History
Established in 2004.
From Wags to Whiskers, Inc. was conceived after I hired a woman to make midday visits to my dogs when I was working 12-hour days. I had never met a happier person. She said, «What is there not to be happy about? I spend my whole day with animals.» I wanted to be her!
I initially worked by myself but also joined an informal group of other pet sitters. We shared our experiences; we learned from one another; we helped each other.
During initial client meetings I learned people often had bad experiences when they entrusted their animal’s care to younger people. When hiring, I look for maturity. Pet sitting is a perfect retirement job or a good job for moms with older children, who do not work full time.
There is nothing better than experience for teaching you on the job skills. We have been providing in-home pet sitting and dog walking services since 2004, giving us many years of experience dealing with unique situations. Just like people, no two animals are just the same.
Meet the Business Owner
Cindy T.
Business Owner
In the spring of 2004, my husband, Richard, and I left behind our engineering careers in the high stress environment of computer technology in Massachusetts and headed west. We spent 4 months traveling and exploring the United States in a 34 foot RV with our 3-year-old chocolate Labrador Retriever — Baxter. We came to settle in Virginia Beach, where the weather is warmer, the gardening season is longer, and the pace is slower. I now pursue my dream of running my own company, focusing on my love of animals. Richard pursues his dream of achieving a single digit handicap, focusing on his love of golf. I can often be found walking the streets of Virgina Beach with a leash in hand; Richard can often be found at a golf course with club in hand.
