The perfect frame is one that does not take attention away from the art but complements it. Picture framing can make or break any piece of art. Inexpensive art can be made to look like prized artwork that you paid more for then you actually did, while a high end original may be left as a piece of art that doesn’t fit into your environment and gets passed over by the eye because it’s uninteresting. Good frame design should enhance and protect the art, and with the right choice of moulding and mats, a viewer’s eye may be invited to roam around within the borders of the frame exploring the nuances and richness of both the framing and the art it houses. Neither great art – nor framing – ever needs to match the sofa, but the right combination of moulding, mats and design for a piece of art allows it to fit into any décor.
