DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!!
as an update to my review of john day construction, my roof is now leaking and damage to my property has been done because of john day construction’s lack of ethics, morals, integrity and incompetence. he has breached our contract. i will now have to find another, this time reliable company to do the work, before my house is further damaged. as to mr. day, i have already had other roofing companies to examine the mess he left me and the shoddy and incompetent workmanship is appalling. they did not do what they were supposed to do and have refused to honor their warranty mr. day has victimized many others as is represented by the comments on Unilocal herein. i will be filing complaints with all pertinent consumer protection agencies, contact the senior abuse hotline and plan to take legal action against john day construction for a full refund of my $ 850.00. this guy needs to stop ripping off people and breaching contracts. initial action to protect my legal rights has already begun. john day has no shame, taking advantage of customers, ripping people off and his actions fall under special circumstances as i am a disabled senior citizen and a brain tumor survivor.

I hired Good life construction a few months ago to replace windows, doors and dry rot, They did an AMAZING job… Not only was the price good but they were able to start the job few days after I approved the estimate. Dimitri and his guys were very polite, always at the jobsite and kept everything clean. The job was done exactly on time. I will highly recommend Good life construction to anyone. Thank you, thank you and THANK YOU!!!

I got my roof serviced via the Living Social total roofing tune-​up promotion for the $ 75.00. John arrived about 30 minutes late. When he got there he was very nice and seemed very knowledgeable. I was very disappointed, however that what was supposed to be a $ 75 roof turned up turned into $ 500 in repairs. I was very apprehensive but he insisted my roof was in bad condition. For major repairs I usually get 3 bids minimum. I asked if I could pay by credit card as advertised on his site and he said it wasn’t working and I needed to make out the check directly to him. Seems to me like he needed the money. Anyhow, I feel like I paid more than I should of for the work that he did but most importantly I feel like the Living Social deal was a scam. I’m sure he did a good job on the work that he performed in the 2 hours he was there but I am very disappointed that the deal turned out to be a hoax and I felt pressured into paying for $ 500 for the work.

I’m totally surprised by all the negative reviews. We are first time home owners and couldn’t have asked for better service. They are honest, punctual and do wonderful work. I actually text John, to thank him, every time I pull up to our house when it’s raining.

Paint job ended up was great but the prep up work was the worst! They smashed a tail gate that my husband had in the backward right into my husbands classic soon to be restored to cars windshield. I contracted John (the dad) and John (the son) and they accused us of doing this to the car and tried to wipe their hands clean. Now this is a direct insult being that they claim to be honest and full of integrity. They have been lying to me saying that they will pay for the windshield and bring me a check. This has been going on since December. It is now going into April and no check! No call back!
These people (owners)come and collect the money from you for the job and are present there at the job until they get the money and leave. but when you need you’re money back after they damaged personal things they disappear and never make right!
I am not happy, I would recommend that EVERYONE pull reviews and reports before considering them. They also picked up workers from Home Depot the last day of the job– the guys told me that they didn’t know the owners and that they were hired the day of to do our job. This is not professional, not licensed workers or insured I suppose. Major risk!!! After reading other reviews I feel like I am not alone
They still have not dropped off check as promised, so embarrassed for this company

I too purchased the Living Social roof tune up deal.
John Sr came out the day I called — Took pictures of «my» roof and told me there was major repair that needed to be done but I didn’t need a new roof.- the estimate was $ 1,500. To be fair I did think that I need «some» work but wasn’t counting on $ 1,500. He was such a smooth talker and was kind enough to lower the amount to $ 1,200 instantly.
After talking a bit more I explained I was looking for a reputable contractor as I had a number of very large projects I was going to do — he dropped the cost to $ 1,000 and said they’d begin working immediately.
He had a worker with him and John proceeded to tell me all about this guy and how he «saved» him and continued to talk about how he is a Godly and a honorable man.
I bought it hook line and sinker!
He told me that there’s a warranted and he’d come back next year to tune it up.
They were done in less than an hour — I handed him my check and off they went. It was only then that I realized the Fast Talker didn’t bother to give me an invoice to show the work that he had done. He RAN to the bank to cash my check within 20 minutes of leaving my house.
I have contacted him over the past 3 months asking for a invoice or receipt and either get no response or a promise that I’ll have it the next day. It seems that this is a father/​son business and John Sr blames his son for lack of communication.
I tried to have him do the «right thing» and not to resort to a bad review but he truly is not reputable in any way. *** beware ****
My next steps is to hire a roofing company — see what he did if anything for my $ 1,000 and document with actual pictures of MY roof. If the work is not as expected or I need additional work then I will do what I need to, to get my money back.
Those of you who got away with «only» paying $ 800 — you’re the lucky ones!

We also purchased the roof tune-​up on Living Social. John missed his first appointment with me, but did finally come and repair the leak in our roof. I was so happy! BUT, the next rain came and the roof leaked. This was nearly two months ago. My phone calls and emails went unanswered. We finally set up a date for him to repair the roof (he was so adamant about how they stand behind their work) … and he didn’t show up! We set another appointment, confirmed by email … and he didn’t show up again.
I’ve decided to cut my losses and find a reliable roofer who could fix the leak the he repaired inadequately. I also plan to file a report with the Better Business Bureau.

BEWARE !!!
Came to «tune up» my roof, then sold me on $ 400 of repairs with pix that may not have even been my roof, the rains came and my roof leaked !
Spent last 10 days trying to get him to schedule a repair and he is still trying to «squeeze me in» ??
He’s either a Liar or he has a lot of botched repairs he will more than likely never make good on !!!

As indicated by so many other Living Social complaints, I have to add my name to the growing list. We paid $ 100 for the roof tune up and an extra $ 800 for the repairs ‘out of the scope’ only to find out that our roof had the same leak this past week in the same locations where they had said the problem would have been solved with my $ 800 dollar repair. I tried to call them — never could get through. Left messages to have them return my call. Never did. The gutters were also supposed to have been cleaned and sealed with the tune up special. Nope! We had an additional leak in another part of the house because of clogged gutters. Dang it all. These guys are jerks and rip-​offs.
I CAN however recommend HOYT roofing in Anaheim. They came out one day after our most recent leak. Fixed the issue, charged a LOT less, and left me feeling confident that our issue is now resolved.

I got the LivingSocial deal and had to leave multiple messages to set up an appointment but I never received a response. I finally got a response after sending him an email. I had an appointment between 12−5pm and John was a no show/​no call. After, leaving more messages and still no reply from john, I decided to get a refund from LivingSocial. Horrible customer service!

Mr. Day showed up at my house on time and prepared to do the roof inspection that I had purchased through Amazon Local. He replaced a few shingles that were lifting and then recommended that we fix the flashing around my chimney and repair a roof gutter (valley) that was digging into the attic. I agreed. He was a very nice man and he agreed that my roof was in great condition. Before he left I asked him to provide me with something I could give to my insurance to show them my roof was in great condition, so that they would cover the roof again. I never heard back from him. I have called him multiple times and left messages and emailed him but still 6 months after the service was performed, he refuses to call me back.
Mr. Day seems like a nice business man, but the more I read reviews of his services from here and other sites I am discovering that his lack of response to previous customers is the norm and NOT the exception. All I needed was a letter from Mr. Day stating what he told me when he was at my house and this would have been all A’s and B’s, instead he get’s D’s and F’s for the lack of responsiveness. I would find another contractor if I had to do this again.

Living Social Deal for $ 79 @
Yesterday I got a Living Social Deal emailed to me by a friend who knew I needed to have my roof checked. There is a little area that needs to be «Re-​Flashed»
I emailed «John Day General Contractor» and asked him if would also be able to install
a Solar Attic Fan that I already purchased myself.,
He emailed me back telling me that he had a $ 400 special on this including installation. I emailed him again and told him I already! bought one myself and needed a quote for just the installation, I knew this was NOT included with the Living Social Deal.
He emailed me back with … ” unless you already purchased the coupon that deal is no longer running please let me know if this helps thank you“
I went online and bought the Deal anyway …
After buying the Livings Social Deal. I felt a little weird about his response telling me it was no longer available…
I decided to do some research and checked these reviews on Unilocal.
Glad that I had 7 days to get a refund. As good as the $ 79 Tune-​Up deal sounds, I guess I have to let it pass and find a roofer/​contractor that has better responses that a few happy people about his services
Sounds like another business that either got to busy (for follow up service) or use this as a paid Service Call to come out to our house and try to sell you some mote services & repairs

I would go with another contractor if you have a choice. I had John come out to get me an estimate on some roof repair I did. He was scheduled for 10am and showed up past noon. Which threw off my other schedules of contractors I had lined up to come out. The good thing is he was prepared and did bring his own ladder and flashlight which most of the other roofing contractors didn’t do.
He did sort of look at my roof. He didn’t go into the crawl space, but he did poke his head through the opening. He told me what needed to be done. I asked for an estimate and he was afraid to give me one. He said he didn’t want to misquote me and that the price of wood has gone up so it might in fact be lower now and he would have to go back to the office to check. I said ok let’s say it’s not lower and just give me the estimate for wood at today’s price. So he gave me his quote which is probably on the high end just so he doesn’t have to make an increase later on.
He said he would email me the exact quote that day when he got back to the office. After several days, I called and he said he is on his way back to the office now and he’ll send it. After a couple more days I called again and he said he was on his way back to the office and he’ll send it right away, sounds familiar.
So in the end I what I took away is that he’s a few hours late and doesn’t follow though. It’s also very hard for me to get a hold of him. Most of the time I call it goes straight to voice mail so there was no communication. I left voice mails, but again no return calls. So sad because he was really nice and I would have loved for him to do the work. I would have also loved to write a strong 5 star review instead of this. Pretty disappointed in him.

Sorry to resort to this — I’ve tried for two months to get John Day back out to my home to fix a leaky roof (he came out in April to repair the roof but after $ 750 it did not work and the roof still leaks as badly as before).
Update (8÷15÷14): So shortly after I posted a negative review, I was contacted by the company. John (very apologetic) came out last week and re-​repaired the roof. At this point I’m a little leery about updating the review (until I see how the roof performs in the rain) but I’ll go with four stars. Maybe I’ll just have to drag a hose up there and check it out for myself… stay tuned.

My husband and I found John Day Construction through a living social coupon to do a roof tune-​up and inspection.
John Day Sr. and his contractor arrived on time and was incredibly professional and knowledgable. We knew we had roof issues found in the recent inspection report prior to closing so we hired him to further inspect and do the roof tune-​up. He was able to readily identify all issues, explain using pictures and do the remedial repairs that same day at a competitive price. We also had some issues with leaks from the recent storm and they reviewed the issue and determined it was due an missing caulk on the window. Even though this window repair was outside of his scope he repaired it as a favor to us.
Overall, he was fantastic to work with! Very pleasant, reliable and gave incredible service. I was so thankful to find such a quality contractor on living social!

John Day Sr came here to check on my roof and give me an estimate. He then gave me an offer that was reasonable.
I said yes to his offer knowing that he will guarantee his work for 3 years and that he was even willing to paint the stain on my ceiling caused by the roof leak.
He was done in just a little over an hour and I was really glad I went with my gut to have him fix my roof.
He is a good man with a good heart and I highly recommend him to everyone.

The most important part for me when using a contractor, is will their response to a problem. We developed a leak from his previous work. He sent a crew out immef innately to be this current storm. No leaks. Very happy. From price to performance as promised, to follow up when necessary. I would highly recommend this company.

For a living social deal, John Day Sr and his contractor, Brent, stopped by this morning to look at my roof .
The living social deal includes basic roof recovery for 10 shingles or 5 tiles. This deal was perfect because my neighbor pointed out that some of my tiles were loose. However, since the tarp was exposed for 1 – 2 years (which I wasn’t aware of), the plywood was visible at 3 locations. This was not included in the living social deal. John was able to draw up a competitive quote, that I agreed to, and started working immediately.
John was 5 minutes earlier than the appointed time at 10am and was done by noon. Great job and detailed explanations on the work required. I was educated and comforted with the work completed. Part of the work agreement was that John or one of his team members will come back in a year to check on the workmanship.
Perfect timing since there is the storm coming to Southern California,

Absolutely horrible and I give them ZERO stars even though I cannot «Post» unless I give them one star. I ordered a voucher for a Roof Tune Up because I bought a home and needed maybe four to six shingles replaced and wanted it done before we could expect any rain. I left five messages before getting a call back to schedule. After finally getting a call back from an older gentleman who said he would be the one to come out. He scheduled, without my knowing, his son, to come out just over three weeks later. The morning of my long awaited appointment one man called to confirm and another called to reschedule, said he would call first thing Monday. I advised of our work schedules saying my husband is home first by 3:00 and he asked if he could get home any earlier. He seriously expected my husband to leave work early to accommodate his need to reschedule.
Monday came and went, no call. On Tuesday I left two messages in the morning (at each cell phone number I was given) and two late afternoon/​early evening. No call back from either. Wednesday I called both numbers again in the morning as well as late afternoon/​early evening. No calls back. Today is Thursday and keep in mind it poured on Wednesday. I am sick to my stomach over their horrible customer service and the fact that they cannot return any of my phone calls. Their name IS the name of the business and don’t perform which is mind blowing. I feel like I have been scammed and can’t wait for the refund of my money that I paid well over a month ago. Me needing to make 15 calls is beyond excessive.
I would not recommend this company to anybody. I would say stay far away and spend your money at a company who has the common courtesy to simply call you back.
