Ugly Bean Coffee

The guy who owns the place is fantastic. I have always had good coffee there and the price is at least a dollar cheaper than everywhere else.
My only disappointment are the hours. I live literally next door to the place and wish I could get my coffee before work, but I have never seen them open that early. Mind you I start working at 8 am, so not an absurdly early time

I had a caramel latte once. Its okay not the best, not the gas station. Cheaper than my usual place, but lower quality. Another time I asked for a large drip and paid for it (2 dollars-​ish) and then was informed that they only do French press and my coffee would be ready in 5 minutes. Normally just a minor inconvenience, but I stopped there because I was running late to work and my regular coffee place is out of my way. The coffee is weedy and not robust at all. Also very limited flavor selection and the worst business hours for a coffee stand I’ve ever seen. I walk by twice a day every week day and some weekends too and it is rarely open when I pass at 9:50 am.
2 stars for being blah.

I came here with a coworker who was also in dire need of a coffee lift me up! I’m so glad that I did!
The barista guy was so nice and friendly. I ordered a iced soy vanilla latte and it was S-​T-​R-​O-​N-​G! If you are looking for something strong to keep you energized for work or school, get something from here! The coffee is pretty reasonably priced and great quality.
I will definitely be coming back for times that I need to wake my ass up! Thanks Ugly Bean!

I come here nearly every morning before class. Before you judge my habit I have to say that one of my favorite things about Ugly Bean is that the coffee is very reasonably priced. The barista is awesome makes a good cup and friendly. What more can I say? Go try this place, be local :)

Tried this tiny little place out today. Ordered a 20oz vanilla latte with extra vanilla. Excellent. Will be back. Keep in mind this place seats maybe 6 people. But it does have a drive thru, and staff are friendly not stuck up like some other shops. Cough cough.

I was visiting a friend in Tacoma and came across this coffee shop. Decided to give it a try and was not disappointed. The coffee here is excellent. They serve Café Umbria. We ordered a vanilla latte and an ice mocha. The owner is super friendly and knowledgeable, and the price is very reasonable. Also, they have a drive-​thru window, which is a plus. We definitely enjoyed the cozy and friendly atmosphere. Will be back!

I had a different review up from a year or so ago, the owner didn’t feel like it was a fair reflection of his business, and contacted me a few times about coming back in to see if my experience would be better. I came in this week, and the experience was a 360 difference from my first time, so I did delete my first review, something that I never really do.
I love coffee, I don’t go to coffee places that are convenient for me, I’m not looking for something close to home, I’m looking for good coffee; so with that being said, I’m very, very picky about the coffee that I like.
I personally am not the biggest fan of the coffee here. It reminded me of coffee that my exchange students liked, so basically not really bold, or smooth, to me, and it’s a bit bitter, but I know some people like that, the bitterness can actually wake you more I think. It’s not bad coffee, it’s just not what I like.
The owner takes pride in what he does, and he really seems to take care of his customers. It would be worth it to go back just to visit with him, it’s more than just a friendly place to go to.

Stumbled across this place during a few hour wander through Tacoma. Coffee is brilliant and the barista was super friendly. What more can you ask for? Worth checking out.

I’ve been a loyal customer for a while here, and here’s why it’s my first choice:
1. Inside: Nicely furnished and cozy
2. Staff: Jung, the owner, is awesome
3. Reasonable prices
3. Tasty although limited snacks

Super friendly barista. He always greets you with a smile and hello. He was very knowledgable about the beans and roast.
So far I’ve tried a latte and an iced black and white mocha. My friend loved the latte and wouldn’t stop taking about how smooth it is. I loved the iced black and white moha. One of the best iced mochas. (And as much as it pains me to say it, it was smooth). The location is a little oddly placed if you’re not familiar with it, but I work across the street so it’s perfect to grab a coffee on break. It is also small inside, so 3 or 4 patrons feels like a crowd. Lovely table outside or a bar inside the window to sit and people watch.

was jst walking my dog finn and stumbled upon this tiny indie family run javashop.
was tea and coffeeout so gave the 20 oz hot choco a twirl delicious. they have free wifi
and a drive thru great friendly service. i, m just stoked to try there other coffee drinks

If you don’t know what a macchiato is or how to not kill it with caramel, then you shouldn’t be in the coffee business. Not the best coffee in Tacoma unless your striving for mediocrity.

Great little coffee shop. Has a drive-​thru window and a small area inside to sit down. I live in the neighborhood, and my husband and I will definitely be back. Friendly service and great coffee! They serve Café’ Umbria, which any coffee geek will jump for joy over. …I certainly did. AND they use Monin and Torani syrups. Kudos to manager Jung Yi for being awesome and offering punchcards and fantastic coffee. :)

Best coffee shop in Tacoma. Kind of funky to drive out of… too hard to explain but you know what I mean when you stop by.
Recommend an iced 20 ounce, non fat, vanilla latte. My taste buds were overly pleased!

I am always looking for a new coffee place, and I definitely think that this new coffee joint is AWESOME! Their french press is amazing! Great prices as well. They also have punch cards, which is a plus. I am definitely going to be a regular here.
