UCode

As of this writing my son hasn’t attended anything at Ucode. We signed him up for 2 separate weeks of camp this summer ($ 389 each). After discussing the Computer Building camp more with him he was no longer interesting in attending. I called billing to cancel The August first class and was told that they would refund $ 289. When asked why not the full amount they said that there was a $ 100 non-​refundable deposit. As I couldn’t find that on the website I asked where that is stated. They told me that they mention this in the «Terms of Service» which is at the bottom of the sign-​up sheet and you need to click on it to read through multiple paragraphs.
I take responsibility for not reading the Terms of Service. However, I am giving them one star because I feel that putting important information like that in the «small print» is akin to hiding it. We will still be having my son attend the other class as I don’t want to lose another $ 100.

Ucode is very good place for kids to learn coding!
Many excellent programs. The staff are great and helpful for my son. They explain the concepts easily to understand and now my son who is a12 year old boy can creat his own website by himself!

Since posting my original review – which was also 5-​stars thanks to UCode’s exceptional educational value but which knocked their corporate office for various business issues – I’m happy to report that their corporate office has reached out to me and solicited my detailed thoughts on where I think their business operations fall short and how they can improve. Already their support ticket system is vastly improved, and they promise more improvements are on the way, many the direct result of customer feedback.
So, it would appear that they really do want to improve their operations. And with a sound academic program already in place, if they can streamline their business side, they will truly be a leader in the critically important field of programming education.

My son has been attending UCODE and enjoys his classes. He especially likes his instructors for Fabricio, Neil and Dave! Frank is a helpful director that is ready to assist you.

Great place for kids from K to 12 to learn coding! My kids learned Scratch, html, Java Script for less than a year!

We have had such an amazing experience with UCode so far. It is incredible to see the boost in confidence that the kids have when they are successful with their coding skills. It is always a proud moment for them when they get to show off their projects. Thank you to Frank and the rest of the amazing staff at UCode for doing such a great job with our kids.

Our kids love UCode. They have a great curriculum and the staff are super helpful. I really appreciate that the curriculum is self-​paced, because it lets each of my kids focus on what interests them most (to keep their interest) and on what they need extra help with. I would give them 10 stars if I could.

My son really enjoys going to UCode! He first went to the Minecraft camp back in August and loved it. We just signed him up for a 6 month membership and he goes once per week for 2 hours on Sunday. He always looks forward going his session and all of the other kids there seem to be enjoying themselves too. I highly recommend it!

My son loves Ucode! I did not think he would have the patience for programming but he seems to really enjoy it.

I am so glad we joined Ucode! My kids are learning Scratch and HTML right now and also practicing their keyboarding skills. They love it, and the instructors are great. I like the online scheduling system, and the fact that you can schedule make-​up sessions or change your weekly schedule with ease.

Everyone is very helpful and my son is excited to learn. Great concept and we love the flexible scheduling.

Great place for kids to learn coding. My kids just love it and look forward to going every week. The instructors there are amazing and work so well with the kids, you can really feel their dedication to each child’s success and progress.

My son loves Ucode! He’s been going since this Torrance location opened, so little over 2 years now. When he started, he was 6 years old. He quickly mastered Scratch, html and now working on Java Script at 8 years old. The teachers are very patient & friendly. A fun, relaxing environment for kids to geek it up.
He also had his birthday party here, which is offered on Sundays. Kids get to play Minecraft and they will include a virtual birthday cake inside Minecraft world!
I like the flexibility their schedule offers. Over the last 2 years, their scheduling system evolved and now it seems to be working great for both parents and Ucode. I hope they’ll come up with an App system so it’ll make it easier for busy parents to schedule & reschedule.
My only (very small) gripe is that the kids do not get to choose their teachers. Sometimes, you get a teacher who doesn’t know what your child has been working on. I feel like having a relationship with certain teachers make it easier on kids so they don’t have to explain what they’ve been doing over and over, each time they log in. I believe in teacher/​student compatibility as well so one teacher may work while another may not work with your child.

My son has been a member at Ucode for over a year now and is always happy to go and spend time with the wonderful instructors who make learning so fun. He has made many friends during his time at Ucode and loves it when he sees friends from Ucode out in the community. Frank and all the other Instructors there have always been so helpful and patient with my son and all the kids there. Ucode is a wonderful asset to our community and an excellent after school enrichment activity. I am so grateful to have found this wonderful resource.

Our son is 12 and he’s always on the computer playing games and watching YouTube videos, etc. Somebody had suggested maybe we should enroll him in something more productive. To try it out, we signed him up with Ucode for a minecraft event one Saturday. He enjoyed that class so much that he managed to convince us to enroll him in Ucode as he wanted to do computer programming or something to do with computers in college. $ 200 a month is not cheap but we figured this will be a great start and an investment to see if this is what he wanted to do as a career. So far, 5 months later, he’s progressing along and is still interested. He’s done app and web design and Java. Frank, the Center Director, and his mentors had been great in overseeing my sons progress and his potential. We’re hoping my son sees his potential in this field. If not, at least contribute to his future success and whatever he decides to pursue in college.

Initial report is positive, with our young son learning some fundamental aspects of coding. (Young children start with the graphical Scratch programming interface developed by MIT, so they can still build code even if they can’t type at all.) Deducting one star because you can’t choose which instructor your child gets paired with, and because their member events are no longer free.
