Martin’s Comida Chingona

Brought my sister and boyfriend here loved the Carne Asada tacos! Amazing chips an salsa– great variety of wonderful Mexican dishes! Will definitely return an also recommend. Thanks Martin!

This place was a great find! I got 3 tacos: 1 veggie, 1 bean and cheese, 1 fish. They were all delicious and a little spicy with fresh veggies, and fish that didn’t come out of a frozen dinner package. The huevos rancheros came on a dark tortilla that was delicious and filling. The horchata was one of the best I have ever had! And save room for the empanadas — both the pineapple and cream tasted homemade and shouldn’t be missed!

There is no better meal on 4^th Ave. and there is no freezer, microwave or bullshit at Martins. Go hungry and ready to eat. This food has been a part of my Sunday afternoons since 2009. I go after yoga and eat a piping hot fresh veggie mole burrito with a Mexican Coke. Martin won my heart with burritos and now he lives with me. Don’t be jealous Tucson, I’m the one that does the cooking at home.

This place is awesome– and I really should go there more often. Simple but delicious food. No guacamole served here but you’ll get a halved avocado with lime, salt and cotija. So fricken good! And no slit cream or yellow cheese either! It’s snug here and service can feel a little chaotic on a busy night, tables and chairs are mismatched, it can get loud, but seriously it’s part

Soy chorizo, eggs and potatoes burro was exceptional! It’s also huge, so share with a friend of fast the day before!

Great atmosphere! I love the fact I can BYOB and enjoy the best tacos on 4^th Ave. The thick corn tortillas are awesome.

i think Martin just converted a bunch of regulars! Had such a pleasant casual dining experience on a Friday night and the fresh, fast, made from scratch food wowed everyone in my group, including the vegetarian. Martin does things his own way (no fryer or microwave in the restaurant, he told us) and does them well. He was friendly, helpful, and a little sarcastic.
Thing I learned and enjoyed:
–Aguas frescas are homemade, carne asada is cooked over wood fire out back
–Huevos rancheros had delicious veggies and were piled on giant blue corn tostada
–ambience is funky-​artsy and for some reason I was really digging the red lighting in the bathroom
–free chips come with bean sauce drizzled on top, salsa is fresh and good
–BYO beer and wine
–menu is short and sweet, $ 7 – 12 range with most non-​veggie things around $ 9

The food is So FuKing GooOOooD! Yes Yes YES YES YES.

The recipes are from Martine’s personal family recipes from Mexico. He has had his restaurant in downtown Tucson for some 15 – 20 years and you can still find him in the restaurant feeding people and chatting with customers.
Everything about this place is wonderful.
The restaurant is so cute decorated in Luchador artwork and is BYOB!

Tacos were very good our favorite were the carne con chili! The chips and salsa were a little disappointing! Not a lot of chips at all. Our son had a burro and it was BIG. It was packed full of goodness and could be shared! It was our first dining experience in Tucson the atmosphere was interesting!
I would give a 3.5 but can’t figure out how to do that

My dad Paul showed me this cool restaurant. I uploaded a pic of my delicious food from here also! Martin is not only super friendly and makes you feel at home, he also makes amazing food! I described what I liked and he basically came up with the delicious dish I posted! I definitely recommend this awesome place!

Never does Martin disappoint! He has seen me in a wheel chair to a walking person and serves me the best food every time! Thank you for your time and great food. Your kindness will always be remembered.

Not only is the food disgusting (the carne asada leaves a lot to be desired, and the salsa is the worst I’ve ever had), I actually saw the owner kick a cyclist’s back wheel once. When I asked him about it, he responded with «bring your dad in and I’ll kick his ass, too» and said «you need to lose 10 pounds» which… I don’t mean to fat shame, but is more than a little hypocritical coming from someone who’s morbidly obese. If only the owner put as much time and effort into improving his food as he does harassing customers, maybe this restaurant would be worth going to. Luckily, there are so many great options on 4^th Ave (Maya Quetzal, La Indita, etc.) where the food is delicious and the owners are polite professionals.

My first dining experience in Tucson.
I wasn’t sure what to expect… I wanted a light meal and to sit outside amongst the festive Saturday night foot traffic. I walked in not knowing if it was table service or not, and perhaps annoyed the busy server (owner?). But despite that, he was still friendly, gave great service and quite a hearty, jovial character.
I had a carne asada burrito with greens. A little surprising for a restaurant that has «vegetarian and vegan» on the sign. But I didn’t mind. I eat anything. While I often stick to vegetarian foods, I was in the mood for some beef. I have traveled Mexico, am a former chef and married to a Mexican… so I think that somewhat qualifies me to say… Perfecto! I wasn’t very hungry, but couldn’t stop eating! Served with cabbage and a basket of fresh chips and beans.
My husband always makes not-​too-​spicy «gringo salsa» for the guests and «regular» salsa for us. The salsa here was authentic, had the perfect taste and picante, but not too spicy. A little on the «gringo» side for salsa, but delicious. Clearly fresh.
It is easy to distinguish authentic Mexican from not-​so-​authentic-​canned-​beans-​and-​canned-​salsa Mexican. Well, it’s easy for me. This is authentic. I cannot wait to try more! I will surely update…

Update:
2^nd experience. Tried a medley of the tacos… Chicken Mole, Fish and carne asada. Five Stars again. Fresh grilled Tilapia and a perfect blend of flavors for the Mole. You really can’t go wrong here…

Each time I come here, I find myself craving their food more and more. I’ve pretty much been begging my boyfriend to go here everyday this week.
Order anything with CARNE ASADA on it. It’s BOMB. That’s pretty much all I order every time I go. I love the Carne Asada tacos the most; my boyfriend always has the Carne Asada and Spinach Burro because they’re HUGE.
Chips and salsa and frijoles is muy bien, as well. x]
I wish they increased their hours of business. I’ve came here many times, including today to find that they were closed (sad face).

Real Mexican food, loooove the tacos and the avocados.

It doesn’t get better than a Martin’s burrito. Add free pinto bean smothered chips, a cup of jamaica, and the best Mexican wrestling inspired décor and find out why Martin’s is in my top five favorite places to eat in the world.
The soy chorizo with eggs burrito could possibly be the worlds most perfect burrito but they are all good. Street tacos, tortes, and mole are also excellent. If you haven’t tried Martins then you should hurry up and get some.

Martin makes some pretty excellent mexican food at his Comida Chigona. Today I had the Chicken Mole Tacos. These were great, with slightly thicker, homemade corn tortillas. The mole sauce was spicy but flavorful, and the chicken was tender.
Comida Chingona is an interesting place. The interior is dark but the walls are covered with some pretty cool artwork and posters. The staff and owner are very friendly and outgoing; the friend I was with really enjoyed chatting up restaurantours. My friend had the Carne Asada Torta which he devoured quickly and con mucho gusto! He indicated that it was delicious.
Everything about the Chingona says quality and care. The ambiance might be a little «scary» to the unadventurous, but don’t hesitate. The food is really great!

The food was fresh and flavorful. We were happy that they could make the tacos and tortas vegan. Service was prompt and friendly. They have a strong artsy theme featuring a lot a Mexican wrestlers. Kitchy, but fun.
I only took off a point because it was a bit dark and a little warm.

I came here for a late lunch/​early dinner on the Saturday before the Salsa Madness contest closed specifically to compare Martin’s salsa to Olé’s so that I could place a fair vote. Unfortunately, Martin’s was closed when I arrived shortly after 4:00 p.m. The guy who (I assume) owns the shop next door selling Nepali clothing beckoned me in since he noticed I was wearing something that I’d probably purchased from him at the last 4^th Ave street fair. I killed as much time as I could in there, left $ 40 poorer, and still had more than an hour to kill. Figured I’d just finally walk down 4^th and see what else there was to see sans street fair. Um, not much, folks! I’m kind of puzzled about why this street — in a city of this size — is touted as a touristy shopping Mecca. Head shops and thrift stores? Whaaaa?
When I finally made it back to Martin’s, at a bit after 5:30, I was the only person there. Took a bit longer to get the chips (with beans) and salsa than you’d expect as the ONLY patron, but I’m easy. Ordered the chilaquiles based on another Unilocaler’s thumbs up (plus the fact that I wasn’t hungry enough to eat the three taco minimum). So. The salsa? Very good. Had AZSTARNET allowed me to vote, I would have given mine to Martin’s over Olé’s by a nose. But the chilaquiles? Ugh. I ate the egg and beans and left all but a bite or two of the muddled mess that made up the rest of the plate.
