Porsche of Tysons Corner

This one’s pretty simple since we ended up changing our minds in the dealership.
I brought a family friend during his day trip from Los Angeles by the dealership to see if they’d happen to have any 911 GT3-​RSes within reach. Keeping in mind that this car typically sells for at least 25,000 over MSRP, you’d figure they would accommodate the possibility of a sale.
No salespeople approached us. We had to ask for a salesperson at the sales desk, and the man who first answered did so by accosting me, saying «sir, you don’t need to raise your voice.»
Sir, I’m well aware that I didn’t need to raise my voice, which is why I spoke with my indoor voice. The dealership was dead. No one was doing any business. The fact that you thought I raised my voice means you’ve never heard your dealership any louder than a library.
Well hey, that’s your loss. I brought in a guaranteed lead who was looking to ship the car back to LA, and you squandered it.
One (1) star for service. N/​A for product because… yeah, we decided against buying anything.

This is a review for the parts department only.
A little background:
I’ve been dealing with HBL/​Porsche of Tysons Corner on and off for over ten years. Several years ago I got so disgusted with their service department (I won’t go into details since my understanding is the personnel have since changed), I stopped dealing with their service and parts departments. I have been using a local indie for service and some of the online Porsche parts dealers.
I recently needed a couple of exhaust gaskets and thought, what the heck, I’ll just get them at Tysons. I called, ordered them, the helpful parts guy set them aside and I picked them up yesterday. I got them home last night and found that one of the gaskets was incorrect. I received two of the same gasket instead of one upper and one lower gasket. It’s an easy enough mistake to make since the gaskets look almost (but of course not quite) identical. I called this morning and spoke to Dave. Since it’s a bit of a pain for me to get there before they close at 6pm, he offered to send the correct part to me by FedEx. Now that’s the kind of service I’d expect from Porsche.

We are in process of resolving the situation. Our salesman and dealership working with us to get a comparable vehicle. One is on way but will have vehicle «in hand» before submitting my final review.

This is the best Porsche dealership in the DC Metro area. I own two Porsches — a 911 Turbo S and a Cayenne GTS and although Rockville Porsche is just up the street, their service is HORRENDOUS. Porsche of Tysons always answers the call and their advisors and techs are very courteous and knowledgeable — and for the most important part — they respond in a timely manner — something Rockville is still trying to figure out after 3 years. If you own a Porsche, take it to the dealership that values your business and cares for its customers.

I have had my Panamera serviced here for the last year and must say they provided me with great service. My service advisor always called me with an update on my vehicle and let me know what was needed. He is awesome!!! I thought nothing could get better until I wanted to trade in for a new one. My salesman Pat Driscol took things to a new level. He was the best salesman I have ever had when buying a car. He treated me with respect and was patient and honest with me. I talked with the General Manager who finished the deal with me and my wife and he was great. I must say when it is time to buy another Porsche I will come back here and I suggest buying from these guys. Real stand up salespeople!

Pat Driscoll helped me with my C4S purchase. He is perhaps the most patient and honest rep I have ever dealt with. Always professional and accessible, he answers every little query I have. He is probably the most knowledgeable guy on site when it comes to the brand. I have developed great respect for him, both as a Porsche associate and as a person. If you’re looking to get a Porsche, he’s your guy!

I was completely underwhelmed by their service department. I dealt with them three times in the past 8 months. Each time was less than impressive, and I will not give them the benefit of the doubt for a fourth visit.
1: I had just moved to DC from Stuttgart, and I took my 2011 911 in to update my GPS map to a North American database. Barbara initially said it would be no problem, and it took quite a while for them to get the update in from Germany… not a big deal. However, when I had it installed, the price was $ 278 more than I had initially been told by Barbara. She was not in, so I had to explain this to Jin, who did not budge on the price. In fact, he didn’t act like he believed my side of the story at all. Eventually Barbara returned from vacation and apologized and said she’d send me a check for the difference, but when it arrived it was for $ 139. Barbara explained that there was a miscommunication on the price, but never refunded what I considered was the correct amount. Strike one.
2: I took the car in for a regular service interval, and told Jin that I wanted only what was required to maintain the warranty. My mistake for writing a «blank check,» but I was surprised when I picked up the car and several items had been done in addition to what was in the service booklet that came with the car. I feel that I was taken advantage of with these additional items. Strike two.
3: On my initial visit with Barbara, I asked her if the European warranty could be converted to a North American warranty. She checked with someone (I assumed it was with Porsche Cars North America) and eventually got back to me with «yes, but it requires a U.S. registration.» I had just moved, so when I got the car registered here I again contacted her to have the warranty transferred. This time she said that she’d have to research it with Porsche North America. I sent her an email to confirm our phone call. Weeks elapsed without an answer, so I called and left two messages, and followed up with a second email. I finally received an email response from Barbara (21 days after my initial question) was that she was awaiting an answer from Porsche North America… but she never emailed or called me back after that. Strike three!
Meanwhile I contacted Porsche North America about the warranty myself, and got the answer very quickly. I was impressed with the person I dealt with there.
Finally, I received a customer survey from Porsche of Tysons and let them know what I thought of their service. And it apparently went right into a black hole… I never heard back from them.
That is the last they will see of me.

I had the absolute pleasure of working with George Paine when purchasing my Cayman. He was the consummate professional, he was prompt to respond to my email, called immediately, stayed late to meet with me and bent over backwards to ensure my satisfaction from the beginning to the end of my purchase! I highly recommend both the dealership itself and George! Fantastic experience!

Yesterday August 20, 2014 in the afternoon I was visiting this dealer for first time I try to schedule a service appointment for my Cayenne VIN# WP1AA2AP6ALA05713. I have been treated in such way that I regretted purchasing a Porsche. I will sell my Cayenne after his experience. I don’t want to go into details but that was the most arrogant and disrespectful experience I been thru my life. I wonder if the manufacturer and MR. Roger Penske is aware of the services provided in that dealer… they had the audacity to ask me if I own a Porsche… If you are not Caucasian and don’t have a suit and tie don’t visit this dealer because they are not going to pay attention to you and they will question if you have one of their vehicles. All of the staff should go thru a costumer service training, with the amount of money spend to purchase this vehicles the least expected is that when you go to the dealer for services is that you would have a great customer service experience. DO NOT EXPECT this to happen at this dealer. Do yourself a favor go to a different dealer for services because at this dealer there were none.

The service department does not stand behind their work. My car was returned to me without having been test driven after repair of the DME, and the speedometer A/​C and OBC were not functional. The service manager Peter Kim wanted more money to fix problems that their service technicians caused and were hesitant to provide a loaner. Beware of this service department — their work is terrible, their business practices BORDER ON FRAUDULENT — and their license to business in the Commonwealth should be investigated. TAKE YOUR CAR TO THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT YOUR OWN PERIL.

They did come through not long after my last review. However, I did have to put up with another rude phone conversation.
I posted my previous review due to a phone conversation I had on January 4^th. I called to ask about the status of things, and the person on the phone (Fernandes or something) said he could not look into it because no one from the accounting department was there. I told him that if I did not get some type of status that day, then I would post reviews of my experience on the internet and contact Porsche NA (which I did). He said he would have someone contact me on January 6^th, but I told him that would be too late.
On January 6^th, I was contacted by another person at Porsche of Tyson’s corner that did not sound too happy about my Unilocal review. He continued on saying that there’s no way someone would have told me that my check would be ready December 16^th. I am not sure why he does not believe that one of his fellow employees misspoke… instead saying that I misheard. This guy was not even around the desk where the deal was made.

It’s rare to associate honesty and professionalism with a dealership, but I believe that this dealership deserves 5 stars in terms of service. They’ve always been polite, professional and honest about the maintenance of my car. In particular, Jin and Barbara have been awesome. I’ve been getting my car serviced there for the last year and I like the way they do business. They’ve earned my loyalty, and when I’m in the market for another 911, I’ll buy it from them.

I had the most pleasurable experience with salesman, Peterson Martins.
I was in the market for a SUV/​Cross-​over. I was originally looking at the Range Rover or LR4, then at the Audi Q5, then the Mercedes M-​Class.
I owned a Mercedes Benz, and had grown tired of the brand. Not because its a bad brand, but I just wanted a different experience. Audi completely underwhelmed me. There was nothing special about it at all. Range Rover was nice, but I had so many concerns about reliability. It and the LR4 were nice and much more affordable, but the drive was rugged, an experience I wasn’t prepared for having owned a MB.
So, after leaving the Range Rover dealership in Tysons I went to Porsche to test drive the Cayenne to see if it was something I’d like. From just the look, I was underwhelmed. It was nothing attractive and I felt it was too small in size. After driving around in a sports car for 5 years, I wanted to sit up high. I wanted to know I was in a truck. The Cayenne just didn’t feel like it would give me that experience.
Anywho, I park my car out front and Peterson, a tall, lengthy, slim european looking man with wild hair approaches me. He had a slight accent, but nothing that got into the way of us communicating. He was very attentive, and he wasn’t pushy. He was actually charismatic and FUNNY! I quickly learned he has the best sense of humor!
I told him I wanted to test drive the Cayenne. He asked what color I was interested in. I said white and conveniently there was a white one up front. It was new, not even on his inventory sheet. He later learned it came in that day. He grabbed the keys, my driver’s license to make a copy, dealer tags, and off we went.
As soon as I got behind the wheel I knew this car was special. I felt regal. I felt like I was sitting in luxury. The experience wasn’t comparable to anything else I had test drove. By the time we got to the first stop light, I learned Peterson was a newbie, he had only been with the dealership for a few months. I thought he was going to take me on a quick spin like the folks at Range Rover did, who are located just around the corner. He told me he was taking me to an area where I’d really be able to see what the car could do. He found this «obstacle course» right after getting there.
Sure enough… the 3 – 5 mile stretch had bends, hills, curves… all of which showed me what the car was really working with. I ooooed and awwwwed the entire time. This vehicle definitely had me sitting up and I felt secure because it felt heavy. However, it drives like a sports car. Its the best of both worlds! The interior is designed like a airplane’s cockpit. There’s dozens of buttons to be pushed. The seating felt like I was at home on my sofa. It was luxury at its best! I knew I had to have the car before we even returned to the dealership, but refused to tell Peterson. I played like it was just OK, AIGHT (slang for «alright»).
Over the course of a few weeks, we went back and forth. Once I came in to play hard ball with negotiating the price.
Ladies and gentlemen, I need to interrupt this review by informing you that this place attracts the wealthy, people who pay for $ 100K cars with a personal check, but Peterson never made me feel like I was «poor» or «less than» just because I wanted the best deal. Quite the opposite: He always treated me like a VIP guest, greeting me at the door, bringing my mom and I refreshments as we waited, giving me his undivided attention. Peterson is the sales guy you want to deal with for the rest of your life. He is THAT committed to you having a good buying experience. I am a very observant person. I am quite confident I wouldn’t have had a buying experience anywhere close to this had I had a different salesperson. Trust me.
We didn’t seal the deal until the last day of the month (the best day to buy a car because the dealership is hungry to make their monthly numbers). I got a great deal and I know I couldn’t have done it without Peterson.
This guy comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

i did not do any business with them. but their pricing seems unreasonable for an informed consumer.
i wanted to trade in my 2013 Panamera GTS for a 2013 911 4S Cabrio. i wanted $ 100k trade in and 5% discount of MSRP on the 911.
Of the 8 dealers i approached, six accepted my terms. Porsche of Tysons offered me the worst terms for both trade in and price. they offered only $ 93,000 trade in, and the smallest discount of 2% of MSRP.
needless to say i bought the car i wanted at the price that was reasonable from the awesome people of Porsche Annapolis.

I am not one to slam businesses on Unilocal but I feel relative to Arlington, Porsche of Tysons underperformed. They were very arrogant. I bought a GL Mercedes in 2012 from their sister Dealer next door. I thought that would get me good service but they had a lot of attitude. Porsche of Arlington gave me a fm great deal in a Cayenne S. I am taking my brother in law to Arlington to buy a boxster. Big loss for Tysons.

I had a very bad experience with their service department that needs to be shared. I live in Chicago and was buying a 911 in Virginia. I had the seller drive the car to the dealership for a complete pre purchase inspection. They gave the car a glowing review and I purchased the car. When I flew to Virginia to pick up the car, it had many defects that were not revealed in the PPI. This included many obvious thing like a rust spot larger than a dime in the middle of the hood, a crack in the windshield etc. I tried to address these issues with dealership but they were not helpful. I relied on this dealership to be my eyes on a car I had never seen and they obviously let me down.

To be fair, I did receive a call from the general manager of this location after my Unilocal review. He was very apologetic about my experience and assured me if I brought my car back for service, I could deal directly with the service manager from now on rather than a service advisor. Additionally, he offered up a detail to make up for the previous service fiasco. Just a couple of days later, I received a call from the service manager to confirm and provide his contact information. So with that said — one more chance. The loaner cars are super convenient and I am hoping that dealing directly with the service manager will take me back to the service I used to receive from Porsche of Tysons Corner.

My father and I went over tonight to finalize his purchase of a Lexus GS 350. He had spent some time chatting with sales consultant Mr. Karifa Mara but was not completely sure whether he was going to finish the deal or not. This is where I come in as the second opinion. After chatting with Mr. Mara, who was very friendly and knowledgeable, the decision process was a breeze.
My father started signing away on this great deal and was introduced to Ms. Hannah Diep, who went over the final paperwork to ensure that all i’s were dotted and t’s were crossed. She too was very friendly and great to work with.
Once all the paperwork was done, Mr. Mara kindly escorted us to the GS 350 that was now ours. Mr. Kevin Boykins, the sales manager, came outside to greet us before my father and I went on our merry way home.
Great sales folks! Great deals! I am definitely coming back here when it is my turn to purchase a car!

I was interested in a used 2009 Nissan GTR, silver, 17K miles that they had listed on autotrader. I called the dealer to speak with a sales representative. I originally spoke with the sales manager (I believe Jim, but can’t swear to it). I said I was interested in the car and was in Alexandria for the day so was pretty close. He said sure great, come on in and take a look. Gave my phone number and he said a salesman would give me a call to let me know who to ask for. Got a phone call from Noosh. Answered the phone «Dr. Wade.» I am on call for weekend emergency phone calls. Talked to Noosh and said I am heading down to the dealer.
My wife and I arrive 25 minutes later and ask to speak to Noosh. Unfortunately he is busy delivering a Q7 to a person. Hung around aimlessly for 20 minutes, and finally getting antsy asked to speak with the manager. At that point Noosh gives us the keys and says have a look around the car. Great. Looked around the car with my wife started it, etc. She really like it. Another Great.
Finally after 20 more minutes Noosh comes back and I say well, the car looks good, has a clean carfax, lets take it for a drive… You know like any other used car a person is ever going to spend money on, much less $ 68,000. That is when the smarmy used car sales silliness starts. «Oh sir, we can’t possibly let you drive the car until you buy it. If you sign a contract and finance it then you can take it for a short drive. We don’t let people drive this or the used Gallardo (kinda funny because the other car I was interested in was 2004 – 2005 Gallardo).» I said, «well I’m sorry to have wasted yours and my time, I don’t buy used cars without ever driving them,» shook his hand and began to walk away.
Then more smarmy used car sales silliness. Noosh says hold on let me talk to the manager. OK, sure. My wife and I wait 10 minutes, standing in the hot sun (he took the car keys). I then walk into the Porsche showroom where he went, and he is standing and chatting with the manager pleasantly about something clearly not business related. It was like that scene in Fargo where the car salesman says he is going to talk to the sales manager about the accidental undercoating and leaves to get coffee and talk about football in the back room. Really? Seriously? I walk up and say, guys whats the hold up, its hot, and we are leaving. Then the manager gets all huffy and says that «We can’t just let anybody drive our high performance cars.» He says this with a straight face standing next to a Porsche Turbo in the showroom.
I’m sure the occasional kid with no money walks in for a joyride. Worse you do is at least take him for a drive and hope to have a future customer. But a physician and his wife, driving a brand new miata (my M3 was actaully in the shop, seriously) come in and you treat them as if there time has no value. Just say from the get go, «no test drives on that car» and save the time and aggravation. Maybe you would have sold me the Gallardo, who knows since obviously you would never let somebody drive your used car.
I ended up with a 2009 GTR from a place in Oregon 2 weeks later (bought it while on vacation). Walked in with my wife, they threw me the keys, got copies of our driver’s licenses, and we took it for a test drive. Both of us loved it. Great car. Settled on a price, and bought it. No fuss, no used car sales smarmyness.
I would not use this Audi/​Porsche dealer to look at a high dollar high performance car, at least if you expect to drive it before you buy it.
