Love this place. I would trade my left sock on a sunny day with a large piece of pineapple for this food.

To be honest, I haven’t actually eaten here. After seeing the great reviews on Unilocal about this place, I figured I’d go on a little quest and get some dinner. To my surprise, after driving around in circles on St. Johns, I finally found Simas… smack dab in the middle of the ghetto. There’s no signage, no phone number, no business hours, etc. When other reviewers talked about Simas being a hole in the wall, they were being extremely generous in their descriptions. The place is hidden right behind what I think is a homeless shelter on St. Johns and 33rd. I didn’t feel like getting jumped by the crazy man standing in the parking lot so I locked my doors and quickly drove away. A friend tells me that she attempted to eat here once during the lunch hour but couldn’t find the entrance. She knocked on the back door by the Simas mural and discovered that the business may be operating from someone’s small, smelly, old apartment.

Simas, is not exactly a restaurant, not even a food cart, just Sima cooking chicken. I have been around to a lot of the«Hawaiian» places in the area. Most are pretty good, but not like Sima’s. Sima doesn’t tout his ingredients. He only sells one bento box combo. He has no desire to cater to gluten free, vegan or other such food neurosis. He is authentic. If this is what your looking for, then Sima has a large portion of food at nearly an unbelievable price. If you were in Hawaii and strolling around the beaches you might see folks grilling chicken, and selling it. Sima’s is everything that Hawaiian beach bento experience offers, except the Hawaiian beach part.

Sima is a true hole in the wall(It is behind the storefronts facing onto St. Johns Boulevard and can be accessed off of East 33rd Street). There is no indoor seating, and the only outdoor seating are some very casual resin tables. What’s to offer: The owner has a barbecue sitting in the parking lot, and he cooks marinated skinless/boneless chicken thighs. He serves these with two scoops of steamed white rice and a hot dog(yes, a hot dog, I’m not sure why). The serving of chicken is massive. This costs $ 7. There is extra teriyaki and soy sauces if you want more, and he will also offer up macaroni salad(I don’t know how much that runs). This place is great for a quick pickup if you are driving through the area(it’s also just off SR-500). The food can not be beaten at any other teriyaki place!
