History

Established in 1990.

Started out of a small room in Van Nuys our operation has grown to 4 warehouses in the Van Nuys/​Sherman Oaks area. We’re fortunate to have kept the business within the family. We happily support Local Los Angeles small businesses and suggest you do the same.

Manager

Having immigrated to this country from Armenia, John is a proud American pursuing the American Dream. He started Rich and Famous Auto roughly a quarter century ago out of a small shack located at the current location. Since then it has grown to a vast and formidable operation dedicated to customer satisfaction and only the highest quality interior and upholstery work. With a brother body, frame, and paint shop next door; a sister rental car location on the other side, and a mechanic a few doors down: Rich and Famous has become a comprehensive automotive location. John happily runs the business with his wife and kids by his side.

I brought my Porsche 911 to this shop based on good reviews on Unilocal.Big mistake.
Apparently, they buy advertising on Unilocal and Unilocal has «filtered» bad reviews that you have to see only after going to the «non-​recommended» reviews. It’s a SCAM.
I paid these people a lot of money based on their repuation to replace my top, but despite multiple tries and efforts by me to get them to do the job right, they could never get the top right or even functioning the way it did when I brought it in. It is totally broken!!! I have to manually move it up and down and there’s big gaps where rain can get in. I think they bent the freaking frame!
John, the owner, keeps saying, let us have the car another few days…
You’ve taken a month fool, what else are you going to do?
Also, one of their guys apparently dropped a heavy object on my car the last time they had it, and when I went to pick up the car, they didn’t even acknowledge it. They were hoping I would drive off and not notice that they had damaged my car. Now it needs to be painted, which will probably diminish the value 20 grand.
I wish I had never gone to these guys. They suck at what they do and LIE. They need to be shut down!

I was lucky to find this place. I was looking and looking for a place to have my 1998 BMW m3 convertible top replaced. I also opted to convert my electrical two motor top system into a simple manually operated top as they can be very cumbersome. First off they gave me the lowest quote of everyone in the Southern California area. I called about 10 places and rich and famous beat all competitors quotes by anywhere from $ 100 to $ 600. And that was with the conversion included which requires some custom modification. I got domestic sailcloth and it looks just as good as the new dealer tops. The car was dropped off on Wednesday night and ready Friday morning! They did not cut any corners, the top is fitted perfectly, and the car has a much better appearance now. RICH AND FAMOUS manufactures their own upholstery products and sell to auto upholstery installers, just skip the middleman! Don’t be fooled by the other auto upholstery places, they are mostly middle men that don’t fabricate the top just install them! And charge you more for the top.

R&F repaired the top on my XJS convertible. I had actually gone there to inquire about restoring the seat leather and asked them about a spot on the rear of the back seat that the convertible top was constantly rubbing on opening/​closing. John advised me that one of the straps in the top needed replacement or else any repair of the seat back would be a waist of time. The shop repaired the top and recovered the seats in matching leather. The work was very good. It did take a bit longer than expected (most good work does) and then the front office miscommunicated to me the date it would be finished. When I arrived and it wasn’t done, they offered me a free rental for the day to bridge the time until it would be finished. I would definitely use them again. The repair costs were cheaper than another auto upholstery place I had used previously.
The body shop also did very good work on my girlfriend’s car.

I have gone here a few times and have recommended others to go as well. I have always had a great experiance with Rich and famous auto tops. I have a 99 BMW M3 Conv. they replaced my TOP with a new Green top. i got the optional tinted rear plastic window. The new top is still in great condition 4 years later! i didnt take good care of the rear window so now needed repair. I have gone back for a new rear window and will take better care by using the recommended plastic window cleaner that helps keep the plastic solf and clear. I have also had them replace the motors for the top, Everyone is always very friendly and professional. the prices are right and work is always top notch! I have a few other friends that have also gone here after mine recommendation and they have all had great results! THANK YOU RICH AND FAMOUS! :)
