Ambient Air Heating & Cooling

I have a rental property in Tucson, I have popular insurance company to help cover emergencies in my house, and they call local contractors when a problem arises. In the Past 2 months I have had two different service requests:
1) On July 05 the tenant reported the AC not working. They sent a technician to the house, they had to order a part and replaced it as soon as they got it. I heard from the tenant that the Blower Motor was the cause of the problem, and I was fairly satisfied with the service.
2) On August 24^th, I get a call from a plumber I had sent to the house to investigate some leaking in the crawl space. The plumber says that the AC Unit is leaking and he cannot fix it. The service request was transferred to Ambient Air as an Emergency request. I personally called Ambient Air to make sure they went to the house as soon as they had a chance. The person on the phone was extremely rude to me, I explained the leakage was causing water damage on the walls and the water was finding its way to the first floor in the house, the person on the phone simply said: «NO, we will not go until tomorrow afternoon».
After the leakage problem was finally fixed, the tenant asked the AC technician details of the root cause of the leakage. The technician said that THE CONDENSATION LINE WAS NOT HOOKED UP. I have been doing research and those lines don’t just pop-​out of AC units, they did come to my house one month before and there is a chance they did not connect it properly thus causing the leakage one month later, of course they will deny it, but I still believe it is very possible this was caused by them.
I can understand that they are busy during the summer especially in Tucson, and everyone considers their AC problem an emergency, but when you have water damage and you are BEGGING them to work with you, don’t count on them, they do not care about their customers, and to be honest, I am doubtful of their expertise.

We were assigned this joke of a company through our home warranty. The drip pan was rusted and had a hole which caused a leak in our ceiling.
They came in and inspected our unit and told us that the drip pan was no longer made and we’d need a coil installed. This service was covered by our home warranty — I verified with the warranty company that the $ 75 deductible would be the only out of pocket cost. When Ambient arrived a week later to do the job they told us that on top of the $ 75 we would need to pay almost $ 1,000 more for installation (after the tech has completed the work). We told them we wouldn’t pay that and sent them off. I called the warranty company to let them know we were being asked to pay more than the deductible and they confirmed this was not correct. They contacted Ambient and he them cancel the bill.
This was last October.
Yesterday our ceiling started to leak in the exact same place. We contacted a friend who is an a/​c tech and he came over to inspect the unit for us. He discovered out that the work done by Ambient was the poorest job possible. They didn’t completely connect the condensation line to the AC unit and the PVC pipes weren’t lined up or connected with PVC cement. They were simply put next to each other.
This seems like a company that was ensuring we’d need another visit from an AC company and they would find a way to get us to pay the money the originally tried to scam us out of the first time.
The craftsman ship was less than poor and the customer service was the same.
If you hear the name Ambient, run. And run fast!

My air conditioning unit has frozen up 3 times within the past 2 weeks. We generally only run the ac at 75 during the day and lower it to 73 at night. The first two times, this joke of a company has sent Steve out to «fix» it (yesterday being the last time). Here we are the very next day, and the unit is frozen up again. Each time he has been out he has been very disrespectful and condescending, making rude comments about my home, and when asked if he knew what would be the cause of the unit freezing responding «Just let me do my job.»
The first time he claimed there was a broken wire and the unit worked fine afterwards for about a week and a half before freezing up again. The next time, he said he cleaned the coils and checked the Freon, but he didn’t know what kept freezing the unit up. He said that since we were «just tenants» there wasn’t much he could do. When the unit was powered up, it seemed to work ok, until tonight, when it froze again.
This company not only hires incompetent technicians, but are rude over the phone and have a «you need us more than we need you» attitude.
Now we have to wait again at 11 pm on a Saturday night for our property management company to contact this disgrace of a company (which will most likely not get to us until Monday afternoon), meanwhile my wife, myself and my five year old daughter (as well as our 2 dogs) get to endure yet another day (or 2) in the 105 degree AZ summer with no ac.

The third time the company came out, they sent Adrien. He was polite and courteous and very professional. He took his time and replaced the part that needed to be replaced and gave us some advice. Brian took our call at the office and was also very polite. A night and day difference from our other dealings with the company. Hopefully we will not have an issue with the a/​c again.

Just as important as finding a good mechanic, so too is finding a reputible ac/​heating company. I’m not sure how I found Ambient, but I’m surely glad I did. Bought their maintenance plan three years ago. There are other local companies who charge more than double Ambient’s price. We were happy with the service until the past year when the semi-​annual visits averaged over $ 300. Then, our a/​c unit broke down this past Sunday. Our unit was bottom of the line installed when the house was built about twelve years ago. Hmm, put money in an old unit or buy new?
We bought new, and bought the unit one step down from the best which meant having to buy both the a/​c unit and the furnace. The 89 degree temps in the house necessitated urgency. I called two other places for estimates. One never called back, and the other guy wanted to measure rooms, estimate heat loss in the attic, evaluate upgrades in ventillation. I just wanted a/​c. Adrian, from Ambient, said he could do the same, but why? Ours is a relativey new home. The old unit and furnace had worked just fine until they reached the end of their life. The unit we bought wa$ ex$pen$ive but, when you live in the desert, you need reliable a/​c. Ambient’s rep, Adrian, honestly presented info and let me make the decision to buy what I did. There was no high-​pressure sales pitch.
Their installers showed up as promised and did an ansolutely professional job. Because we’re on their maintenance plan, we got a 10% discount, another discount because I paid cash (check), and we’ll get a $ 1000 rebate from Trane plus a $ 300 tax credit for buying a unit that’s listed over 16,000 SEERS. Plus, Ambient added an addition year to our service plan, not that they’ll have to do anything to a new unit other than to clean coils, but still…
While Ambient’s website isn’t as impressive as D & H, the company who never got back to me, I am very satisfied with the product and the service from Ambient. One of the installers has worked with them for eight years. I didn’t ask others how long they have been with the company, but I know that Adrian has been with them for at least three. Employee stability is another good sign, yes?
Regarding one of the bad reviews on here, I’d say to him, «Welcome to capitalism.» If he thinks Ambient’s mark up is bad, I wonder if he’s ever bought bottled water.
I highly recommend Ambient without reservation.

I’ve been using Ambient Air for several years, and at two different houses. I use their maintenance plan so they come twice a year to check the a/​c and heat. I’ve been very pleased with the technicians that have come, and have had the same techs multiple times so their employee turnover must be low. Plus when I have an issue, they have always come the same day or next to fix it. The prices are reasonable and I feel comfortable recommending them to my friends.

Ambient air USED to be my AC maintenance company. 31 Jul a technician named Richard Wagner stopped by for my annual checkup. after checking system out, he comes to me and says «I have bad news». He took me outside and showed me a leak in my compressor. I asked what will it take to fix. He gave me a «proposal and agreement letter» To swap just the compressor would cost me $ 3,175.26 that is WITH a 10% discount… To replace the entire unit with a brand new Rheem would cost $ 3724.71…I pulled part number off compressor, googled it and found the average cost to be around $ 750…I ended up calling another company and after $ 1000.00 my AC unit is running better than it ever has. All they did was swap the compressor… I understand a company has to make money, but this is ridiculous!!! $ 750 was retail for that compressor, these AC companies get these compressors for wholesale prices. His quote alone for just the compressor was $ 2160…you do the math and figure out on your own if you want to deal with this company, or Richard Wagner

I was required to use Ambient Air Heating & Cooling through my home warranty contract and I was looking forward to getting my AC system fixed. I usually use another company and I was a little skeptical of the hours of 7a-​4pm because it’s not flexible for a working schedule and I tried to let them know that myself and my husband worked every day. I was told they needed to do a diagnostic check and they were able to schedule it right away at 4pm on a Tuesday, which worked out great. The technician, Adrian, was there for about 30 minutes and confirmed it was compressor that was out. Since it was a part they’d need to order it. That was all I was told.
Several days later, on Friday, I called Ambient Air to ask about the status and I spoke to Steve who told me that the warranty company orders the parts. No problem, I told him I would call and check in with them on Monday. I called at 5pm on Monday and the warranty people said that Ambient should have received the part and contacted me by now. I called Ambient Air right away and let them know I was concerned and wanted to follow up. I was told the person who handled that wasn’t there. So I waited and received a call back from Mike, who told me they did have the part. I asked him why no one had called yet and why it took my call to hear this information and he was rude– telling me that the warranty people don’t always communicate with them or the suppliers. I wanted to remind him that I was a customer and not the warranty employee but it seemed like a lost cause. I tried to schedule something for sometime after 4pm (after their regular hours) and he kept telling me they were booked (funny how last week when I was a new customer they were able to get me right in). So I told him my husband was home on Friday and available in the afternoon. He very curtly said «So your husbands home, but he’s NOT available in the morning» and I explained yes– we had other appointments. After a long drawn out discussion I finally got an appointment for Friday afternoon. Then I received a voicemail back stating that $ 175 would be out of pocket for disposal fees or some such nonsense. I promptly called back confirmed that was the total after tax and okayed it.
The Bottom Line: technicians are good and got the job done but I wouldn’t want to deal with their customer service again. Ambient, please take note of this issue, a little compassion goes a long long way.
