History
Established in 2002.
Mentoring Minds was started by Michael Lujan. He was an Assistant Principal at Douglass Elementary School in Tyler, TX. As an administrator, he realized there were some gaps and inconveniences when it came to supplying teachers with material related to the Texas test (TAKS-test). As a result, he developed the first flipchart in his garage and from there, Mentoring Minds has taken off. Mentoring Minds is a national company offering a vast array of solutions educators can use in the classroom to make a difference in children’s lives.

Michael L.
Business Owner
With his wife, Lisa, Michael Lujan launched Mentoring Minds out of his garage in 2002.
Later that year, Lujan, then assistant principal at Douglas Elementary, created a school-subject flip chart of state standards by grade. He and his wife used credit cards to pay for printing the first 1,000 charts for kindergarten through fifth grade. Interest quickly skyrocketed and Lujan resigned from his principal’s job in 2003 and Lisa left her job as a banker.
They now have three warehouses with 53 full-time people, including eight former educators. Mentoring Minds has the largest digital printing operation between Dallas and Shreveport. The company sells 700 different products, and the customer base has grown beyond just teachers and school districts. Many of the products help students prepare for state standardized tests. Mentoring Minds creates products for specific Texas use as well as more general materials for use in schools nationwide.
