Roda Movements

It’s a really nice, local studio. The prices for classes are reasonable and the teachers are great. I took a body conditioning class with Roberto, which was very challenging and what I needed, incorporating HIIT and core work. I’ve been going to the evening Zumba classes that are really fun and a great workout. Andres is fantastic — full of energy, lots of transitions and you are usually sweating within the first 10 minutes. It’s definitely a great workout. I only wish the studio had even more classes during the week at different times, like the morning or lunchtime, but the classes I have tried so far have been great.

Been here many times for SAMBA classes with the one and only amazing Zezeh! She was a Rainha de Bateria (Drum Queen/​Samba Queen) in Brazil for many years. The way she teaches with such passion is so inspiring. If you’ve never tried SAMBA, come to a class and let the rhythm pierce you down to your soul! Google Zezeh Brazil samba and see what I mean!
The studio is cozy, beautiful and always clean. It’s so cute to the see all the children coming for Capoeira on Saturdays. They also have great turn outs for adult Capoeira. Be sure to check the website for specials and schedules or give them a call to confirm class times.

I have attended a lot of Zumba classes, but Zumba with Carol, who teaches Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons, is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I love that she does not use the same moves that all of the other chain-​gym Zumba teachers use.
I went for the first time today. I loved the energy, choreography, and music. At times I wanted to just sit on the sofa with a bowl of popcorn and watch Carol dance; she is that fantastic a dancer. The crowd was very diverse in terms of age, ethnicity, and fitness/​dance level, so no one would feel out of place here. The gentleman who greeted me (owner?) was very professional, courteous, and inviting.
If I lived in the area, this would be my regular spot for getting fit. I will definitely return the next time I’m in town.

The Friday evening and Satuday 1pm Zumba classes are FABULOUS! Good music, great energy and moves that are easy to catch onto. Get there early if you want a decent space because it is usually packed. You will walk out dripping sweat but you’ll feel great!

I have been looking for a good Zumba class that is closer to my home. Carol Ortiz, the Fri and Sat instructor, is fantastic. She is full of energy and takes her time cooling down at the end of class. The owner of Roda is very friendly and if you get a groupon or other deal the price per class is very competitive for the area.

I used to regularly attend Roda, but recently quit due to several actions conducted by the instructor. The advanced students were the ones who taught me all the Capoeira moves I know. The instructor never started the classes and he rarely had a lesson plan with cohesive and sequential movements. Additionally, he is extremely unprofessional and routinely alienates students that rub him the wrong way. There is a revolving door of women in the Capoeira class. If you are young and slender prepared to be hit on! There are other Capoeira communities in the DC/​MD area worth checking out.

Thursday, July 5^th, I decided to attend my first Zumba Class at Roda Movements. I was notified of a wonderful deal thru Living Social of 10 classses for $ 20.00, so I decided to partake. Since my relocation here to the DMV, I have put on more pounds then I wanted to, so I decided to GET FIT! The class was taught by Allyson from 6:30 to 7:30. And I tell you, this instructor is DYNAMITE! Let me confess I hadnt taken a class in years. But in my past I was a dancer, cheerleader, and trackster, that still can dance a litte. Allyson worked me — I kept having to stop to catch my self. She kept the class moving and the music was on point. She mixed a variety of dance techniques from african to latin with a little jazz. After class I made her aquaintance and she informed me that she would just be here for the month of July every Thursday. So this will be my hangout on Thursday nights. And I know that I will buy a membership after my voucher runs out, because she says she may stay on after July.

I’ve been going to Zumba at Roda once or twice a week since December. The instructors are super enthusiastic and welcoming. It really does feel like a dance party, or at least that’s what I tell myself when I’m ready to fall over and still trying to wave my arms around. The owner is friendly and flexible, and I always look forward to going.

Recently started taking Capoeira classes here. As others have mentioned they are reasonable with the class passes. There are occasional Unilocal,Groupon and other online coupon deals to save a little bit. (for those that aren’t familiar with capoeira, it is a brazillian martial art/​dance/​gymnastic discipline that is done to music in a circle, similar to breakdancing but at the same time very different. The style of Capoeira taught here is Regional style)
Prices are much cheaper than other gyms and martial art schools so you almost don’t need discounts. I can’t speak for the other classes since I have not taken them. The Zumba classes seem to be very popular. There is ample parking behind the studio for customers.
It’s a great space with a friendly knowledgeable owner, would recommend to anyone interested in their various classes. The atmosphere is extremely welcoming and positive. No matter what class you choose you are likely to leave with excellent cardio.
Way more fun and interesting than jogging in my opinion.

We’ve been attending the Zumba classes at Roda for the past few weeks and we’re very impressed. This place is a locally owned small business in Takoma Park. Roberto the owner is really great and friendly and the Zumba instructors Victorine and Carol are really great as well. I would highly recommend this to anyone who’s looking for a fun way to get a workout.

Tried out a zumba class tonight and ended up buying a 15-​class pass, which is good for four months. Unlike big gyms, the pass is super-​flexible — good for any of the classes (zumba, capoeira, pilates, yoga, Brazilian jujitsu, etc.), and the friendly owner told us that if we couldn’t make it to 15 classes in four months he’d just extend the time on the pass. The zumba class was fun and a great workout, and the crowd was diverse in terms of size and experience, which was refreshing. They have capoeira classes for kids, too, and the one I saw the end of looked like a lot of fun!

Came here for a week to support their batizado. Instructor Bucho is a very nice and experienced instructor and was very gracious when he hosted the event.
His students were a pleasure to work with. You could really tell how much they believed in their academy and or their school, Sul Da Bahia DC.
They have great axe and energy and would recommend this place to anyone who has no experience in capoeira or to those from other schools that want to get a workout in.
