Haute Headz

This review is really more for my individual stylist as opposed to the shop itself. I will say, the shop is very spacious, which is always nice and the décor is spot on. I called the Betton Hills location on a Friday afternoon for a cut and color and they were able to get me in on Monday afternoon, so booking was no issue. I was met with smiles and attentiveness upon arrival and my stylist was on schedule, which was nice. I wanted a bob and subtle antique pink hair and was not let down. Please, do yourself a favor and go see Taylor. You will not be disappointed. She is very personable and does a great job of listening to what you want. Beyond merely listening, Taylor is eager to do a great job and actually DOES what you want. It’s refreshing. As a stylist myself, I am pretty easygoing with my hair (it grows back people), but I do have a list of non negotiables when I visit a salon. I will definitely be back to visit her… and if she ever moves to another salon, I will follow her.

I got a haircut from here today and was really disappointed. I just wanted a trim, which is what I got, but she barely did anything. My ends are still pretty bad. $ 60 is pretty pricey for a trim, but I was okay with paying that since it comes with a shampoo and styling. My blow out is okay. really not the best though. I’ve gotten better blow outs for a lower price. And while my stylist was pretty nice, she said to me at one point «You have just terrible luck with your hair!» Not the best choice of words. The salon was really beautiful, and I had high expectations, but I won’t be coming back here, and I regret spending my money here in the first place.

The biggest rip off ever. Although complex, with 2 colors, together with a basic cut, these folks are trying to fund their retirement rapidly. It turned out acceptably, but I’ve had my hair done in Seattle, New York, and Portland to name a few places. From out of town, I inquired as to whether they could do multilevel colors and a «big» style and was assured they could and did do such work. I’m surprised I didn’t need transportation to the nearest ER, when billed $ 300 for the haircut. WATCH OUT, THEY’RE AFTER YOUR FORTUNE!

Russell Rooney took me from brunette to a gorgeous honey blonde without any breakage. Besides his obvious talent and skill, he was super easy to talk to and listened to what I wanted done. I couldnt be more thrilled with how my hair turned out or my experience with the stylists. Everyone was super friendly!

I think this salon is really quite amazing inside. The interior is so beautiful and open and it’s just decorated really well. Overall, I had a really good experience but with some setbacks.
I scheduled an appointment to come into the Betton Hills location. It was pretty easy to get an appointment which was good because I really needed a haircut, bad. So I came into the salon and let them know that I was there for my appointment, which was scheduled at 3 p.m.
This is where the appointment went awry. I waited for half an hour while countless other people who arrived after me were seen before I was. I had to actually go to the counter at 3:30 and tell them I had been waiting to which they told me my stylist had lost track of time helping someone else at the salon.
I was pretty irritated at this point for my stylist’s inconsiderate demeanor and for basically wasting half an hour of my life because she «lost track of time.» The girl at the counter offered $ 10 off my service which was basically the most they could do for me, so at least they gave me that, but still.
My stylist was pretty quiet. No friendly conversation like I saw happening around me, very straight to business, which is fine but sometimes it’s nice to have conversation every now and then.
My hair ended up looking fabulous, which was really great, but I went in feeling kind of negative about the experience initially because of the wait. If I were to go again, I would see another stylist.

I am a New York girl who gets my hair blow dried several times a week. I have thick frizzy hair that is hard to blow dry. I had my fingers crossed for at least a decent blow dry. Jessica was there at 8am as promised and was phenomenal. Not only did my hair look great on Friday — but it held through 3 days of lots of activity. She was extremely nice, pretty and SKILLED! And, the salon is cool.

Well, I’m in my sixties and I have probably been in all the top salons in town at this point in my life. Haute Headz is the very best. My hair is hard to cut! It’s fine, kicks to the left, one side is totally thicker than the other and I have three cow licks. When haircuts did not turn out well at other salons, I was told that the two sides of my hair are like two different heads of hair. Ok, but what was I supposed to do about that? Well, now I go to Niki, a Master Stylist at Haute Headz and you can’t tell one side is so totally different from the other. There is an art to cutting my hair and it takes an artist to do it. It takes a snip here and a chop there! It takes someone caring enough to get it right because that cut is going to make a huge difference in my life and how I feel everyday. Niki cares and she’s an artist! By the way she is the first hairdresser that says cutting my hair dry lets her see the shape better which explains why I looked butchered for so many years when my hair was cut wet!
Now to make matters worse… I have white and grey and brown roots. Super! I want to have hair that looks like it did fifteen years ago. So… She colors the roots auburn brown and then she puts in low lights and blonde highlights. If you couldn’t see my face but just the back of my hair you would think I was fifteen years younger! She does an excellent job! She cares and that matters more than anything.
I go for a cut and a color every four weeks and I will keep going until either I can’t walk or I can’t drive. I recommend that you try Haute Headz if you have aging problem hair and you want to look and feel younger!

I made an appointment in the morning for the afternoon. They answered quickly and made the appointment cheerfully.
Avery cut my hair and I love it! She listened to what I wanted at the start and asked questions that made me feel like she was listening. She explained what she was doing before she cut my hair, too. She also spent plenty of time cutting while wet, styling, and reviewing the cut dry. I felt like I was in good hands.
Expensive, but worth it!

I wanted to get blue/​teal ombré hair. I have naturally black hair and had never colored my hair. While setting up the appt. I asked specifically for someone who has worked with indian/​black hair as I had heard coloring darker hair is harder. I showed the stylist (Sammy) a picture of the exact color I had wanted. After she started bleaching my hair she found out that they did not have the blue dye color from the normal company they utilize. Thus she went ahead and bought a blue dye from another company. She assured me this was fine and will be not a problem. I was nervous if she would be able to deliver the blue that I had wanted if she was using another company. After more than 4 hours of sitting there after bleaching, putting in the blue and finishing my hair came out completely black. It was no different from when I had gone in. The stylist seemed genuinely upset that it did not work. However her excuse was she had never worked with that color before and had «googled» the instructions prior to buying the product and it seemed like it should work fine. I was upset since I only found out about all this after the whole process. If this was a potential problem, this is something that should have been discussed with me prior to the 4 hours. The stylist only charged me for the haircut. They told me to call and find out when they would have the blue color back in stock from the company they normally use and to come back in again. I decided to give them a second chance, however what upset is most, hence the reason for this poor review is that I called multiple times and never received a call back. I was told the stylist would call me back, however this never happened. Their customer service is terrible!

I have only been going here a little while, but it has been great so far. I have gone to Elora for both cut and color and she is awesome! She clearly cares about what she does and is perfectionist about giving you what you want… I like that she actually pays attention to what I’m going for, and gives feedback as to whether she thinks it will look good on you, or whether you should consider maybe altering it a bit, etc. HH is def expensive but worth it IMO. The salon itself is really nice and cute too.

Appointment booked 10 days in advance for 3:30 PM. I arrived exactly on time. I walked out at 3:57. There are some very good hair stylists here, which is why they are getting two stars instead of one. However, their customer service sucks… and always has.
UPDATE: Fair disclosure: found out they called me at 2:30 to tell me the stylist was running late. Didn’t get the message until after I Unilocaled this. However, when I came in at exactly 3:30, no one mentioned that she was running let. They just let me sit.

I’ve seen a bunch of the stylists here and never been disappointed. They all listen very well and are talented. Love their Bumble & Bumble products too! My favorite part is that they’re open on Sundays and they can always get you in same or next day.

An assembly line of stylists. No one offers to take your coat, no one offered a coffee or even water. Noisy as hell. Not a nice experience at all.

I recommend Sophie for asian hair. Especially asian men hair. She cuts my hubby’s hair and she does a good job. If you have a asian husband that likes stylish short hair I recommend you try her. Her price is good to.

Went here for first time last night for mens cut. Sophie was my stylist. Really easy to talk to, gave a great shampoo and haircut. Very comfortable salon. Will definitely go back.

Although I have seen better salons in my lifetime, I didn’t see a reason not to give those guys 5 stars. I like the product they use which is Bumble and Bumble. My hair took kindly to it. It’s not harsh. I never tried getting my hair cut. Color is all I could stomach to risk. I will let you know if that changes.

I tried a couple of other places in Tally including the much-​acclaimed Hair on Earth (meh…), and settled on Haute Headz, which I have been going to for over a year now. I absolutely LOVE my girl (Sarah Michelle). She is great about knowing her clients, and, importantly, their hair.
She does a great job with color especially. At first I would give her very detailed instructions about what I wanted it to look like, and she always did exactly what I wanted, which I think is really important. After awhile, I learned to trust her judgment and now I just sort of describe what I am going for in general terms and she executes it better than I could have pictured it. I’m a natural blonde, and she is great with highlights and lowlights, but she really won me over when I decided to go red. She picked the exact right shade for my skintone, and did a great job with it. The one time she put in too many lowlights (when I was blonde), I called her the next week to say I wasn’t a fan, and she got me in right away, fixed it, and didn’t charge me a dime. They use great products so the color last a long time, and my hair is always healthy and shiny.
Overall, the staff is great about accommodating you and squeezing you in if you need an appointment fast or have a tricky schedule. They sell the full range of bumble and bumble products, as well as unique vintagey jewelry. They also have a manicurist there if you want to get all of your pampering done at once.

I used to go here when I lived in Tallahassee and at first I wasn’t sure because the person I had didn’t do what I asked, but that person is no longer there and afterwards I went to Brynn for everything! She always does what I ask and makes it look better than I could imagine. Now, I live 3,000 miles away, but make sure I stop in to see Brynn anytime I am in town to have her cut my hair. I have had many friends go to other stylists there who are just as amazing, but I can’t imagine ever finding a stylist as good as Brynn!
They have amazing products such as bumble and bumble and always make my hair smell good, feel good, look good, as well as it being shiny!
This is the best salon in Tallahassee!
