Sylmar Grooming

Extremely unfriendly lady at the counter both when dropping off and picking up. The ladies that answered the phone were nice though so maybe it’s just the owner that’s miserable. They failed to mention it was cash only. Good thing I had boatloads of change to count out in the car. The price went up $ 10 between drop off and pick up and when I asked about that, she snapped that it should have been even more because my dog is a Collie. Um, no mean lady, my dog is a purebred German shepherd with an AKC pedigree that was lucky enough to get the long coat recessive gene. Lol. No wonder she didn’t know how to give her a quick body shave down for summer. My baby looks like an oversized terrier now. Lol. My dog ugly!!! Eek! If you go here, be very specific about your breed and cut/​services you want even if your request should be basic knowledge to a pro groomer.

This place Always Always does a great and fast job with my old man Teddy. The owner seems very knowledgable and caring. Also very affordable. Thank you for taking good care of my Teddy :)

Today was my first and last time coming to this place. I took my dog my today and the lady at the front desk said they call me when he was done. Once it was turning around 4 I went to go check up on him because that’s the time they close. When I got there they said he wouldn’t be done for another half hour. So I waited. His haircut looked very good. But until I got home I realized they cut him! I’m very upset I didn’t notice right then and there to complain but I will NEVER bring him back. Now I know why there’s so many bad reviews.

They always have time to take my dog in and they always give me a estimated time, very professional.

Took my fur baby here for the first time, new to the neighborhood and surrounded by groomers. I picked the right one. They took her as a walk in on Saturday and did a great job. I am very picky about her cut and smell they did a perfect job. Spot on prices and they were nice. I will be back.

I’ve taken my dogs here a few times and they did a decent job and did what I asked but not the greatest so I tried pups n style and they cut one of my fogs pretty bad so I bought a trimmer and had my daughter do it so after a few times from her I decided to go back to sylmar groomers and they cut my other dog… why is it my inexperienced daughter can do a better job and not cut them without cutting them but the professional are cutting them. they are very sedate dogs so it’s not them squirming

Very disappointed! I’ve taken my dog here a couple times but this last time it was a horrible job! Looks like I’ll have to find another place!

Very few times I write a review for a shop.
BUT! This place was absolutely THE BEST. If Yall are in the sf valley area give this place a shot. The people are an absolute Gem! And not to mention the work they’ve put into my Maltese/​poodle mix. Thank you to all the groomers working here! I’ve definitely found my new favorite place for the pup!

They do it right.

I had checked their Unilocal just yesterday to see what time they opened and I was surprised by all the negative reviews. My dog had had a few minor cuts over the past 10 years at the hands of Sylmar Grooming, but never as bad as what Unilocalers had reported. Against my better judgement I took my dog today and they had told me that while brushing her ear her skin had torn, she made it sound like a minor tear, when she brought my dog out I was shocked! I couldn’t believe how badly torn her skin had been I was shaking at how her ear looked! I just gasped «this is terrible» and she, through a smile, said «yea it’s pretty terrible» My heart is still pounding jn my chest by how bad my dog’s ear is. I told them I now knew why they had such terrible reviews on Unilocal and that I’d never be back again. I hope this helps others as I now regret not having taken other Unilocalers words and pictures into consideration.
Also, prior to bringing my dog out she had given me a bottle of liquid bandage and a bottle of medicated antiseptic, goes to show how often this happens, right?

I would put negative stars if it was an option! We have been coming to this groomer for a few years and today I went to pick up my dog and they tell me that they have mistakenly given my dog to another customer and that they were trying to contact the customer to return my dog. At this point, I’m in tears because I think my dog was taken by a stranger! 15 minutes later, they bring out my dog and ask if it’s mine. She was there the whole time! I mean not only do they take 4+ hours to groom, but they lack professionalism and organization.
I absolutely do not recommend this place and we will never return.

This was our second visit AND LAST to this groomer. WARNING PUPPY BADLY BURNED!!! My girlfriend took our poddle/​mix for grooming on ²⁄₁₃ and was told he should be done in a couple of hours. We were told they would give us a call, at hour 4 still no call so her son went to check on him and waited 2 more hours before he was done, (we now suspect they were waiting for the cover of darkness). I was pissed it was taking so long and we had not been called so I phoned them and spoke with the owner. I said, «we brought our puppy in 6 hours ago and were told we would be called in 2 – 3 hours…» she cut me off and asked «what dog» after telling her she said, «they already picked him up» to which I asked how long ago (reply was «5 minutes»). Then I was told that it was our fault for «waiting to long for grooming» and «your puppy doesn’t know anything so we had to work on him a little at a time» When I asked why we hadn’t been called as promised she replied with, «we have been working on him ALL DAY»!
Okay so we got the puppy home and went out for to dinner and the next day my girlfriend saw the burn under his chin. I can’t help but think that they held off on giving him to us until nearly closing AND after dark in hopes that we would not see the injury right away and therefore not prove it was at their hands but WE KNOW it was as it could not have happened any other way. I appreciate that Unilocal exists because we can warn others. Judging from the response I got to the simple matter of their tardiness I elected not to call and try to deal with the owner but HIGHLY RECOMMEND that if you use this groomer you do so with extreme caution. I see that we are not the only ones that experienced a BURNED animal, sadly our puppy will perhaps have a fear of groomers now and the effects of someones carelessness may cost him into the future.

I really was expecting to get excellent service here but unfortunately I was very dissapointed. The grooming they did on my dog almost made me cry, to start off her hair was not trimmed properly some spots were shorter than others, at first I thought that was the only problem but then I kept seeing her trying to lick a wound on her chest, turns out whoever shaved her went right over her nipple and it bled. Also there was a huge bald spot right by her tail. I never want to take her to this place again.

I brought my mastiff who doesn’t like anyone touching his paw for a nail trim. I was more nervous than him. I walked in and they saw me right away, no waiting. They were very patient and professional. His nails were long! My dog was moving and barking but they got the job done when I would have quit. Thank you sylmar groomers.

After trying other groomers in the area, I am definitely keeping my business here! Don’t get me wrong, the other places were okay, even quite good, just not for my Papillon/​Chihuahua who, though otherwise sweet as can be, is a terror when getting her nails clipped! So much so, I would be more traumatized than she is dropping her off and picking up a couple hours later to the usual «we had to muzzle her for nails» «It took three of us to hold her down while clipping her nails» «If she bite me, me no work!» or a variant of those lines. Worse, she fell from a high kennel at the last place I went to (what were they thinking? High kennels for cats maybe?) Consequently, this contributed to me procrastinating and my poor indoor dog having long nails — making me feel like the worst dog owner ever to my otherwise spoiled dog! Anyway, I stopped in to Sylmar Grooming to explain my plight and the owner looked at me with seasoned confidence saying ‘Don’t worry, we handle these type of dogs all the time”. The fact they have been in business since 1970 also felt assuring. No sooner did I bring my otherwise feisty girl to the counter and was giving my phone number the assistant was clipping her nails (as I was keeping her in my arms and calm). My dog was not fazed. She was fine as long as I was holding her keeping her calm. GENIUS! I proceeded to have her bathed and groomed. Surprised it all went so fast while I waited.
After almost 4 years of playing groomer hopscotch, I believe we now have our permanent groomer! :)

I have never been disappointed with them. I have a 14 yr old over 20 lb cat. They take her from me with great care and do a wonderful job. They always tell me how well she did when I pick her up. They are always «never too busy» to take her on a Saturday too.

Just had to update, we got kitty shaved yet again this year (she’s very hairy and we get tired of the hair everywhere). Once again her cut was finished quickly (we took her first thing in the morning), and she was very calm when we brought her home. The only negative thing is the smell of the shampoo they use, but I’m sensitive to scents like that, so it’s probably just me. My husband thought she smelled great! And it was gone within a day or two. Would definitely recommend taking a pet here.
One tip– If you have a pet that freaks out and needs to be sedated, they’ll tell you to take it to the vet, then immediately bring the pet back for grooming. NO vet will do this (they have to make sure the pet wakes up). So took us a while to find a vet that also shaves cats (for our other cat, who is very sweet at home but turns into the devil’s spawn at the groomers). If you’re in this situation, take the pet to Roxford Vet clinic. The cut won’t be as good, but at least there won’t be hair everywhere!

Highly recommended for their great service. This is the only place that you can tell them exactly how you want your dogs hair cut and they actually listen.

I love this place they do such a great job on my moms dog Luna. She’s been comin here for 15 yrs since she was a puppy. She gets excited as soon as she walks in the door. There prices are great too

Great prices, great work and friendly staff! need I say more? They take care of my my Shih Tzu, havanese and my apbt. Love this place
