Trident Auto Performance & Smog is a full service auto repair shop and smog check station. We service all vehicles, both imports and domestic. We specialize in air conditioning, brakes, engine repair, and smog check failure diagnostics. In addition to partnering with our customers to help maintain their vehicles, we specialize in classic vehicle restorations.

Our head technician, Joe Dwyer, has over 25 years of experience in the auto repair industry, including the last 7 years at Simply Smog/​Valencia Auto Performance. He has now branched out on his to start Trident Auto Performance. In addition to being at the same location as the former Simply Smog location, you can expect the same level of service excellence that you have been accustomed to. We have the cleanest lounge of any auto repair location and we used state-​of-​the-​art equipment to correctly and efficiently diagnose your vehicle so that it’s repaired correctly the first time.

History

Established in 2013.

The business was established in 2013 at the former Simply Smog location. The former owners have moved on but the lead technician, Joe Dwyer, has established a new business performing the same services as the previous owners. In addition, the business has established new service lines including classic car restoration work. Trident is a full service auto repair and smog check station. There is no project that we cannot handle.

Joe has over 25 years of experience in the auto repair industry. He is expert technician in auto smog diagnostics, air conditioning, brakes, and engine repair. Joe has worked at various auto dealerships throughout his career. During the last 7 years, he worked to built Simply Smog to the business it is today.

During 2013, Joe establish Trident Auto Performance & Smog to provide excellence in auto repair. Joe is ASE certified as well as a state-​certified emissions specialist.

Trident Auto Performance and smog supports Lone Survivor Foundation, Forged Clothing, and Wounded Warrior Project.

I have live in Santa Clarita since the seventies and by far Hands down, best place in Santa Clarita Valley. Customer waiting room very clean. This place won’t jerk you I want to rip you off like other places I’ve been to. Very respectful gets the work done. As long as this place is open I will bring my vehicles. People that read this comment go check it out for yourself I do not lie honest man honest work.

We always take our cars to Trident for smog because of their quick turnaround and reliable service, so we didn’t think it was any big deal to take my son’s car in the afternoon before he was supposed to head back to San Diego for college. Unfortunately, Trident discovered he had rodent damage to his vehicle that needed immediate repair. Having gone through this with our other cars, I knew it could take up to two days to get it fixed, especially if parts had to be ordered. Since my son needed to leave at 9:00 am the next morning, we were a bit panicked. Trident had the part and put two men on the job to get the car done by the evening. Plus they washed his car inside and out!
They were kind, courteous and fast. A rarity these days. Very impressed.

I’m an older mechanic from years ago, and hardly ever review negatively. I came for a simple smog, it failed. They quoted me an astronomical price, so I had it repaired elsewhere. They told me to bring it back for re test at NO CHARGE. 1st return after my repairs, They sent me away without testing and said I need to reset the codes and drive at least 100miles before retesting, OK. I had another shop clear the monitors (FOR FREE) a simple task, brought it back and I was going to be charged another $ 40. He refused to honor THE NO CHARGE to retest, he denied saying that. He also said he could of fixed my car cheaper which is another lie based on his original quote. He never remembers who you are even after three visits. He tries to nickel and dime you for every little thing. I finally left in an argument when I refused to hand over another $ 40 and he threatened me, I will file a report. I’m very mechanically inclined and the only thing I could think of is all the people he has taken advantage of. Found a new great place and I will be happy to (highly) recommend. The new place cheered me up by giving me a «welcome to your new family mechanic «discount.
The past positive reviews for this place are for smog test that have past. its just a machine which takes no intelligence to use the machine. He said he doesn’t work for free and wants to be paid like a doctor. I had to place this review and do my part to warn others. I rely on reviews myself and weed through negative reviews which are not warranted. There are too many inconsistencies with this shop. I’m very easy going and not an over complainer. I had to contribute my review my threshold has been reached.

I have been going to Joe at Trident for about a year now. This is the first time I write a review in Unilocal but felt that it was appropriate due to the excellent level of service I have experienced.
I have found that Joe is a very honest, hard-​working business-​owner and knows how to take care of his clients. His work is timely, reasonably priced, and has always gone above and beyond.
A couple of weeks ago, Joe stayed late to get a last minute part for my car as he knew I really needed it. He really accommodated me due to my situation and schedule and as always, he came through!

I have had several repairs and smog checks done at this location. They have been fast and courteous. My van had 2 bad door rollers that were driving me crazy. They ordered the parts and had them installed in no time. Great people, Experienced. Oh the too honor the 25Score card.

Back again with my other car. First visit was back in March of this year. I have been really impressed with this smog center. When it comes to automotive places, you expect dirty waiting rooms and bathrooms…
Not this place.
They have clean restrooms and a nice waiting room. I am writing this updated review from their comfy couches in their air conditioned lounge using their free wifi.

Oh, and just made myself a fresh cup of coffee from their Keurig machine.
Don’t know if i will have time to finish my coffee though, as was last time, there was no wait and they finished in about 10 to 15 minutes.
This is a place I would be happy to send my wife, knowing the level of service they provide.

I was in the area and needed a smog check, did a quick Unilocal search and found Trident Smog conveniently located near the car wash, Big O tire and many restaurants.
Took advantage if their $ 25 Smog Check when you check in!!! This is such a GREAT deal!
Service was prompt and friendly. They were kind of busy so I made my way to the waiting room. I noticed the service area was very clean and modern but out of all things the bathroom took the cake. Being a car enthusiast and been to one too many auto shops with filthy restrooms. This restroom was honestly nicer than my house. (Check the pictures). This tells me that they take special care and attention to their Customer needs.
I do have one complaint. I wasn’t impressed by all the cardinal and gold paint. Then I noticed the subtle USC trash can and it all made sense. Sorry, GO Bruins.
Five star service and a five star Unilocal.

My wife got an estimate for replacement of an air conditioner compressor. The guys said it would be about $ 1,100 for parts and labor. She called me and I said that was way too high. A quick check of auto parts websites showed the part at about $ 300-​$ 400. That means the remaining $ 700-​$ 800 would be labor?! No way.
So I called a local dealer, who I wouldn’t expect to be cheaper, and they quoted a price of less than $ 600 with parts, labor and freon. Nearly half he price! Unbeknownst to me, this place tried to get my wife to come back claiming they found a cheaper part… no kidding… and said they could do it for $ 750, still almost 20% higher. No thanks.

Came here for a smog check a few days ago. I had a lot of bad experiences previously and was expecting the same when I got here. But that was not the case. Great service, great price, and very quick.
The manager was straight to the point and didn’t try to sell me unnecessary «stuff». Came back and had some more work done. Great service here!
