VC Defense

Visited VC Defense for the first time today to begin transfer of a firearm I bought online via GunBroker. It was initially very busy in the store, being a Saturday, but everyone behind the counter made an effort to let me know they’d be with me shortly. I witnessed a private party/​private party transfer and the sale of AR parts, both of which were handled with evident knowledge and professionalism. As my interest lies in older collectibles, I can’t speak to the store’s inventory as it is primarily modern semi-​automatic guns and parts, They would seem to have a fair selection, however, and exhibited a willingness to help obtain whatever a customer might seek. The transfer was my first in a very long time, and care was taken to ensure I understood all of the paperwork I was required to complete. The item I purchased included the original box, paperwork and accessories, and VCD demonstrated an understanding of the value of these items relative to the weapon and made effort to preserve them. I appreciate that their transfer prices were fair, and the service excellent. Overall, this was a very smooth transaction (beginning with VCD’s rapid response in providing their FFL to the selling party), and I would not hesitate to again use VCD to handle future transactions/​purchases.

Put together a 80% ar. John and the other guy (did not Catch his name) were super friendly and gave me all the different options available. Now that my AR is all put together I went out and shot it. Oh boy shoots like a dream. Can’t say enough positive words about these gentlemen. If you’re going to build a lower or 80% at this is the place to go you won’t be disappointed!

Gun store on a pedestrian-​friendly street… ABOUT DAMN TIME.
I looked around and pleasurably killed an hour while getting new tires across the street.

I was referred to VC defense by a friend. I’ve been to all the local gun shops in Simi but decided to head over to VC defense to check them out. The guy that helped me was super friendly. Although the shop is smaller than other shops in Simi they were able to order the handgun that I wanted and had it delivered to their shop in 4 days. It was also cheaper than any price that I was quoted at any other stores! I picked up my new handgun a few days ago and John the owner was also very friendly during pick up. I will definitely use them again in future!

Very rude. We were initially excited about a firearms store finally opening up in Thousand Oaks but, unfortunately, we will still be driving to Simi Valley and out of the area with our business. I called and had a few questions to ask and was told that the conversation was too long and should have been a 2 minute question rather than a 5 minute question. Well with questions about guns and laws and customer service the business should take their time in answering and explaining. Also-​the employee that spoke to me was trying to be helpful and the owner took the phone from him and was somewhat annoyed from the start. As a woman calling I felt like I was «bothering him» (the owner). Would NOT recommend this gun store if you need any information or want to make an informative decision in reference to gun ownership. Will be buying our guns elsewhere where there the «sales» a actually that and they have a better inventory. Extremely rude.

I love this shop! I have been in here a few times now and each time John and Micah are both very friendly and knowledgable. If they don’t have what you want in stock they will do what the can to order it for you. I will gladly buy more from them. Thank you for bringing a gun shop into our town.

They are great. Very busy, but friendly as possible about it. Just be patient when they are busy. They also will take appointmetns for people who need more time.
Be wary of reviews that promote other shops in SIMI and don’t have a history of past reviews. I recently bought a sig 1911 at Gretas, and now see it for almost $ 200 less here.
They built a custom ar10 for me, and because they weren’t busy when I picked it up, they spent an extra hour installing and adjusting a new scope for me as well. Can’t wait to go back for my ar10 pistol build.

They had everything I needed in 1 shop. I try and support local business as much as I can. Small yes, but they had what the other guys didn’t. I will continue to give them business, as the employees were very friendly and helpful. Thanks guys and keep up the good work!

Great prices and customer service from VC defense. Despite being extremely busy as all shops are now, they are very attentive to everyone who walks in. They have a large selection of Parts and accessories for such a small shop. Call to make an appointment for personal one on one service.

When I first heard VC defense was making a permanent stay in my city I couldn’t have been happier.
As a thousand oaks resident I was intrigued to have a establishment like this in the city and was even more impressed when I entered the store and was greeted by the friendly staff Micah and John.
My first time there was to simply ask a few questions as a novice enthusiast and the staff behind the counter were patient and willing to answer even my most basic questions. They also helped me find a good instructor to teach me more about the firearm I would be purchasing in the future.
When I returned to the shop to purchase my gun I was greeted by the same guys and even though it was busy they did a great job at engaging the customer and making the purchase very pleasant. The prices were good and I was happy to hear they still had a good deal of inventory left as well as accessorie, safes, travel cases and more.
My overall impressions are that this is a fantastic business and great experience. I will continue coming back to support this local establishment.

I visit family in Thousand Oaks often and when I’m in town I always stop by this shop to see what’s new.
I have been going to John’s shop since he opened roughly a month and a half ago.
John has one employee, Micha who is nothing short of a rockstar.
VC Defense has been around for a few years however prior to John opening this shop he ran his business by apt only out of his house.
In the several times I have been in store I have had wonderful experiences, whether John or Micha helped me.
The shop is on the smaller side but packed to the brim with inventory. Surprisingly they stock a wide assortment of 80% (80 percent) lowers and tons of AR, AR-​15, and AR-​10 parts. They also have a ton of regular hand guns and long guns (rifles and shotguns).
Every time I’ve been in the shop the guys have been crazy busy. They happened to open right after the San Bernardino terrorist attack so people are flocking in to buy stuff.
This doesn’t effect the quality customer service. John wants to help every customer. He tries to engage every customer And let them know their business is important. It is clear he doesn’t want people to have to wait extended periods of time to be helped.
He’s answered phone calls when I’ve been in there but that doesn’t take away from the quality customer service for the folks in the shop.
I’ve purchased several guns here and tons of parts and will continue to do so, the prices here are beyond exceptional. I think that despite being understaffed that both John and Micha are both very attentive to every customer that walks in the door.

This place is a joke. Very small and an absolutely disappointing inventory.
More importantly, the guy who I assume is the owner is very rude. He wouldn’t speak with me because he was walking around on his cell phone with what sounded like a buddy.
Furthermore, his «Sale» prices aren’t that great, I’m sure you can get a better deal just about anywhere.
Finally, as an avid gun collector myself, and someone who has a little more gun knowledge than the average consumer–
I would strongly recommend driving 20 minutes in any direction to Turners, Greta’s or just about any other gun store within a 50 mile radius before you visit these guys.

So, I’ve been to this place twice, looking to purchase the latest edition to my collection. And each time, have been greeted by who I believe to the shop owner. Each time I have been there, he is on the phone, and completely rude to the customers. Even though they are the «only shop in town» they won’t be for long, and customer service is key in the world of small business. So, if your in the market for a gun, or parts, there are much better places within a 20 minute drive that have extensive collections of parts and weapons. They have roughly 15 guns on «sale» and on display here. I would highly recommend searching elsewhere.
Simply put, be nice and respectful of the people who walk in the door, and people would be more than willing to spend their money. Your in the right town for that, your just doing it wrong.
Try Turners, Greta’s or anywhere else!

I have been dealing with John for at least 4 – 5 years. Fair and understanding of customer wants and needs. Good prices too! Can’t say enough positive words about his character and ethics.80% lower builds he has you covered top to bottom. Custom orders 100% handled with fast service and continuous communication on lead and delivery time! This is a a win win gun shop. You won’t be disappointed as I have sent close to 20 people here and all thanked me for the heads up.

Nothing but positive words about VC Defense. John the owner is a very fair and understanding guy, prices are very competitive but also not overpriced. Being the only gun shop in Thousand oaks I see nothing but positive things to come in the future for the shop. Bought several boxes of ammo here as well as built my custom Ar-​15 which John helped me through from beginging to end. Thanks again for the awesome customer service

VC Defense opened recently in Thousand Oaks, and is the only gun store in town. John is the owner, a really great guy.
