I’ve had my eye on this place for a long time. I’ve been wanting to do Krav Maga for years but the timing never worked out until now.
A couple of weeks ago they posted a new 6-​week challenge class that they were starting for ladies only that would incorporate fitness and Krav Maga. Timing was right so I signed up and am LOVING IT.
Parking: Oy veh. Because it’s in the In-​n-​Out strip mall parking is a nightmare at night, unless you get there before 6 p.m.
But there’s lots of parking along Via Centre and behind the building.
The venue: There are three classrooms (there might be four). The rooms are large and well light. The only bummer is that unlike other gyms, there are no fans or anything to get the air moving.
The equipment is well maintained and there are wipes in each room.
The women’s bathroom has a shower and I’ve seen toiletries on the counter, including mouthwash. It’s clean and well stocked.
The instructors: I’ve taken classes with Jill, Vernon, and Mike. Jill is totally kick a**. Not to say that Vernon and Mike aren’t, but Jill rocks! Everyone is knowledgable and patient.
Classes appear to be small (maybe 20 maximum) which is great because the instructors can help anyone who needs extra help.
And the best thing about the classes: they are never the same. The name might be the same but the routines and what you do each time is something new. So you won’t get bored and your body is constantly challenged.
What’s different about MMA than a regular gym is that everyone wants to be there. No one is showing up because they paid their dues and feels obligated. People are happy to be there and stay a long time.
It’s not uncommon for people to spend several hours (taking different classes) each day.
They also offer children’s classes. And parents bring their kids who do their homework at the tables in the lobby while their parents work out.
They don’t have fancy facilities or amenities. So if you’re looking for that, go elsewhere. But if you want a place you can feel comfortable working out where you won’t be pressured to buy a trainer package or some other upsell, and you want to learn Krav Maga, this is the place.
