SnowTech

We’ve been using SnowTech for about 12 years. In the early years they would have the driveway cleared by 7am. It always seemed that SnowTech and Waltman (the two majors on Tahoe Donner) showed up about the same time. This year the service seems way down. Waltman clears our neighbors but SnowTech is nowhere to be seen. A couple weeks ago I finally called them and they did come quickly but it was already 9:30 on a Friday. If you’re trying to go skiing or work that’s not good enough and I should not have to call– it should have been done earlier. I don’t know if they think that second homes don’t need clearing on weekdays or what (bad assumption). Unfortunately after years with SnowTech I may change next year.

We had our carpets cleaned yesterday and Snow Tech couldn’t have done a better job. They were prompt, professional, reasonably priced, and extremely accomodatiing. I highly recommnend them.

Takes a while for them to get to you, but when they do their drivers do a great job.

Driveway plowing, driveway sealing, stained my house, all of the above for 5 plus years. They do what they say they will when they say they are going to be there and if there are issues they fix them. They hit my light once and my garage door and fixed both. The stain had a few drips on the deck which the spa guy noticed and they came right out. Another company did my driveway sealing when we first moved in and it took months for them to finish (and ask for there money) but they didnt get the job done. I also love the snow updates. When I stopped by to pay my bill for the driveway they gave me a tour of the facilities.

This is my 5^th year using SnowTech. When I first moved to Truckee, and asked my neighbors for advice on snow removal they informed me that SnowTech and Waltman were the two main companies providing snow removal services in our neighborhood. They recommended Snowtech based on their positive experiences with the company. I haven’t used Waltman and I can’t say I’ve heard anything bad about them, but my experience with snowTech has been excellent overall.
They aren’t perfect, but they have done a solid job. This year has been a record snow year and these guys have been getting crushed with work. They charge a flat fee for the season and I can’t imagine they will make any money this year. However, with the exception of one day, they have done a fantastic job working day and night to get people get in and out of their homes.
What prompted me to write this review is an experience I had a couple of weeks ago. Snowtech had cleared my driveway sometime very late the night before as they usually do and the following morning, the town of Truckee blew a good portion of the snow from my street onto my easement road, completely blocking access to my driveway. The snow was heavy, waist deep, and there was no way I was going to get it clear with my blower (I have a very long easement road). As I walked outside, I noticed a Snowtech operator driving down my street. presumably he had been out clearing the small berms that the town pushes in front of everyone’s driveways when they plow or blow the street. I stopped him to ask if he would take another pass at my driveway and easement road. With a smile, he told me that he would be back in 15 minutes to clear it. Sure enough, 10 minutes later he showed up and cleared my entire easement road, driveway, and parking pad, doing a great job and removing all the snow the town had dumped on the easement road. I thanked him profusely and tried to give him $ 20, which he refused to accept.
For what its worth, Snowtech made a few mistakes over the years (they broke the glass on one of my outdoor lights once, which they immediately looked into and offered to replace), but snow removal in Tahoe Donner is not an easy business and they manage to do a great job with a very positive attitude.
Just one final note, this year they started doing daily email updates each time they clear, which I find great. If anyone at Snowtech reads this, thanks for starting to do this.

This is my first year with SnowTech and it will surely be my LAST! Their plowing is sporadic at best, they don’t answer their phones and when they do, they have a bunch of excuses as to why your driveway isn’t plowed. All I know is I paid the price they asked and my husband is shoveling our driveway. Never again!

No snow for 5 weeks, so I assume it’s a reasonable time to call and ask someone at Snowtech to replace a bent piece of rebar next to the driveway — which has now scraped a couple of cars coming in and out of our drive. 3 calls and 3 weeks later, I am informed again that someone will be out. Hmmm — if I knew that this would be such an astronomical effort for a local company — I’d have saved the effort and just moved to the competition next season. We’ve been with Snowtech for years, now on second home. I’m disappointed.

I’ve been using Snowtech for 7 seasons now and things only get better. I love the daily email updates explaining the snow situation and what to expect. They are really plugged into the town plowing plans and how that will impact berms to my driveway. Many years ago, the auger on one of the machines caught my stairs and they were very responsive about coming out to repair them (better than before). We’re having a great snow year and they are working hard… hope they still make some money given how frequently they’re having to clear!

These guys rock! They’re the only reason I was able to hit a foot of fresh powder on Wednesday. A foot of snow in the driveway at 7am sucks if you’ve gotta shovel it by hand.
