Preppie Pooch

After reading all the reviews about this place I thought I would give it a try because I’m so desperate to find a place to groom my doxiepoo (dachshund/​poodle mix) without going home with no cuts at all. I specifically told the girl at the reception desk to be gentle with my dog, he’s very gentle and doesn’t bite at all. I even told her the horrible experience we had at Petsmart, I took my dog home with a lot of cuts all over his body. So, the girl took my dog from me and took him inside. My daughter just saw the girl put my dog down on the floor and left him there. She came out to the reception area where my daughter was waiting and told my daughter that there was a $ 15 waiting fee. After an hour we came back and just waited in the car in the parking lot. At 2:45 my phone rang and was told that my dog was ready. I was so excited to see my dog. It was a different girl who brought my dog out. I guess she was the one who groomed him. I asked the girl how my dog was and she said that he moved a lot other than that he was good. I specifically told the girl at the reception desk when I dropped off my dog that I wanted the hair on his ears cut because it was too long. Apparently, they only cut very little cuz the hair was still long. I should have checked my dog for any cuts before we left because he started licking his front left leg and that’s an indication that he’s got a cut or cuts in that area. Sure thing there was a couple of cuts. I checked him a couple of days later because he kept on licking his leg. I would never bring my dog back to this place!!! I should have trusted my instincts. No wonder a couple of dogs that were brought in by their owners tried to get out of that place. My daughter and I observed this while we were waiting in the car in the parking lot. If you’re ever thinking about trying this place think again or observe how the animals are reacting when their owners are bringing them in.

I love this place and so does my Labradoodle! I’ve been taking him here since he was a pup (he’s now 5)! Very clean. dogs get to play with one another. Prices are fair. And ace always comes home with an awesome haircut (always what I’ve asked for as well).

Friendly staff and great service. Took my terrier mix and basset hound today and picked them up within 2 hours. My terrier is anxious and isn’t the friendliest but they handled her very well and she was happy when I picked her up. Both are looking and smelling so good and prices are reasonable. We will definitely be back!

The dogs were getting stinky and needed some TLC. My friends have been recommending the place and the services offered. We decided to give it a try. I made an appointment the week before and all they requested was to bring proof of rabies shots for my fur babies.
We came in for our appointment and they took them to the back. The ladies told us they’d give us a call as soon as they were ready. Husband and I took advantage to check out the local spots. We got a call about an hour and a half after their appointment time. We were pretty impressed with how fast they were since all of that included a bath, brushing, nail trim, ear cleaning and we decided to spoil the dogs with a spa package including a paw soak and blueberry facial.
The spa package was well worth it! I keep smelling both my dogs since the shampoo they use is probably the best ever on my dogs. I’m pretty much getting high off their smell right as we speak. We got the paw soak for both and can’t help but touching their paws. I think both husband and I want to keep them as clean as possible to make this awesome smell of theirs last long.
My big pups are both lab mixes so at the end of the day — it ended up being over $ 100 for both since it included that spa service. I think we’d come back just for how awesome they smell and that my youngest pup was so knocked out the rest of the night. We’ll probably keep it to just a regular bath grooming and keep the spa stuff for an extra treat. I only wish this place was closer to home, but it gave a good reason to check other places around the area.

Ditto to everything that Jennifer D said. I get quite ecstatic when we send our little monsters (my endearing name for my dogs) off to get groomed. I’m that weird dog owner that likes to smell my dogs when they get cleaned. This place get them smelling oh so fresh.
My favorite part of their spa experience is when they are defurminated. These monsters shed like crazy and my house is always full of dog hair. This process eliminates the excess hair for about a week so I can spoon my puggle to sleep and carry my chihuahua around without having to worry about getting dog hair on my precious WWE shirts.
They got the full package today: bath, nail trim, ears cleaned, defurminated, a nose and palm balm, and their teeth brushed.
The palm balm is neat and now we like to play with their paws. I hope the doggies appreciate their pedicure.
They did forget to clean one of the ears of my puggle. His big floppy ears accumulate a lot of dirt and I noticed that they may have overlooked his left ear. No big deal. Probably a oversight.
We will take them monthly around the time we get our house cleaned!

I came across Preppie Pooch while searching on Unilocal for local, non-​chain groomers in Virginia Beach. Making a next-​day appointment for our puggle and chihuahua was a breeze. Upon arriving, the entrance was clean and inviting; it contained the front desk, chairs and retail items (I now know where to get a dog-​friendly birthday cake!). I asked to take a sneak peek at the spa/​grooming area while taking the dogs back there. We were greeted by a sweet Cavalier King Charles spaniel. Non-​spade/​non-​neutered dogs, including a Yorkie guest, had to be separated for obvious reasons. Our doggies had some social/​play time before their grooming began. I still felt a little nervous as if I was dropping off our kids at day care, and I called back to inform them how to carry my puggle because of his history of a broken leg. Two hours later, I received a phone call that they were finished with their grooming. They were both happy and wagging their tails, and loved the attention they received! The staff was super friendly toward my doggies and me. Their appointment included a bath-​only grooming, nail trim, ear cleaning and de-​shedding/​furminator. Their coats were shiny and soft with no shedding, and they smelled like fresh, baby powder. Their daddy was also impressed with the results and the price, and he said that the doggies can go there once a month! :)

I took my malti-​poo Bentley there today, they did a great job, he smells great and he wasn’t there all day! Dropped him off at 10 picked him up at 12. He was also super happy when I picked him up, definitely going back.

Took my Maltese today for the first time. Loved it! Outstanding service and reasonable prices. Molly wasn’t stressed at all and got to have some play time. Wasn’t locked in a cage. Very comfortable environment. She was treated right! I will go back.

So glad I found you guys. I’m so happy with the service and how friendly everyone was. they are a dog sap but the groomed my bunny and she looks amazing!!! Definitely going back

I really like this place! I found it on Unilocal awhile back when I needed a groomer. Goldendoodles need a lot of grooming! The staff is always nice and friendly. They have a cute little store upfront to purchase things for your pet. It’s always clean and smells nice. My dog always seems happy to go in and happy when I pick her up. They do a great job cutting my dogs hair! The only reason I do not give it 5 stars is because it is very pricey. So, I only go occasionally. They offer spa treatments and even birthday treats for your pet. If you don’t mind the high prices and want to spoil your pet… this is the place to go!

Great experience! I don’t often write reviews, but Preppie Pooch did such a fantastic job, I had to! My husband and I live in DC but were in Virginia Beach for a few days and, after having too much fun at the beach, our 6-​month old goldendoodle (golden retriever /​poodle mix) puppy needed a bath and trim. We took him to Joey, the store manager who also specializes in grooming goldendoodles, and she truly did a great job on our pup’s first haircut. She left him cute and fluffy but very neatly trimmed and clean :) And he seems to have had a great time playing with the other dogs there! I highly recommend Preppie Pooch and will definitely be bringing our pup back when we are in town next.

Very thankful I found this place! I have been to a few other grooming spots in Virginia Beach in the last year searching for a good place for my boys. Preppie Pooch is awesome! The staff is so friendly! It is easy to make an appointment. Of course the best part is how awesome my dogs look! They gave an excellent lion cut to my pomeranian. They also gave an excellent haircut to my long haired 70lb mutt. :-) They were very accommodating to my work schedule too. I am so thankful to have found them!

Both my husky and akita-​sharpei mix love coming here! Both of them come home happy and smelling nice. Ladies at this place do an incredible job with the de-​shed treatment! My husky doesn’t shed for couple weeks after visit. Also the place is clean and doesnt smell like a «wet dog» ! It’s so so worth it!!!

I have been taking my dogs to Preppie Pooch for 3 years. I took them for their summer cut and Rebecca shaves them. One of my dogs sustained an injury while in her care. I went back with the vet bill and she screamed and yelled and keep poking me with her finger. If she can go this crazy an unhappy customer, what does she do if an animal acts up.
I have filed a complaint with the BBB, the National Dog Groomers Association, WVEC did a news story on it, and have filed a claim against her insurance company for the vet bills.
I think it is sad that rather than do the right thing, by taking care of the vet bills of my dog that sustained injury while in her care is just reprehensible.

At the end of August I am moving out of Virginia and this is the only place I will really miss. I have been coming here almost three years now and I get the same great service every time. I have a very large Alaskan Malamute, he is a big dog with lots of undercoat. I get the de-​shed treatment and it is worth every penny! My dog comes back smelling and looking beautiful. He acts like a brat when I try to brush him but somehow the groomers there get out every tangle and extra piece of fluff. In an unsuccessful attempt to groom my malamute ourselves, my husband gave up after just trying to wet him down. He said to call and make an emergency appointment, Preppie Pooch is worth every penny.
My dog has been to groomers in Idaho, Montana and Washington (places where you expect them to be experienced with northern breeds) and Preppie Pooch has done a better job every time.
I really cannot say enough good things about how amazingly talented everyone who works at Preppie Pooch is. If they can make my difficult to brush, northern breed dog look gorgeous, imagine what they can do for your dog!
I’m really going to miss Preppie Pooch.

Excellent Job, wonderful place, my Chinese Crested came out of there looking like a million bucks and was so happy to be there she barely wanted to come to me when I walked in the door. She looks like a movie star and acts like one too now.
