Business Owner

A licensed Hairstylist and Colorist for 25 years, Mary is the owner of Athena Salon and Spa and has also worked as a Hair Color Educator and Trainer for the Aveda Corporation for 13 years.

Over the course of her eighteen-​year association with Aveda, Mary has provided Hair Color Systems, Hair Color Solutions, and Customized Hair Coloring Techniques classes for salons throughout Florida at various Aveda Institutes. In addition to her functions as an Aveda educator, Mary has worked with industry luminaries including; David Adams, Anna Karsis, Dereck Scurry, Charlie Morris Price, and the Ray Ciavello team.

The Athena Salon and Spa Team specialize in Aveda Hair color, Mary’s drive to provide high quality instruction in the art of hair coloring is an outgrowth of her dedication to life-​long learning. Her business philosophy is one that promotes individual growth, while emphasizing teamwork among the talented artists who comprise Athena Salon and Spa’s dedicated staff.

When I first called someone answered the phone and didn’t say anything. I had to verify I had called the right place since it was not indicated by whomever answered the phone.
I asked if they performed body wave services and the girl who I was speaking with laughed and said «um you want a perm? Let me go ask» She kept putting me on hold and finally came back and told me they performed two different types — own that only lasted for a day or two and a chemical option that was more permanent. I told her I would like the latter service and asked about appointment availability. She put me on hold once again to «go ask» and when she came back she said I’d need to come in the upcoming weekend for a consult to decide which service I wanted (though I had already indicated which I wanted…) and then they could schedule the appointment for the weekend after. No thank you, the lack of customer service lost any chance of my business.

This is where I go to get my hair cut. Natalie is my stylist and she does an incredible job. She takes her time and is methodical with the cut and style of your hair (no need to worry about her taking more off than you want). The salon is always clean and the staff are always friendly, polite and professional. Money well spent!

Do I have to give them one star? I set up my appointment for 3:00pm. I got a phone call from them saying the stylist that I had an appointment with quit, so I rescheduled my appointment for 1:15pm as requested, no problem. I got there and waited, then waited, and waited some more. Finally I asked when I would be seen, it was 2:00pm. The receptionist said, «sorry, you’re next, maybe 15 more minutes.» I waited until 2:20 pm and just got tired of kids screaming and grabbing me. I scheduled an appointment with another salon, canceled my appointment and left. I waisted all that time being screamed at by children in a small waiting area. I picked this place because of the good reviews, in hindsight I think Athena Salon either wrote their own reviews, or they got family and friends to do so. I would not recommend this place, well maybe if I wanted you to suffer, then I would.

I’ve been going to this salon since a horrible experience at a different (non-​Aveda) salon in town. The stylists there are truly artists and can work with any type of hairstyle and make you look absolutely fabulous. Sarah is one of the most patient people when it comes to my way, thin, unwilling-​to-​cooperate-​at-​times hair. Casey always provides a unique and relaxing experience in both her massages and facials. Everyone is always friendly, even during their busiest times. Their monthly emails with discounts and news are like clockwork. I highly recommend this salon to anyone who needs a fantastic salon.
