Afters Ice Cream

They’re famous for their ice cream and serving it between a warm Donut which they call Milky Buns. The line was pretty long, I think I waited 30 minutes on a Thursday night. It was also strange that they didn’t have prices anywhere listed. I think they’re supposed to be on the walls but maybe this location is new and they didn’t get a chance to do that yet?
Once you get to the front of the line the service is really nice. They’ll help explain the flavors and toppings and choices, they also are good about letting you try samples of flavors. I had the milky bun with jasmine green tea ice cream. I chose not to have a topping. The warm milky bun is a great addition to your cold ice cream. The milky bun also has great taste.
Yes, it’s a little expensive, I think $ 4 for a scoop of ice cream and $ 6 – 7 for the milk bun + ice cream, but it’s something different. They have good flavors of ice cream and I can see myself craving their milk buns again. I recently went to a location closer for me in the Diamond Jamboree and that one had prices on the walls and a shorter wait.

Came here few times and always very busy.
Tried their peanut butter smore’s, vanilla, and almond cookie. Personally, I don’t find their ice cream to be special or good. They look like they have a lot of coloring for some of the flavors which doesn’t attract me very much and it is not cheap.
The milky bun is pretty good, taste like a hot glazed Krispy Kreme donut and with your choice of ice cream and one topping.
Peanut butter smore’s taste like regular rich peanut butter ice cream with some crumbs in it. No chocolate nor marshmallow taste to it though. Peanut butter flavor covered everything else.
Vanilla actually has vanilla beans in it! Rich vanilla flavor from both beans and I believe maybe vanilla extract in it? I don’t think its fully vanilla beans.
Almond cookies one is so far my favorite because it tastes just like the name. You got the fine size cookie crumbs and strong rich almond flavor.
I only come here because it is super close by me and I can just walk there but other than that, I don’t find their ice cream to be delicious or amazing.

Ehhh. Not impressed. Milky bun just tasted like a stale donut with melted ice cream inside. So odd, they have space but no seating inside. So instead you have to sit outside on cold cement benches. Will not be back. Don’t understand the hype.

It’s so refreshing to see that Afters opened up another location in the OC. Plus, it’s a little closer to where I live so a definite win! The line moves very quickly and the workers are very friendly too.
–Acai Blueberry Sorbet: 4.5÷5 I had to try a sample of this since I don’t recall ever seeing it at the original After’s location. I loved how I could actually taste the little bits of blueberry inside. Super creamy and tastes like the Jamba Juice Acai Super Antioxidant smoothie.
–Milk & Cereal Milky Bun: ⁵⁄₅ If you’ve never been to Afters, you must try their famous milky bun. All of their ice creams can be put in the milky bun but usually you should pick a creamy one. If you pick a sorbet, keep it separate like what I had to do with the Acai Blueberry sorbet. The milk and cereal ice cream had the best winning combination with the bun. Since the bun is glazed, the ice cream melts so smoothly and the taste together is amazing. Definitely a must try.
The total came out to $ 10 which was $ 4 for the sorbet and $ 6 for the milky bun. Pretty pricey for small sized desserts but it’s worth it every once in awhile.

I was so excited to try Afters on a recent trip down to the OC. Many friends have recommended the milky buns with unique ice cream flavors inside!
We sampled the Cookie Monster and Cinnamon Crunch (not sure of the exact flavor) ice cream in unglazed milky buns. Service was extremely friendly by two kind, young gentlemen.
I love how they warm up the milky bun for consumption! The combination was great and super unique! The combination of the warm milky bun with the cold, unique flavors of ice cream was delicious! My scoop of Cookie Monster didn’t have many cookie chunks in it though, and I sort of wish I would have sampled the Mint Monster or the Jasmine Tea flavors before deciding!
Also, the donuts had a little bit of a greasy after taste, which did take away from the experience.
Overall, I was still very impressed by the taste of the milky buns. I would be interested in sampling them fresh at a higher volume location next time. Great addition to Tustin’s dessert scene, though!

My first time at the Tustin location. Line went by pretty quick for a Saturday night. I tried the almond cookie on a milky bun. the ice cream was really flavorful and delicious, but I feel like the bun took away some of the intensity of that flavor.
I wish they had a sign up with their most popular flavors for easier ordering. They have a lot of wall space, they can use.
Next time maybe I’ll be bold and try a more intense flavor in my milky bun.

Hello ice cream! Who doesn’t scream for ice cream?! I sure do!!! However the long lines and small space sadly keep me at bay. :(I know they have a truck and open new locations but I really wish they could open new registers! Or do the In-​N-​Out thing and take orders while people are waiting in line! Then I would come running back to you! Because your flavors are unique, and accurate to their names. Throw that in a waffle cone or glazed donut (even better!), and we’re in heaven!
If you can come by during the day on a weekend it’s definitely worth the stop!

Afters Ice Cream has gotten pretty popular, and opened a couple newer locations in Southern California. Newest one I know of is in Chino Hills. They’re becoming famous for their donut ice cream sandwiches called Milky Buns. First time learning of a donut ice cream sandwich concept. Currently they can only be ordered with one flavor. However, you can order double scoops with mixed flavors without buns.
Be prepared to respond to questions such as «Does it matter which flavor is on top?» And «Do you want any toppings?» If you’re able to decide while being the 4^th or so person in line, it helps their lines move quicker; especially during summer/​autumn.
The Tustin store is run by lively big kids probably high school or college. They are fast and attentive! In this store they have a system going; there’s one who prepares your ice cream, one who rings you up. There may be a third helper also, if you order a milky bun.
If paying by debit or card their cashiering /​registers are the modern paperless systems where you sign with your finger and can have your receipt emailed to you.
No indoor seating is available due to the long lines they experience in warmer months. It being SoCal we have enough warm days during winter where you can still enjoy their ice cream outside :-)
My fave flavors — Vietnamese Coffee with Triple C’s (that’s 3 chocolates); toppings depends on my mood. Give ‘em a try and get your milky bun on!

Not having to wait in line makes a huge difference, all the more when it’s been a while since you’ve had ice cream… it just tastes so much better.
JASMINE MILK TEA is as purple as an ube ice cream that tastes exactly like everyone’s favorite boba drink, making it my number one flavor here. The COOKIE MONSTER on the other hand is the kids’ go-​to and I’ll blame the bright blue coloring for that, as well as the texture that makes you think you’re eating melted ice cream with brownie bits. Tastes like ‘cookies and cream’ with sweetness that’s a little over the top IMO.
A recent discovery is the BANANA WALNUT FUDGE which goes very well with the VIETNAMESE COFFEE if you eat them together. I would stick with eating the ice cream on a waffle cone or in a cup rather than eating it with the donut. I know it seems to be a revelation to others but I’m just not a fan of how messy it can get, plus the sweetness is overkill. The donut itself could be better so again, skip that and stick to the ice cream.
I know they’ve been around in this location for sometime now, so why was there no pricing available when we went? We blindly ordered and got 3 scoops in a cup and 2 scoops in a waffle cone with a damage of $ 14 out the door. Yep, pricey!

This isn’t your typical ice cream joint with the usual flavors. Here you will find churro, Vietnamese coffee, cookie monster and other flavors. You can get a cone, cup, or a milk bun like a sandwich. I went with Mint Monster with chocolate chips on the bun. You can sample the flavors to see what you like.
Inside is large but there are no tables. Only a ton of people waiting in line. This place is so busy. Outside there are a few tables. I need to return and try some of the unusual flavors.

If you love sweets Afters Ice Cream is definitely the place for you. It’s a pretty simple concept with a fantastic final product. You can order either a typical bowl of ice cream, or a milk bun (which is essentially a glazed donut) stuffed with ice cream in the center.
Now you may be thinking, «What separates this ice cream parlor from the next?» Aside from the milk bun, the flavors are far from basic. The flavors range from Cookie Butter and Churro, to Cookie Monster and Milk and Cereal! It’s a great combination of hot and cold, and the two desserts complement each other really well. If you do plan on coming at night on a Friday or Saturday, be prepared for a long line because this place does get packed. Also, plan on spending around $ 6-​$ 8 per person.
The only downside is that you will probably get diabetes after because the milk bun + ice cream has enough sugar to last you a week. I recommend Afters Ice Cream to anyone who loves ice cream, or is looking for something sweet!

Afters Ice Cream wasn’t even on my bookmarks list, but one night after craving for something sweet after dinner, I asked my boyfriend what place I should go since he went to LA a few months before me. He said it was cool so we went. And little did we know; this was actually right across from where we had lunch, Gen Korean BBQ. YAS.
When I got here with my family at night, there was a pretty long line inside and while I wish I could say it went by fast. It totally didn’t. But we came here to try this place so we waited. The walls are decorated nicely so you can consider that a photo opportunity while you’re waiting in line if you want.
Eventually we got to the front and there was definitely a lot of ice cream choices to choose from. I’m not quite sure what flavor I got, but I did get it in the milky bun and it was good. It was like a glazed donut that was cut in half to put ice cream between. Simple, but good.
Overall, would I come back? Possibly. LA has a lot of dessert choices to offer so I’m definitely gonna hit new spots before visiting the old. But still good to try at least once!

The ice cream is creamy and delicious. It’s rich and flavorful. Some favorites are the Vietnamese Iced Coffee, Cookie Monster, and Jasmine Milk Tea. The other flavors sound great too… Just haven’t gotten around to them but that just means future visits soon! For a special treat, have your ice cream in a milk bun. You can choose from glazed or plain bun. Both are good, but I prefer the plain as to not have such a cloyingly sweet dessert. Numerous toppings abound too so mix and match to your heart’s content. Whatever the case, this place gets a thumbs up!

Okay, this place was SOOO bomb! We were greeted by very friendly and humorous cashiers and servers. When I said that I loved the Bulbasaur tip jar I got a fist bump!
Honestly, this place really lives up to the hype. Their donuts are so soft and melt in your mouth, and have the perfect amount of glaze. And the ice cream? Oh my GOD. I LOVED the Cookie Monster! I tried a bit of my mom’s regular cookie dough, too, and it was all amazing. It was so sticky and so worth it. If we had them in Washington, I would be in trouble! Haha.

I’ve been to the FV location, which is usually busy and to the Santa Ana truck location, where a line usually forms right when it opens, but it was different here. I came in at about 10PM on a Wednesday and although there were people hanging out outside, the inside was empty. Multiple workers helped our group and offered samples. Everyone got something different, including a scoop in a cup, a scoop in a cone, 2 scoops in a cone, and a scoop in a glazed donut. I think the most costly was the donut ice cream sandwich, which was $ 6. My friend couldn’t finish it because it was too sweet. I like the ice cream here and would skip the donuts since they don’t really specialize in making good donuts.
For flavor recommendations, there’s none that I don’t like and I’ve tried Jasmine milk tea, Vietnamese coffee, cookie monster, mint monster, milk & cereal, and strawberry cookie crunch. My favorites are the strawberry cookie crunch and mint monster.

First and for most, I am an Afters lover. I frequently go to the location in FV. A warm donut with delicious ice cream in the middle equates to a good time for me. But this location makes the Afters brand look bad…
When I went the lettering on the walls were all peeling off and the prices are covered in black construction paper with tape. The small counter area where you test the flavors has old melted ice cream all over. It was extremely dirty. I understand that people can be messy but it is the employees responsibility to actively wipe the counters and make sure the place is presentable.
When this location first opened it was immaculate and refreshing. Now it just looks beat up and ran down. I hope the staff and owners change some things around. Even though you guys have an amazing product to offer customers, does not mean you can slack off in other aspects when it comes to running a business. I really love Afters and hope this review & others can help this location stay up to par with the other Afters that are around.

I’ve heard the hype about this place and I finally got a chance to try it. The front of the store is huge! Probably meant to accommodate the long lines. But when empty, that space poses as a great opportunity for selfies or photos. haha.
So during this visit, I tried the Cookie Monster in a glazed bun. This was so good! Also, the amazing part of this is how they kept the ice cream frozen in a warm, toasty bun. What the sorcery?! Check this place out to see what I’m talking about.

When I think of desert, I think of 2 of the most best dessert. Donut and ice cream. Voila! Afters delivers and gives me both! Lol. I came here after dinner on a Saturday night because I was craving dessert and it couldn’t have been any better than this. This location is in a very small plaza. There is plenty of parking to go around. I walked into the cutest shop ever. Even the décor was super cute. (There were tons of girls trying to take selfies in front of the walls). It was not that busy for Saturday night, so I was pretty excited.
There were so many delicious choices. Make sure to ask for samples. I decided on the Cookie Monster in a milk bun. The guy in the front told me that was the most popular. I have to admit it was pretty delicious. I was kind of worried that the milk bun was going to be so sweet (I guess I was thinking that it was going to be Krispy Kreme and ice cream) but it wasn’t super sweet, which was great. The Cookie Monster ice cream was also pretty delicious.
The only small complaint I have is that the only seating is outdoors and it is limited. And since it’s so cold lately, it’s hard to sit in the cold trying to eat ice cream. I just ate mine in the car, which was ok too.

I was visiting Southern California and was recommended this place by a friend! I loooove ice cream, so I needed to try this place.
The flavors are unique and delicious. I got the jasmine milk tea flavor, and my boyfriend got their ever-​so-​popular Cookie Monster (cookies n cream, basically… but with blue food coloring!!!). They also have «milky buns,» which are essentially donut ice cream sandwiches. Didn’t get to try one, but have heard it’s delicious as well.
Afters definitely has a great selection of flavors, and it was really hard to come to a final decision. I’ll have to make another trip down to SoCal to try the rest. Stop by if you’re in the area! You don’t come across a lot of ice cream parlors as unique as this one.

Great quality ice cream and a very helpful staff. The glazed bun is really good. Prices are high, but not entirely unreasonable.
I had the «Big Stix» flavor, which totally reminded me of my childhood. I tried the famous cookie monster flavor, which isn’t bad, but seems like it would be too rich to have a full scoop of.
We also tried the glazed bun with cinnamon ice cream inside, and that combo was really good.
My only gripe with this place is the wait can get a bit ridiculous. The ice cream is good, but it ain’t life changing. Still, this place is worth a visit for any Ice Cream Enthusiast!
