It all started in 1976 when dad bought an old 36′ Chris-​Craft. From the moment he first let me take the helm, I knew my life would be spent on the water… Summers and weekends were spent aboard the «Hawk Aye.» Crabbing and fishing on the Chesapeake Bay are some of my greatest childhood memories.

Through the years, there have always been boats in my life. It didn’t matter what kind of boat. Some were power, the others were sail. Just being able to be on the water was most important.

I earned my USCG Captain’s License in 1990 and became serious about making boating my career. My experiences include running sport fishing charters out of San Diego on a 46′ Egg Harbor and hosting VIP’s on a spectator boat during the 1992 America’s Cup Campaign.

Now I find myself in San Francisco aboard a beautiful 41′ Hunter out of the port of Sausalito. Come aboard Hawks Nest for a great experience on the water.

Captain Mike took a group of four of us on an afternoon sail around the bay. Couldn’t have been any better. His boat is beautiful, and matches his knowledge and hospitality. He accommodated all of our requests for food and refreshments, and even picked up some champagne and a birthday cake for us! I’m from Tiburon and plan to sail with him again for myself and visiting guests.

I had researched several sailing charters before deciding to go with Mike and Allie primarily because of Mike’s boating history being so similar to my husband’s. We are weekly inland houseboaters, but had never tried sailing. It was a wonderful experience and is completely different than motor boating. Despite the lack of a strong breeze, Mike and Allie were able to keep the 4 hour trip moving right along. My husband did get to sail the boat which was great. I would recommend that if you plan to take photos with your phone, get some sort of lanyard. It is clearly really easy to drop it into the water especially from the back seat. Also, the sound on video recording will be greatly affected by wind noise. I’m not sure if there is a trick for that. Thanks for a great day!

My fiancé and I joined a group of friends aboard Hawks Nest for an amazing trip through the bay chartered by Capt. Mike and Allie… Who I must add are the most incredible hosts! The boat was stocked with wine & beer and the h’orderves and food was great and they were willing to cater to our taste of music, but the Bob Marley, Jack Johnson and cool island tunes they had playing were perfect for our amazing charter! Definitely recommend Hawks Nest!

We topped off our recent team building session with a PHENOMENAL sailing trip. Mike and Allie were super hospitable, knowledgeable and FUN!!! They provided a great overview of the sights as well as some great sailing tips and tricks.
I will be booking them again for team builders and for personal trips around the Bay!

Best Part of our San Francisco Vacation Trip was sailing with Captain Mike and his first mate, Allie.
They took our family including our three sons on a tour of the Golden Gate bridge, ate dinner in McCovey Cove while watching the Jumbotron at AT&T Park and caught the most beautiful sunset all while Mike and Allie told us fun stories about the area and sailing in general. Allie took lots of pictures of our family that will be treasures for a lifetime.
We highly recommend you book a sailing adventure with them. Our sons, ages 16, 18 and 21 said it was the best vacation adventure ever! Worth every penny! Don’t miss this adventure when you are in the San Francisco area.

Outstanding. Same exact response from my client and colleagues on the boat. Great hospitality and local knowledge on a great Friday evening sail. Some good westerly wind got us all in the mood and when the wind died down, out cam the fabulous appetizers and drinks. Mike and Ally are just fun to be with and I cannot wait for the next time we get sail with them. Or even hang with them. Awesome experience

We had family in town from the East Coast and wanted to make sure they had an especially good time in the Bay Area. Capt. Mike and Allie are great hosts and we had a fantastic day of sailing on the SF Bay. We had a large group with kids and adults. Mike and Allie made sure everyone was safe and happy and we that we all had a great time. So much so in fact, our guests proclaimed that ‘this was the best day of 2015 so far.’ Thanks Mike and Allie for a great time. Can’t wait to get back on the boat again.

Capt. Mike and Allie got us incredible front row seats to the San Francisco fireworks display on the Fourth of July. We set sail from Tiburon, sailed close to Angel Island and Sausalito and then got up close to he SF barges that ran the fireworks display. It was incredible. Our boys had a great time. Capt MIke and Allie were gracious hosts, helping us stay warm, take cool photographs and make great memories. Oh, and they mix a mean margarita.

We took a sailing trip with Mike and Allie for our daughters 15th birthday and they were great. Their boat, the hawks nest, is beautiful and well kept. They were informative, knowledgeable, friendly, and fun! They showed our kids the ropes and let our daughter take the wheel while sailing. We couldn’t have asked for more. Also, they put a great lunch time spread together for us. I highly recommend them if you are looking for a beautiful sailing trip out on the bay.

Captain Mike and his beautiful First-​mate Allie, took us on a wonderful sailing adventure to Angel Island where we docked the boat and toured the historic island. Both, Mike and Allie, taught us so much about the area and the history of the island.
The food and beverage was terrific, boat is Awesome and the crew is FUN!

If you are looking for a GREAT ESCAPE around the SF Bay, this is the charter company to choose. This is a unique and fun way to see the city. We had such a wonderful experience with Mike and Allie, talk about amazing service and fun! They truly make your charter a success with getting close to all of the main sites. They took us to see the Golden Gate, Alcatraz, an amazing view of the city, and they took our pictures along the way! I truly don’t have one negative thing to say about our charter experience and I look forward to sending many friends to Great Escape Charters for a three-​hour tour! Oh, and I will be back to visit again!

The boat is spectacular, the food and libations seem endless and having Mike and Ally at the helm just makes the whole experience a total blast. Something super important to me is knowing that the skipper and first mate are competent and capable. You have that with Mike and Ally!

Spent a day on the bay with 5 friends under the care of Mike and Allie. By the end of the day, we were all friends with Mike and Allie too. Great hosts and experienced sailors, they treated us to endless snacks and wine (ok… we might have brought some of our own liquids as well) and a fantastic day around the bay from the ballpark to the Golden Gate. The boat is comfortable with a spacious cockpit and Mike is happy to let you take the helm. We will definitely be back.

The sailing trip with Mike and Allie was THE highlight of our west coast vacation. They are very knowledgeable, friendly, accommodating, and fun! We knew that we were in good hands from the moment that we met them at the dock. It was breathtaking to see the local attractions from the water.
