The Dr and NP are great. I get compassion and care when I have an appt. Its the office staff that is the problem. Yes, they are pleasant and nice but I never ever get any callbacks to any of my phone calls even when deemed urgent. For instance… Pima County Health Dept was calling me about my test results because they are urgent serious and contagious. I called my Drs office twice… never heard back. Sure hope this serious illness doesn’t cause problems while I wait. Now its Friday so I have to wait til Monday I guess

I agree with Dave B– this office is a RIPOFF. I called my insurance company beforte having the colonoscopy. They assured me it was coverd. I called Arenas’ office and told them that. But Loo and Behold I received a bill for $ 250 after the procedure, because they coded it wrong– diagnostic instead of prventative (I hadn’t had a colonoscopy in more than 12 years and I told them that)
I called them several times about the bill. They were exceptionally rude and very unhelpful. I tried several times, calling my insurance company, calling my prescribing doctor to correct their coding. But they refused to do that and didn’t even return my call.
I paid the bill but it was a RIPOFF. The coding was done ONLY to assure that their office made the maximum amount of money, it was oviously done purposefully and you have no recourse whatsoever.
Avoid this place.

Just came back from two days of dreaded procedures like the endoscopy and colonoscopy.
I am not going to sugar coat the prep for the colonoscopy because it is just plain horrible. Some folks breeze through it. Not me, it was beyond words. But that is really not the important thing. The staff at Dr. Arenas’s Gastroenterology and Surgery Center were amazing. He is the warmest doctor and so knowledgeable in his area of expertise. He listens to you and pieces different pieces of your past symptoms to make proper assessments. I believe he really cares about you. The girls in the surgery center were warm and welcoming. Making sure you were comfortable and just had a super good attitude. I would highly recommend them to anyone. I met Dr. Arenas during a four day stay at TMC and he was the doctor on call relating to the problems that brought me to the hospital in the first place. Glad everything is over.

Procedural and staff they would have had a a five star.
We carry the best of insurance that can be obtained in network. After the wake up and leaving we found the doctor Dr. Arenas did not code the colonoscopy as preventative medicine and nothing was found instead of being covered as preventative medical it costed 400 for the center and the doctors cost was another 400 then even though the center was contracted by our insurance.
On contacting our insurance after a dispute with our insurance which their response was. *Your doctor did not ADD a code anywhere for preventative medicine.
We contacted them, The results beyond uncooperative Connie was at times near rude and even some what threatening. She said that they would not and could not cooperate, TOUGH
In the previous the week before there was a upper gi.
Again in network procedure and well something small was found that had been previously known.
Ok it was not preventative so it was not covered I get that,
BUT a the lab test done by a separate lab sent out by them (lab test in network are covered by my insurance) Had billing of 1900 dollars OUT OF NETWORK.
Again Connie was less than steller.
Good service but expect more than biopsies and procedures, leave your wallet at home they want to circumvent the insurance and get into your hard worked money.

I’m sure many other people have had a great experience with Dr. Arenas. Unfortunately, I am not one of those people. Although I felt the staff and the overall operation of his office was adequate, the treatment plan has left much to be desired. My symptoms remain after multiple different medications and I have been forced to find a different doctor. I feel the term «treat and street» accurately reflects my experience. Nice people, but poor execution of medicine at my expense.

Amazing experience wonderful staff, they ran on time were caring and warm. Highly recommend. Dr. Arenas may be the kindest dr I have met. Just a terrific operation!

I had my first endoscopy done, and I was so nervous. As soon as I went in the back, the staff was so nice and friendly! I’ve never been to a doctors office where I’ve felt like the staff genuinely care about you and how you are feeling, besides this place. The prep was quick-​the iv was put in fast and almost painless, and the procedure was a piece of cake. They made sure to inform me of the results right away-​the only complaint I would have is that the doctor seemed rushed-​but all doctors are nowadays. Other than that, this place was welcoming and they even called me the next day to see how I was doing.

I just left the Doc’s surgery center, if I could give 10 stars I would. I was in full panic mode before having my first colonoscopy today. His staff is amazing and the Dr. Is tops!
I highly recommend him!!!

I was completely satisfied with the whole staff. The anxiety that I was feeling about the procedure slowly disappeared as soon as I walked through the door. From the receptionist to the wonderful nurses and Dr. Arenas, the staff was comforting, reassuring and sympathetic. They explained everything to me before and after the procedure, and followed up the next day.
Anyone who is avoiding getting a colonoscopy because of fear of pain or anxiety, please know that the staff will help you through all your concerns and the screening could save your life. I will return for my next procedure anxiety free.

I’m a happy patient after going to Mesquite Gastroenterology for my first colonoscopy. Everyone knew what they were doing and did it well. It was painless and thorough. I found the right place.

I had my first colonoscopy here a couple of months ago. The staff was so great after I told them (for the 2^nd or 3^rd time) that this was my first colonoscopy, they explained the whole procedure and reassured me over and over again. The whole staff are all about patient comfort-​they suggested that I spring for the more expensive laxative (you drink much less of it and it does not taste bad) which I did, they told me what to bring and what would happen.
I had my paperwork done ahead of time and when I walked in for my procedure, I didn’t even have to sit down. They got my boyfriend’s number and told him they’d call him in about 1.5 hours. I put on a gown, laid down on a gurney and chatted with the very friendly and helpful nurses. Within about 10 min, I was wheeled into the surgery room, the nurse explained everything that would happen (as they had the whole time) and I awoke to hear the nurse on the phone with my bf, telling him I was ready to be picked up.
Dr. Arenas went over the written report with me and my bf, I dressed and they wheeled me out. I was starving and since they told me I could eat anything, my bf and I stopped at the Tanque Verde Tucson Tamale on the way home which is quite close to Mesquite Gastro.
Colonoscopies are not enjoyable, but Mesquite Gastroenterology goes out of their way to make it as comfortable, painless and quick as possible. It’s more of a boutique medical experience, not an HMO clinic experience. It was covered by my insurance. I am so glad I avoided the hospital endoscopy centers and came here. I HIGHLY recommend them!

Such a wonderful center with amazing staff! I was very anxious about the procedures, but the nurses and Dr. Arenas were extremely empathetic and had me more relaxed. I was so pleased with the support from the nurses and how detailed Dr. Arenas was with the results. I highly recommend them!

My husband had a procedure. I would give the doctor and the staff at the surgery center 5 stars. The lady in the billing department was rude. I was charged $ 500 before the surgery in February. My insurance company informed me that I was overcharged and that I should contact them for a refund. I called them and requested to be called back but I was ignored. When I called the last time, I finally spoke with someone who said they were waiting for my insurance to pay them and then I would receive my refund. My insurance has sent them the check number and all of the information showing they were paid and I am still waiting for my refund. It is stupid to have to wait 4 months for a refund.

Just want to give a Thumbs up to Dr. Arenas and the entire staff at Mesquite Gastro & Surgery Center. My whole experience from beginning to end (no pun intended ;) was great. Very nice and warm people. A special thanks to nurse Joanne who really helped me be prepared & understand everything.

You know when you wake up from being sedated and you talk a lot? Well, one of the many things I said just waking up was how great the nurses were and that I would Unilocal them. As everything wore off and I was told/​remembered I said that, I am deciding to write this review. I am a man of my word.
Without getting into details, I needed a simple procedure. A few doctors work through the center (mine was Dr. Arenas). Everything from checking in to checking out was great. The lady at the front as friendly. The nurse that went conducted the interview before the operation was informative and great. The next nurse that took care of me was very comforting. The nurses that were there when I woke up were awesome.
I never thought I would Unilocal something like this, but as I said a promise made is a promise kept. Whether I said it still feeling the anesthetics or not, I will write the Unilocal review. That being said, I recommend Dr. Miguel A. Arenas who conducts his procedures out of this surgery center.
