received two more bills and the last bill was accompanied with a letter from a collection agency. The letter stated that I owed XXX. XX amount of money to Marketplace Dental Group and that I was 4 months past due. Needless to say I was pretty upset and called them once again. They never fixed the problem, continued to bill me for an amount that didn’t make sense all while withdrawing the agreed amount from my checking account on time every month until it was paid off. Luckily I was able to call the debt collection agency and dispute the charge and prove that it was false and they I had indeed paid them in full. This was truly one of the worse experiences that I have ever had. If you value your credit and money stay far away from this place.

Great experience! The office staff from start to finish were all super friendly and helpful. The dentist was knowledgeable and very thorough. Overall I was pleased. Previous reviews had me a bit worried but my routine dental cleaning went better than expected!

The worst experience ever. I really hope people read the reviews that are on here before going. I did not and I regret it.
They try to tell you that there’s a million different things wrong with your teeth and that you have some kind of bad disease and they upsell you every type of service without cleaning your teeth. I am thinking of reporting them to the Better Business Bureau.
Just a horrible two hours spent in a chair with people trying to sell you things, their name, marketplace, really fits.

I’m starting to see what other reviewers are talking about regarding «up selling» and in general, wasting my time. I also went in for a check up and general cleaning to begin with. I think I spent at least 2 hours there just having them consult or whatever they called it. The hygienist really didn’t do a damn thing besides ex-​rays and then the dentist came in and scraped my teeth for a while. When I asked if I was still going to get the cleaning I requested that day, they told me no, that would have to be rescheduled for another time. Even though the receptionist told me over the phone that yes, I was scheduled for an exam AND cleaning. Up selling tactics used for procedures, just overall lack of knowledge from the receptionists on what was going on and how much things would cost, how long procedures would take, etc. it feels like the people at the front desk and the dentists, hygienists don’t even work in the same building sometimes. Just poor communication, poor professionalism as well. The very young girls in the orthodontics area could have used some classes in school on professionalism and what to say to patients. As could the orthodontist for that matter. Not very impressive and for the amount of money you’ll spend, you owe it to yourself to look elsewhere.

If you want a dentistal office thats acts like they runs a used car lot than go here. The tactics of upselling you on services for your teeth are atrocious! They were very pushing and wasted my time.
I went in for a basic cleaning appointment, A BASIC CLEANING, and two visits three hours later my teeth were cleaned (or were they?). I checked in with the receptionist who made sure I paid up front. Next they brought me into the xray room where the woman rushed me through. And off to the consult chair I went afterwards.
Don’t be confused, a consult chair is not where they clean your teeth like in other Dentist Offices. It is where they hygentists sit you down to poke at your gums. Next the they you all this work needs to be done and she fetches the financial expert. By this point it is already disconcerting how I can see their office schedule for the day laid out based on staff person and home much each current client costs. Yes that is correct! You have a $ next to your name! In the consult chair the financial expert pays you a visit and lets you know that a cleaning that was going to cos $ 75 will now be $ 400. By that point I hadn’t even see the doctor yet, so I told her no thank you again I just want my teeth cleaned and I would like the doctors opinion.
They finally send the doctor in, who poked and proded at my gums. He assured me I had no cavities and thanked me before leaving the room. The dental hygenist returns to let me know I am finish and will need to schedule my cleaning. WHAT THE FLIP? Then what did I just waste two hours my time doing? I told her I wanted my cleaning and she said they could buff my teeth out with an intern. Um no! I paid for a cleaning. She told me they didn’t have time (even though I scheduled an appointment) and I would have to come back. Fine, I said, buff my teeth then.
Afterwards, I scheduled an appointment to come back the next week. Upon returning the next week I had the same pushy hygentist who began working on me and the right before working on the «extras that cost $ 400» she asked if I had already paid up front. To her «surprise» I had not, and for the 4^th and final time I denied their services. JUST GIVE ME THE CLEANING. She cleaned my teeth and it took 20 minutes. I waited two days for a 20 minute cleaning!
Needless to say I left there wondering how well she cleaned my teeth and if the doctor was honest in saying I didn’t have cavities. Maybe he wanted something to fester so I could come back and pay him more money than a cleaning to fix it. Hmm…
What other doctor’s office tries to upsell you on your services?
I spoke with the gal in my office who recommended the place (little did I know this is the only dentist shes ever gone too) and warned her this is not how dentists work. Typically you check in up front, the hygentist takes xrays and cleans your teeth, then you see the doctor who examines the teeth and discusses with you if you need further work. Done-​1 hour

I wish I could give this place a zero.
Not only did they mess up my teeth but they did so without repairing them for free. Whatever you do, do NOT go here.

I also had the push for the big upsell for cleaning wonted me to sign a binding work order in the dental chair. Over $ 700 .I will never be back

I have been going to this dental office for several years now and cannot rave about them enough! Everyone on the staff is friendly and super helpful (even at 7AM in the morning!) Dr. Moss always takes the time to answer my questions and make sure I am comfortable with whatever I am having done. I truly cannot recommend Marketplace Dental highly enough!

Awful experience for my first (and last) cleaning here. Dental hygenist, Misty, pushed some type of special cleaning that would run me several hundred dollars out of pocket. After declining and spending an hour of being «upsold», I had to reschedule a regular cleaning the next week. The next week I comeback and she is still pushing the special cleaning! When I refuse again she says I’ll need to sign a waiver and she’ll do a less extensive cleaning (still not a regular cleaning). Had to threaten to walk out before they performed a regular cleaning. Never had problems with my teeth in 30+ years. Surprised at how pushy and unprofessional they were — will never return.
