Gold’s Gym Thousand Oaks

I love this gym! The equipment is quality and well maintained plus the facility is clean. I worked with the trainer named Sascha and she kicks my butt every week. I broke my wrist and had my cast removed shortly before starting here so my muscles were weak and prone to injury and I have to say all of the employees I’ve come into contact with are knowledgeable and professional. They’re also understanding to limitations and will adapt workout routines accordingly. The classes always look like fun, too so I will be trying that next. Thanks, Sascha!

This gym «legally steals your money» As my friend (who used to work there) has told me. Do not sign up for any kind of membership! I’ve given them close to 2K in personal trainer packages that I couldn’t get back (even though I’ve never used them), fees, they continued to charge my card even though I cancelled my membership 5 months ago… This place is B.S.

ATTENTION ALL CONSUMERS!!! Do NOT sign up for a membership at ANY Gold’s Gym Locations!!! EVER!!! Do your homework — your will get screwed! It is nearly impossible to get out of the contract, and they will continue to charge your credit card even after you attempt to cancel. Then you will be reported to the credit bureaus, even when you’ve tried to cancel the contract.
Ask around, check with the Ventura County District Attorneys office. Don’t become another victim.

I’ve been going to this gym for about a year now and I feel good every time I walk in the door. The staff is friendly and they all go out of their way to make the members feel welcome.
My trainer, Cody keeps me motivated during my training sessions. My workouts are carefully planned to gradually strengthen my body without re-​injuring my many weaknesses. He knows when to push me and he knows when I need a little breathing space. He makes the workouts fun and even gives me recipes for healthy meals!

I have been a member at this Gold’s Gym since June of 2014 and I love it! The gym is always clean and the facilities are nice and updated. I have never had a problem with billing. Everything was clear and I have not had any surprise charges. I really enjoy the classes (Spin, Body Pump, Body Combat, CXWORX, etc.). While I have remained active the entire time since I joined the gym, I did not see significant results until I signed up for the Challenge and booked sessions with a trainer, Matt Mickey.
After a friend’s recommendation I chose Matt M. to help me through the process and that was the best decision ever! Matt assessed my fitness level and goals and through these created workouts for me, gave me nutritional advice, and showed me how hard I needed to push myself. He also trained me on how to lift and how to use the gym’s equipment. I am now a confident woman when I enter the weights section of the gym.
Matt is not only a very knowledgeable and experienced trainer, but he is really funny. Your muscles may be burning and on the verge of muscle failure, but you will be laughing through it. I highly recommend Matt as a trainer whether you are looking to have a trainer for long term or just need someone to help you get started. I am 33 pounds down and I am fired up to keep going because of him.

CROOKS!!! I have had a very disturbing experience with this particular gym. I had just moved to Thousand Oaks and was looking to join a nearby gym. Gold’s is literally a 5 min walk from my house. The first thing that threw me off was when I was told the membership cost 20 more per month than what my friend was paying at the same gym. Not shady at all… but that’s not the best part. I was attending Oxnard College and playing in a basketball league when I had a serious injury that made it so I couldn’t drive or lift for 3 months. I called and told them what had happened and they said they could freeze my account for $ 8 per month. Great, not a problem. Come back 3 months later to find that they decided to so conveniently not freeze my account and I got charged $ 700 in penalties and fees. Made me pay it and I had to give up all of my financial aid to pay this corrupt business. I now choose to drive more than triple the distance to go to a new gym since these people ripped me off as a young college student. I heavily recommend not choosing this gym!!!

Classes are mediocre but I do like the facility. Kids club is great and I love that you can watch your kids in there. I have had a few miscommunications with kids club staff. And it can be inconvenient to bring your own lock. But it’s a decent place to workout !

I love this gym! Its never too busy, and they keep it very clean. Cody is my trainer and he is the BEST! He really knows what he’s talking about and always gives me great, fun workouts to do. I’ve even lost 10lbs since I’ve started working out with him a few weeks ago! If you’re thinking of joining this gym and finding a trainer, I definitely recommend Cody!

I love my Gold’s Gym! It has everything I need for a great workout. I never have trouble with getting the equipment I need for my workouts. Everyone is very friendly and the classes are great. I love my personal trainer, Ed. He has pushed me to give 110% and has tailored our workouts to maximize our session while working key muscle groups. Ed has also given important nutritional tips to supplement my workout schedule. I am currently on Week 7 of the Gold’s Gym Challenge, and I am confident that I can be in the top 10 with Ed’s help! :)

I’ve been going to this gym since December 2015. I find the gym and locker room/​showers to be clean and well kept up. I was a little skeptical returning to a chain gym after several years of going to bootcamp/​circuit training facilities, but Golds has met my expectations and more.
During my time at the gym I signed up for the Challenge and have taken training sessions with Rob Holder. I decided to take these sessions since I had been a way from a big box gym setting for a while and to re-​familiarize myself with weight training, machines, etc. Immediately, Rob took an interest in wanting me to meet my goals and coming up with a program that would allow me to gain muscle and get leaner. Rob and I have spent a lot of time talking about diet and the proper foods to eat if I want to get to where I want to be. Diet is definitely one of my weaker areas and I feel a lot more knowledgeable about nutrition.
Rob is a very patient, easy going and approachable trainer but he’s not afraid to speak up, provide feedback and corrections if necessary. Its been very easy to schedule sessions with Rob as he’s very accommodating to his clients’ busy lives. He has encouraged me to keep in touch outside of our scheduled sessions and to contact him with any questions at anytime. When doing this, he has always been very responsive, courteous and follows through on what he says he is going to do. Whether you’re new to training or an experienced gym goer looking to take your training to another level, I would definitely recommend Rob as a personal trainer.

Chelsy Swenson is a great Personal Trainer at Gold’s Gym in Thousand Oaks. She personalized the training to fit my fitness goals. Chelsy was excellent in communicating and instructing the proper form of the exercise. I highly recommend Chelsy.

Horrible do not recommend at all. Manager could not care less about what goes on with clients when there is conflicts.

Terrible gym. I have been a customer for a long time now. The customer service is so terrible. People make you promises they never keep. You pay fees and hidden charges for almost anything and when you need those guys once they are not there for you. I was there yesterday when two gentlemen wanted to go into the gym to test it. The lady at the front desk did not let them inside for the weirdest reasons. She was completely unhelpful. I told her to just be a mensch and let them in but she ignored that. I can’t believe that a business operates like this in these days.

I would give this gym 0 stars if I could. There customer service is horrible. The managers are no help. They pressure you to buy training sessions and when you want to cancel the training sessions that you didn’t use they say oh well you still have yo pay and let me tell you they aren’t cheap. It’s over 70 $ per session and it’s only an hour or more like 45 minutes. They really don’t care about want you want to do. Not only that the trainer I signed up with just left me hanging after 2 sessions. Overall I just want to put it out there to everyone who might be considering becoming a member SAVE YOUR MONEY and not only that but this gym is a complete waste of time. I’d rather work out somewhere with better member services that will work with me instead of being rude along with better hours.

My review is predominantly based on Evan Litchfield, my son’s trainer. Working with Evan has been a transformational experience for my 16 year old. Evan is stern and stimulating at the same time. He is very direct, yet considerate and constructive in his feedback. His lesson plans are very personalized and he provides holistic care even on days my son doesn’t train with him, but just does general work out. Within 2 months, his advice has helped my son build (8 — 10 pounds) muscle and endurance. Being vegetarians, his expertise on including right amount of protein with examples based on our dietary restrictions, was extremely useful to supplement my son’s exercise routine with right nutrition.
On the whole, Evan is a wonderful role model for these young boys. He is stellar in his subject matter expertise, productive during every minute of personal training and caring and understanding of his clients and their individual needs and goals.

Most important to me is the cleanliness and the sanitation of a gym, and they do a very good job keeping the equipment as well as the rest of the facility clean and sanitize. I’ve seen them several times take machines apart to do detail sanitizing and cleaning, and there is someone always doing some sort of cleaning.
I haven’t seen issues with machines not working, and the classes they offer always seem full. There are issues with the men’s restrooms fixtures having issues all the time, and there is seems to have issues with the TV portion on the machines not always working properly or have a good picture. I do like the clean towels available and the variety they of equipment they offer. I wish they would offer a etiquette class on how to use the equipment and how to leave them when you are finished. Overall I like this facility!

After a long vigorous workout I decided it is time for a Unilocal review! I’ve been coming here for over six months now and I have to say I do like it. I enjoy being greeted early in the morning and the fresh towels at the front when I first arrive.
However, there could definitely be more stairmasters because it always seems there is a wait for those. There are four stairmasters and most always there’s at least one that’s broken. That’s not enough especially considering they can be a hot commodity during peak hours. Fortunately, I personally arrive here early in the morning so I typically beat the wait for most gym equipment.
The classes are good only I wish they had more of a variety like the downtown location in Los Angeles offers such as p90x and power abs. I understand it’s a smaller gym but those classes are extremely fun! Overall, I give this gym 4 stars for their commitment to excellence, cleanliness, and friendly employees.

I have been going to Golds Gyms for many years now. I used to come to this location a lot in high school and recently have been coming in from time to time.
Although they have a wide variety of equipment to use. The weight lifting machinery could use an update.
I love the cardio cinema and all the cardio equipment they have seems to be more up to date than their weight lifting machinery.
They also have a wide variety of classes for people to choose from.
Overall this is a great and very clean gym.

Avoid this corporate gym. Sold a Black Friday membership paying initiation fees and first and lost months only to be charged again for the next month 4 days later on the first. Their excuse was our billing date is in the 1^st. I let that go. Got harassed and several phone calls to try and do private training. Eventually got fed up and decided to leave the gym. It hey tried charge me an extra $ 200 in bogus cancellation fees that the sales rep lied to me about saying if I pay those fees I’ll be fine to just cancel.
Apparently months later after I have a collection agency, which I’m still dealing with since 2012, calling me for their fees every day. Joined 24 and they’ve been awesome with no BS.
Advice, get your attorney to review your contract with Golds before signing. Their sales reps and customer service is awful. They feed you bogus rather than help.

Golds has good amenities, but the reviews are true about the company giving you the run around and a tough time when trying to cancel memberships. I had a tough time just trying to cancel just the VIP add on. Took me about 3 months of calling/​talking to various employees while still being charged. No wonder there was a class action lawsuit against them recently! Other than horrible customer service, the equipment and facilities are pretty nice. Trainers are awesome. Just make sure you can do the commitment for however long your membership will be. Or opt for the monthly.
I like the indoor pool /​jacuzzi at this location and the cardio cinema. The floor area for stretching and floor exercises is very small and limited. Feels pretty cramped in the locker rooms too.
