Moorpark Auto & Smog

I was referred to these guys from a friend, Jesse, which told me a Nissan specialist he trusted worked their. I brought them my 92 Nissan 300zx which needed lots of work. I talked to art and he was very helpful and gave me a great price and the guys got my car running better then ever.

These guys got my car in and out while I was at a doctor’s appointment next door. They were very accommodating with regards to pricing and extremely friendly.
I’ve gotten a smog check here before as well and experienced the same great customer service then, too.
Update:
When I brought my car here the other day, they got my problem fixed but were unable to get the indicator lights switched off with their scanner. They told me to come back so they could spend more time on it.
I came back today and they worked on it for about a half hour or so, but told me that I would have to take it to BMW to get the indicator lights switched off.
I took it to BMW and of course they said that I should take it back to the shop that serviced it and have them do it properly. But who could really blame them? I felt embarrassed having to go to BMW in the first place after having my car serviced elsewhere.
Needless to say, while I’m happy they took care of the main issue, I won’t be taking my car here anymore.
Update 10÷14÷15:
I brought my car in today and they were able to get both indicator lights turned off. They called me repeatedly, borderline harrassed me, after seeing my above update to my review in order to rectify the situation.
Someone else with the same car brought their car in and they ran into the same issue. From there, they called BMW to find out what may be the issue and they said that they needed to download a software to re-​calibrate their scanner or something like that, and typically charge about $ 150 for the service. They ended up purchasing the software for their scanner, and made sure to mention to me that «it cost them quite a bit».
In any case, I’m satisfied they made the effort to make things right with me. However, it is unfortunate that it took for them to receive a negative Unilocal review in order to provide decent customer service.
Also, the owner asked me to completely delete my negative review which I also felt uncomfortable about because I felt the public deserved to hear the whole story before deciding to do business with them.
When you tell someone you specialize in European cars, you don’t work on their car and then send them to the dealership when you can’t figure out what’s wrong, then make them come back to fix your error and then make them feel responsible that you had to purchase something for YOUR business to help your business do a satisfactory job.

Sorry about the bad experiences others had. I stopped in by chance to put air in my tires. I was so impressed by the young man’s professionalism — (and the fact he looked so young), I actually asked his
name. It is Andrew and he is a new manager. Ended up getting an oil change, brakes checked. Never got hustled and prices were fair. I’m certainly coming back

Guys, I really don’t enjoy writing poor reviews at all, because I know that everybody has their off-​days, but Good Lord was this a horrible experience. I set up an appointment a half-​week in advance. I get there, and they can’t tend to me right away, which isn’t a big deal in and of itself. So they eventually check my brakes, and tell me that I’m in dire need of new brakes, nice, let’s get that quote. The quote which, mind you, was written on a Leon’s Transmissions note. That should have been a warning. But I didn’t see that over the estimated $ 850 that he was trying to charge for two brake jobs, and two entirely unrelated repairs that they shouldn’t have even checked for.
So I go ahead and let the guy know that I have a spending limit on my card, so I can not pay for all of this. The guy was initially nice enough to let me use a coupon for the brake service to lower the overall to about $ 700. So I tell him that I can only do one side and will have to come back another day for the other…
Long story, I waited a while for my Rear Brakes to be replaced, which he quoted at $ 200. I thought, «not a bad price, compared to the $ 400 he was trying to charge me for the fronts.» So he eventually finished, and tried to charge me $ 425 for the service. I told him that the total should be $ 225, like we agreed. He said that he made a mistake and that the rears should have been $ 400, not $ 200. So I told him again that that was out of my price range, and we already agreed on it for that very reason. She he kept telling me that I «wasn’t listening» when I completely understood what he was trying to do, go back on his agreement. He told me that I can’t leave without paying him, or else he’s going to put my okd brakes back on and keep the new ones, so I said, «Go ahead then!» Apparently this was a bluff, because he didn’t want to. He said that he will, but charge me $ 100 for the labor, to which I said, «No! We agreed upon the $ 200, you made the mistake, not me. If you want to take the brakes back, fine, but I am not paying you labor. I will pay for the oil change only!» And he assured me I was, and guess what I didn’t do in the end? He was cussing me out in his language, and his employees were flipping me off, but hey, act like a manchild when you mess up rather than owning up to your mistakes and that’s what happens. He banned me from the shop. Believe the hype, this place is horrible.

Beware of this place. I took my car here for an oil change after seeing an absurdly low price for oil changes in a coupon book. It turned out to be only for conventional oil. My vehicle works best with synthetic oil, and the charge for that was no different from any other place around here.
When I decided to leave, the technician tried to prevent that by reassuring me that he could still do the oil change for the advertised cost, with conventional oil. This was after he had already agreed that the car needed synthetic oil. It seemed unprofessional of him to go back on his own recommendation, and I’m pretty sure that could have damaged my engine.

Cleaning out my desk and came across the points and condenser they claimed came out of my distributor. Worn generic points separate condenser.
Know for a fact I had an Accel uni-​set.
These guys are incompetent and dishonest.

I would skip this place if I were you. Definitely not very professional

This place is wonderful! Brought my car in for a smog check and was so happy with the service, I came back the next day with my husbands car for an oil change. Art is very nice and helpful!

Love this auto shop! Art is always cheaper on price then all of the other quotes. Victor really knows everything about cars. We are a four (used) car family and always are in need of a deal. They have never done us wrong. They are fast, reliable, and honest!!!

The guys were hanging out in the garage. We approached and he said he would meet us over at the shack in the back. The store front is separate from the gas station. There is a small covered waiting area next to the shack. We went to get snacks and stood in the shade waiting.
There was no wait to get service, we just dropped in and gave our keys and the guy took care of the smog check for the truck in 20 min.
The service was meh, he wasn’t «rude» but it also wasn’t with a smile. I guess when mechanics double as cashier it’s to be expected.
My only complaint really is the price. I guess when you’re in a time crunch, beggars cant be choosers. It was the closest smog check place, but not my go to spot.

These guys are rude… I called in ahead of time to check if they were free to bring my car in for smog check. Upon confirming that they could take me in right away I went there. Getting there he tell me I had to wait ½ hour as he was going to have is lunch. I reminded him that I called in and he said I could come in right away and there was no wait. He then asks me «what’s the problem»… I don’t have a problem, I could have a waited a few minutes but to have that kind of attitude, it ticked me off. There are many other places I could take my car for smog. Don’t need to deal with such attitude…

I got totally ripped off by these guys. $ 600 to replace an EGR valve ($ 50 part) and $ 600 more to fix overheating issue only to overheat to the point of killing the engine on Thanksgiving weekend. Man, I wish I had read the other reviews. I never would have had them touch it.

Charged me 500 $ for parts they said were new. Replaced my existing parts with old parts from junk yard and charged me for new overpriced parts. Also told me my oil and fuel filter was old and needed to be changed. I just replaced it the week before. Got my issues fixed from the dealership and it ended up being half price. Don’t recommend these guys what so ever.
These guys are the reason mechanics get a bad reputation. Huge scam artists.

I’ve been going to Moorpark Auto since 2008 and have never had anything but positive things to say about this place. Paying dealership prices or corporate establishment labor fee’s became out of the question. I found this private party shop that does great quality work at private party prices.
Expect a friendly, hard working group of guys that know how to fix any issue with a vehicle. Art has always matched any price and made sure that the job is done right the first time.
If you need a quick oil change or more complicated work to be done and are on a budget then this is your place.

Shady owner neglected to inform me there would be a diagnostic fee and had me sign a blank order form to look at my car. Within five minutes he called to tell me he couldn’t see inside the engine because there was oil in the way and he wanted $ 90 to steam clean under the hood. I said no thanks and went to pick it up, and he then wrote on my order form all kinds of things I had not ordered. It took a police officer to come and I brought a witness who saw the blank order form when we left that had been filled in later by the owner. I was forced to pay a $ 65 diagnostic fee I never agreed to pay just to get my car back, even though he openly admitted he couldn’t perform a diagnosis because they couldn’t see inside past the oil. I also found out the engine had been steam cleaned just before I bought it, less than a week before this guy claimed he couldn’t see enough to make a diagnosis. Never ever go here. They should go to jail for this scam. I’ve never been asked to sign a blank form, was never given a receipt, no service was performed and I had to call the police to get my car back for $ 65 instead of the $ 2000 he estimated in repairs for a car he claimed he couldn’t diagnose. I believe his name was Moses? Stay away. Precision auto in Thousand Oaks was everything this place was not.

These people are straight up CRIMINALS. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE!
Yesterday I patroned the Valero gas station service center with my newly purchased 2000 toyota solara.
I explained to the mechanic working (named art) that my car seems to be leaking a little bit of oil, and I aslo needed a smog check so I can register my new vehicle.
Art had me sign a piece of paper that had ZERO prices, parts, or anything on it and asked me to leave the car for a while… He told me he would call me with some answers and wouldn’t do anything to the car until he contacted me.
I left the car and received a call from Art no more than 30 minutes later. He was telling me that my car needed a $ 90 engine pressure wash, $ 900 worth of struts and even after all of that– he would still need to diagnose the car to see where the leak was coming from, and how serious the situation was.
I told him to hold off and I would come retrieve my car ASAP. (Meanwhile I called about 5 other shops who insisted that pressure washing the engine is a $ 40 job and to leave valero before I get ripped off by these people.)
I arrived at Valero to pick up my car and was greeted by Art. He had the same paper I had signed but this time he had filled out TONS of itemized expenses and he would NOT let me leave without paying for a $ 70 diagnostic fee that I NEVER agreed to pay — AND HE DIDN’T EVEN DIAGNOSE ANY PROBLEMS!!!
After the police were called and we were well on our way — we took it to a more reputable mechanic shop…
The first thing my new mechanic said when they popped the hood was that it was VERY clear that the previous owners of the car I just purchased had ALREADY pressure washed the engine. My engine is clean!!! It’s totally unnecessary to pressure wash a CLEAN engine and for $ 90!!!
get real. It is obvious that these people are shady as hell, and are irresponsibly ripping people off left and right.
so in the end I payed this dick, art $ 70 for his advice to get my already cleaned engine pressure washed. My car is still not right and this guy is still in business blatantly being dishonest and ripping people off.
BEWARE OF ART AND THE VALERO GAS STATION!!!
I will never do business with these people again, and if I had any spare time I would camp outside their shop warning every single customer coming in for oil changes, smog checks, or any other mechanical bullshit of the shadiness of this business.

Please ignore the incomprehensive statement below because they obviously did not understand the problem that had happened. This very humble and respectable family did an amazing job fixing my BMW and I have no complaints after the process my car went through. they weree quick and efficient with their work. Not to mention, the owner and his son are very friendly dudes along with the rest of the employees. I would highly suggest this auto-​repair company for those who need a quality fix.
