Tahoe City Chevron Center

So frustrating! Was told during an oil change I needed new brake pads. Purchased them and then they squealed like crazy! Took my car back in and they said nothing was wrong, sometimes they just squeal. But, maybe new rotors would help. Got new rotors. Didn’t help. People would turn their heads when I stopped because it was sooooo loud! Took my car to another shop and they said — «Bring it back! They installed really cheap pads. That’s the problem. Make them install better pads.» Nice. Sorry, not going back. Ever again.

It’s like they don’t even want your business. Twice now I have been turned away basically. Once with my car sitting on a tow truck in front of the shop… pretty hard to believe that I couldn’t leave my car to get a tire mounted…

Car broken down on a Tahoe ski trip weekend based on overheating. I had to drop the car off at Tahoe City Chevron on a Sunday. I figured anytime your car breaks down it will cost $ 1,000 to fix it. Tahoe City Chevron fixed the minor problem with a grand total of $ 90, which was a defective cap on the radiator. The staff helped organize moving the vehicle to a secure location where I was able to come back to Tahoe to pick it up a few days later. There is nothing better than a reliable trustworthy service center. Job well done. Thank you Tahoe City Chevron!

They are open ²⁴⁄₇ for fuel. They have full service auto repair monday thru saturday and sell new tires. Thus is Luke the old days. Hard to find a brand named service station that hasn’t turned into a store or car wash. Great service here.

This guys used to be great… No idea what happened in the last year. But I’ve had nothing but reoccurring problems since I brought my car in for a simple oil change. Now I can’t even open my trunk, but of course they are claiming it was already like that. Then why wouldn’t they have informed me of that when I picked up vehicle? These people are the worst and extremely dishonest. Stay away at any cost!

This place is awful, total waste of time. Called up, needed a nail in tire repaired, they said drop in, I was there 15 minutes later, and their was nobody to help me for 45 minutes.
UPDATE:
Since I did have a nail in my tire and leaking air, I was forced to go back the next day and was treated much better. Mechanic dropped what he was doing and put a patch on the inside of the tire and remounted it all in 10 minutes… fairly affordable $ 17.50, worth the peace of mind.

Stopped in to have a nail removed from tire. Miguel was very professional and helpful in removing the nail and getting me on my way quickly. He was very friendly as well. I will use this station every time I visit Tahoe going forward.

Stay Away! These guys are the worst. They broke a part on the car while repairing another. Then they told us they «found» another problem and had the part on order. Of course, the replacement part for the one they broke didn’t arrive as planned and we were stuck without our car for an extra three days. Finally, we took the car back and brought it to a much better repair shop and got it running again. Tahoe City Chevron cost us an extra $ 500 in repairs, the use of the car for our entire trip, and an extra 8 hour day fixing the problem they created… and this didn’t bother them in the least.

We were spending Thanksgiving weekend up in the mountains, and found we had a flat tire after leaving Squaw Valley. It was late on a Saturday night, and these guys were the only ones open on Sunday. We pulled in at 0830 and they fixed our flat and had us back on the road in one hour for $ 17. You can’t beat that!

Lack of communication between person answering phones and tire repair staff. Hint: make sure you ask if they can fix a flat TODAY before you drive there! Doesn’t matter on time of day. :(

These guys do tires. When I need the summer or winter tires swapped out or I have a stud leaking or a nail in the tire I bring them to TC Chevron. Occasionally I go for oil changes, but they are a little pricey when I can get it done in Reno at Hutch’s for cheaper (and they include a full car wash). And I took in a car to get an alignment and had to turn around on a Saturday and go to Vulcanizing in Reno to get it re-​done, but Chevron refunded me on the charges. For general repairs I go to Bill Fisher over on Lake Forest or Big Bear by Alpine, so Chevron isn’t my one-​stop-​shop, but in a pinch I’ve been able to call and get things done since they are right around the corner and open on weekends (which not a lot of shops are, so that’s a big plus). They take care of the locals if they are backed up, which is awesome during holiday weeks. I wish they were open 24 hours for gas like the Shell next door. In the summer they have rafts and don’t charge for air while the Shell charges $ 1 a fill.

Really dislike this place. They were rude to me, did NOT want to answer any questions, and overcharged. Strongly dislike

I had a leaking tire for weeks and it decided to speed up the deflating when we were on a visit from SF on President’s day weekend. Luis and Fernando patched it quickly and friendly for under $ 20, on a Saturday without advance notice. Excellent service.

This is the last gas station you hit on your way out of Tahoe City, however there’s a Shell on 89 right before you hit I-​80. This station is clean, but I like hitting the Shell better as the Shell has more room and better snack selection.

These guys shot me straight when we had a breakdown up in the mountains. They took our Honda apart, figured out what was wrong, and realized that the job was a risky one for them to do (if messed up, could ruin the engine block).
On their own, they checked the web and realized that the broken part was actually part of the Honda recall program, called me, and explained that we should ship it to the dealer, at Honda’s expense. They ended up being correct.
They put the car back together and when we got there with the tow truck, we asked the owner how much we owed him & he said «we’re not going to charge you for this».
It was a more-​than-​reasonable thing to do… considering they checked it out, then put it in the garage, then took it apart, then researched online, then put it back together. In the process, i spoke with Luis, Fernando, David, and Bill. They were each competent, friendly, and were spot on with their diagnosis. And they did it for free.
Somehow, they got a bad Unilocal rap so far, but they certainly did right by us. and were the only place open over the weekend in tahoe city.

I got a flat on Saturday night, and this Chevron was the only place open on Sunday that had tires. I called that night, and they confirmed that they had the tire I needed in stock and said I could come in as early as 8am on Sunday to get it changed. I arrived at 10am on Sunday, and both Tasha and Luis were super helpful. I told them I had hoped to make brunch with my family, but with the flat, I thought it was going to be impossible. They took me right away, sped me through the paperwork, and 30 minutes later, I was on my way back and made brunch with my family. Luis even put the spare back into its storage space, and put all of the spare tools that I gotten out back into its place too, so when they gave me the car back, it was like I had never had a flat. What a huge turnaround for me that morning going from anxious about getting the tire fixed, so we could get home to being able to make brunch and get home safely. 5 stars for Tasha, Luis, and Chevron Tahoe City on this Sunday!

If you would like to have your time wasted and treated poorly, this is your place.
I made two separate trips and called in twice to have my oil changed, only to be barked at by the head mechanic, wait in an line, spend 7 minuets giving him the spelling of my name and address, only for him to make a call and tell me that they don’t have the oil filter in stock to change my oil.
If I wen’t hurried off the phone when i called 10 minuets earlier to specifically ask if they could change my diesel oil today, maybe they could have actually checked instead of making me drive there in person, in the snow, to be treated like an inconvenience to their business. (Even the man in line next to me comment on how «unhappy» both the mechanic and the cashier looked).
Rude does not even begin to describe how i was treated. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere but here.

Wow, I am surprised no one else has reviewed this place. I would give it one star, but I’m being nice because they do have a decent price to switch tires (snow tires to summer tires and vice versa), and they do have good prices for gas and don’t charge the holding fee like the Shell next door.
Okay, that being said — this place is definitely a one star or less for all other automotive repairs, and I am serious. On multiple occasions, they have had no friggin clue what is wrong with my car, but decided to make up some b.s. and try to charge me.
At the end of my last car’s life, they actually charged me almost $ 300 for the car to break down in an intersection a week later (where I had it towed back to Chevron), and one employee admitted to «jerry rigging» it. Ummm… I’m sorry but who the F wants to pay $ 300 for a jerry rig? They proceeded to tell me the car was unable to be fixed… I asked for the $ back, but nope. And not only that… they still charged me the regular price to put my snow tires on the new car, even though they basically admitted they had screwed me over…
Please, I warn you… do not go here for anything besides gas and tires, and even then beware…
