Jack Creek Cellars

Although their strengths are their luscious estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, they’ve recently expanded to Grenache and Syrah. Their wines are not cheap, but they are delicious and usually sell out within a few months of release. They have some special projects using concrete fermentation tanks as well as a sparkling wine so their fall 2015 release should be special. However, their tasting bar is tiny (4 – 6 people) and they often require appointments so call ahead.

Great experience here. Been going to Paso for 10 years and first time we visited them. Really good Pinot Noir’s, we even joined the club. Nice food and wine pairings and really cool girl doing the pourings. Go here and you won’t be disappointed…

Great spot for a smaller tasting; delicious pinots and syrahs. Very knowledgeable servers. A bit on the pricey side.

One of the few places in the area where you can find Chardonnay. All of the wines were wonderful… and the Grenache we bought received such high praise when we served it. We were able to come in without an appointment on a Sunday, but the other days of the week they are required.

Had a great experience here! Quaint little gem nestled within their estate vineyard. Wine was delicious, and loved doing their focused tasting. It was easy to make an appointment, even the day of! We left with a Pinot and Grenache

We had a great time at Jack Creek this past weekend. We stopped by without an appointment (since it was recommended to us earlier that day by someone at Denner) and were welcomed in anyway for a tasting. The atmosphere was inviting, and the person pouring for us was friendly but non-​intrusive. They do a focused tasting where they pair each of the wines with something. In our case, it was two cheeses, a salami, and a DELICIOUS cinnamon ice cream. A really fun experience, and a memorable one. We bought a couple bottles and would definitely return for more.

We’ve been here several years in a row and usually enjoyed the experience. The wine is generally good, although the price point is a little much for the quality and brand. Nonetheless, we enjoy visiting Jack Creek Cellars, and in past years have enjoyed delicious pairings along with the wine they are pouring. The Concrete Blonde, Pinot Noir, and Syrah are usually pretty consistent and good.
This time… sorry guys, not a good experience. What happened? You used to be so much fun!!! There are so many rules it’s like trying to do business with the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld. Yikes. Our friends were in the wine club, so we went there for tasting. Wine tasting was free for one person for $ 50 purchase, and you got free tacos if you were in the wine club. Ok so we didn’t want the tacos, but the wine club members got library wine tasting and since we were with our friends in the wine club, we assumed we could get library tasting on their membership, and the nicer people out front gave us all wine member glasses.
Heck no!!! One of the women kept asking me if I was in the wine club, and I told her no we were with my friends. «well this area is for members only, usually we don’t allow non-​members in here». Okay okay!!! So we left. The reserve Pinot Noir cost almost as much as a bottle of Sea Smoke, and wasn’t all that for the price. So we left the library with our tails between our legs. Honestly we might have bought the reserve Chardonnay (although overpriced, it was good), but the experience left a sour taste in our mouth so we weren’t willing to spend the money.
Hopefully this is phenomenon that only occurs around busy festival times, but from what we are hearing, other patrons are complaining about the excessive amount of «rules» to taste.
And no member discount for buying wine? What’s the point of being in a wine club?

Loved the setting and surrounding areas here. Even have an outdoor picnic area that is shaded if you have your own lunch. Their wine variety was unique. I was blown away they have a cement egg and cement hippos. I had only heard about them being used for wine making but had never seen them. Pretty cool they were super nice and took us in the back to see them.
Worth a stop you won’t be disappointed.

Just got back from a few days of wine tasting in and around Paso Robles. The first stop of our trip was at Jack Creek Cellars in Templeton.
It is rare that the first experience outshines the proceeding ones, but in this case it did.
We enjoyed the drive into their lush fields and charmingly simple tasting property and were impressed with their staff and their processes.
We rank them as the best out of all the vineyards we visited because the owner’s authentic talent and love for the craft was simply evident in the wines.
Now that we are home, my husband and I both agree that the Jack Creek Chardonnay is our favorite wine discovery of the entire trip.
We want to join their wine club because they have a smallish production and this label is not available in our area.
Highly recommended as worth the time and trip.

A small tasting room, but the wine and servers were delightful. We got tips on hiking trails in the area to try out and our server tempted us by letting us taste their «cement» wines (wine aged in cement vice barrels or steel). We had a ball. Will come back.

This was our favorite of the whole trip! Fantastic wines, really friendly servers. The tasting room is quite small but it wasn’t too crowded and the servers were very accomodating, often walking the bottles out to pour. Night and day from our experience at the previous small winery. I loved both the pinot and the syrah (you’ll have to check my husband’s Unilocal for wine notes, I was holding a baby).

I thought the wine was okay. They had a 2010 Concrete Blonde Chardonnay that we bought and took to dinner. Unfortunately we bought it on a recommendation because they weren’t pouring it.
There was only one lady pouring, but two there and place needed someone else to help out. The tasting room was in the warehouse, but not bad but the bar was short and hard to fit people in. It was okay, but I probably won’t be back.

The wines were pretty good but the tasting room experience was not. Basically it was one of the least interactive tasting experiences we have ever had. There were about ten of us, mostly people that work in the industry. We received no tasting info just poured the wine and our attendant stood there. When it was time to purchase wine we began to show our industry cards, this was not good enough, we had to give them the card so it could be stapled to our receipt. One had forgot her business card and found her pay stub but that wasn’t good enough. Now would we as industry people refer this tasting room? Guess the answer is pretty obvious.

The BEST pinot noir in the San Luis Obispo county, bar none.

By how many winery that I have been zooming through on sat… this is one of the great one… superb services. and of course the wine is great to begin with…
and the how many wineries before this one that I hit… lol I lost track… but then they really have the best Pinot…

Really, really liked this place. The view, the service and the wines made for a pleasant experience.
The crew got there as they were just opening up. So we lucked out with no there people in there and got solid attention. Mrs. Baker was loving the view and house.

So, on to the wines;
’10 Chard — WOW! This by far was one best Chards I have ever had. Low malo and he combines oak and steel. Which explains why the GF and I loved it.
’10 Estate Pinot — Shockingly, Mr. Baker loved the Pinot. He is more into the American style and for him to like it is a good sign.
’10 Estate Pinot Res. — Even better, the Pinot just stayed with you on this one.
’09 Grenache — Whoa! Very, very good. 100% Grenache and was just great. Got one.
What became a tease was the Concrete Blonde. It’s a Chard but rather then use barrels or steel containers, he is using concrete vats. WH… WH…WHAT? Yup, concrete. I asked with it does and said it gives a mineral taste. BUT! It’s only for club members. Like i said, tease.
All and all it was a good visit with some outstanding wines.

Was told it was THE place for amazing Pinot Noir, but when we arrived they were sold out. I guess it really is that good! I’ll have to stop in next year to try and get my hands on some.
The other wines we tried were spectacular, however. Most especially the Syrah. I LOVED IT!!!
The woman doing the sampling was nice and we had the place to ourselves.
I was disappointed that we were still charged one tasting fee, in spite of buying three bottles of wine. The prices were a little higher here, but honestly the wine was delicious.

We were recently in the tasting room with a large group of our friends. Jack Creek was recommended to us because a few of us really like Pinot Noir and we were told they had a good one! We were sorely disappointed. The wine was ok, not the best, but the tasting room was a disappointment. They clearly weren’t ready for our group, didn’t interact with us at all, and just weren’t very friendly.
Finally, the $ 10 tasting fee wasn’t worth it, and you had to buy 3 bottles to get a free tasting! We didn’t even buy one!
Would not go back. Sorry!

If you like a California-​style Pinot Noir and a little cream in your Chardonnay, you better go here. (Preferably before your palate has been blasted by 4 or 5 other wineries.)
I love Jack Creek’s wine. And I mean that very sincerely. Another great, friendly family with solid, solid wine.
This is one of the only places in Paso that can produce a nice, locally grown Pinot and Chardonnay. Their vineyard sits in what we call the Templeton Gap, and the cooler influence there allows them to blow everyone else out of the water when it comes to those particular varietals. The Pinot is not a heavy, musky Burgundian-​style Pinot, and the Chardonnay has more of a buttery profile, rather than crisp. I also love their deep, dark, luscious Syrah.
Writing this is making me salivate, honestly.
The tasting room is nothing fancy, as it’s within the cellar, but the surrounding vineyards are beautiful, as are the views of the signature rolling hills and oak trees behind the property.
One thing I will say is that you might check into what’s being offered before you go. The smaller wineries tend to sell out quickly, and you’ll want as much of their list as you can get your hands on. They are only open on weekends (which makes me pouty).
I always tell people that are cruising Vineyard Drive to pop in to Jack Creek. The road it’s on is much shorter than it looks on the wine maps and it’s so, so worth it.

Highlights:
— Stunning view: from property you can see an impressive hill with a house sitting up top
— Pinots: I’m a zin girl, but hub loved them and bought bottle of each we tasted.
Lowlights:
— Tastings $ 9 and unlike places who waive the fee with purchase here they only do that for every 3 bottles. Also said $ 7 on our menu but looking at our bill later they charged us 9.
Nice stop and if the hub needs pinot refills, we’ll be back.
