Red Lion Inn & Suites Walla Walla

I stayed here on a package with Expedia. When I saw the hotel they were offering was a Red Lion I was pleasantly surprised! I used to manage a Red Lion so I felt like I knew the standards I would get as a customer and felt comfortable with what to expect. I was wrong.
I drove up and was confused to find the outdoor room entrance style that is typical of a Super 8 or skmilar motel. Immediately I knew I was not getting what I thought. Check in was great, very friendly and she let me check in and gets keys before the room was ready under the agreement I wouldnt go to the room for another hour. I came back 4 hours later… there was a pillow missing from the bed and no «Do not Disturb» sign. Fine. I didnt bother calling.
The TV in my room didnt have any movie channels which I thought was odd but assumed that the amenity was no longer available. Fine. Around 10:30 the local channels (NBC, ABC, etc) stopped working. I assumed some sort of glitch with the provider had happened and waited until the morning to call in case it came back on. It didnt change. I called on my way out to tell the front desk of fhe issue I was having with the channels. I was told a call would be made to the cable company. I came back 5 hours later and saw that housekeeping came in and took out my trash and replaced the dirty towels (bed not made up) but the TV still didnt have all the channels. I called the front desk to see what was going on. A very nice girl seemed surprised I was having the issue, clearly no communication was made and at this point I doubt any calls were made.
The very nice desk agent offered to move me down the hall and came up and brought me keys. She felt it was the best solution as she was by herself at that point and the issue may require the box to be reset on the TV, etc. Who knows if its even fixable. The new room had all of the local channels and I was surprised at how many movie channels were available that I never got the chance to watch the night before.
Something else odd that happened was when I arrived back at the hotel on my first day… there was a huge leak in the carport and drywall tape was hanging down. Chunks of drywall were coming down and got all over my car. I assumed a bathtub was overflowing and called the front desk to let them know. The drywall tape hung down that whole day. Just another event that made me concerned about the quality of this place. The doors to the units in the hallway that seem to require a room key for security are pointless as the doors dont close all the way to latch closed-​I didnt have to use my card at all to get in. Didnt make me feel that safe as a woman travelling alone.

For an older hotel, this is very well maintained, the staff is very friendly and were able to put us into a room that had excellent sound buffering. The breakfast room is a good size and the food is better than others I’ve experienced. The location is excellent with plenty of eateries less than 2 blocks away and Safeway grocery directly across the street. I would certainly use this facility again.

Checked in tonight. Check in was easy and the clerk was nice. Place is very basic but clean. Cinder block painted. The problems started when I got to my room. It was very cold as the heat was not on at all and it’s in the 20’s outside. The heater really struggled to get the room warm. Never really did. Front desk didn’t have any other heaters so I decided to see if the heater would do the job. I called down again to the front desk to just get another blanket and she said she didn’t know where housekeeping kept them so I was out of luck. Didn’t offer to get one from another room.
Can you imagine that the management doesn’t show someone who is alone on the site some of the basics like where essentials are in the hotel? Don’t train them to help the customer? Have they every heard of cross training? Invest 15 minutes in training and have some heaters just in case something happens like this.
If it’s not cold, it might be ok. If it’s cold outside, find another place or prepare to be cold.

Folks. Look at the older reviews. This is now The Red Lion Inn. This place is great. Over the top friendly. The rooms are small but comfortable.
Everything works as expected. The only thing I would change is I wished they had yogurt with the continental breakfast. Enjoy your stay!

The beds at the Red Lion in Walla Walla are luxury hotel quality. We have stayed twice and would definitely return. The pool was pleasant and uncrowded. A nice simple breakfast is provided. The staff is friendly

The only reason this place is getting 3 stars is because of the front desk staff, otherwise I would have rated it a 1. This place we chose because it was cheaper, however was not happy with the room. Although it didn’t look terrible walking in, my mind changed when I looked at the bed. Little black hairs everywhere, on the top, inside, on the sheets, on the pillow… it was gross. Crumbs were all over the desk chair and the bathroom was gross.
The front desk staff, Rex, was very nice. Very personable and friendly. My boyfriend went and spoke to him about our room & he was willing to move us or let us have the option to check out. We opted to check out because the place just gave me the chills, but Rex was cool about it. He’s probably the only good thing about that place.

A bit of a disappointment.
Older but revamped hotel. We liked the colorful interior and didn’t mind the old-​school heavy brick with exterior access design. But the king bed was TERRIBLE (worn down on one side and too hard on the other), the heating/​ac unit was mounted to the ceiling and was so loud it woke us every time it turned on, and the sliding glass door had something wrong with the lock mechanism and it was a struggle to open every time.
The grounds in general looked tired and needed a lot of maintenance. We noticed a number of sliding doors off their runners and the pool area was filthy and in need of a deep clean.
Very friendly and courteous staff, though we asked them to put a fridge in our room on our second day there and though the front desk gal confirmed they had plenty and would take care of it, they never followed through.
Excellent location. Literally just a few blocks to most of the highlights of the downtown area and only ¼ mile from the freeway.
Breakfast included and free parking.
We know they’re amidst (or at the tale end of?) renovation and honestly would give it a second try if it weren’t for the terrible bed. That was a deal breaker :(

This place was pretty awful. It’s decorated in a absolutely wonderful blend of yellow, brown and purple. The beds are rock hard and unpleasant to sleep on because of their lumpiness. But, if you are visiting Whitman College, it is very convenient in location. I wouldn’t stay here again and I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone.

This appeared like a old motel. I booked it on Priceline. When we rolled in, I thought, «oh, no!» But, what a nice surprise! It has obviously had a serious face lift! It’s completely non-​smoking, updated, new carpets, comfy beds, with very modern interiors. They have really done a nice job! And for the price? Fabulous!!! It is only a block from the adorable downtown and Whitman College. I would stay here again!

Central location, cost, and comfort make this a definite find. The staff were very pleasant, the bed comfortable, the facility quiet. The complementary breakfast was adequate, and if not to your liking, there are several excellent breakfast spots nearby. It’s also wishing stumbling distance to all the downtown tasting rooms! Will stay here again next time I’m in Walla Walla! Excellent free wi-​if, as well!

I was pleasantly surprised how nice the rooms were considering the age of the hotel. The staff was very friendly and the complimentary breakfast was quite good, offering eggs, meats, waffles and the usual cold fare. The location is close to the main street in Walla Walla so perfect as far as a central location for walking to local restaurants, shopping and wineries.

I stayed here for months for work. It was a comfy bed, fluffy pillows, nice view of a crystal clean pool. I could make the room dark, the AC was nice white noise and made for a very restful sleep.
It is located right down town and so it was easy to walk the quaint city streets at night, stop by a bar and listen to live music and eat at one of the amazing restaurants downtown. Safeway is right behind it if you want to just grab a snack open the blinds and sit on the patio.
Jeff, the manager was delightful and sincerely wanted my stay to be wonderful. Rex always had a smile and had great customer service skills. There were two ladies at the front desk who were delightful. Sorry I didn’t remember their names. The nice red haired cook, made some kind of egg taco looking things every morning which were nice on the first day.
There are still cinderblock walls but they were painted bright and cheerful. The outside has been painted too and no longer looks like the pictures in these reviews. 212 is a huge room that they graciously gave me my last days. Thanks all — you all feel like family. It was a great value too. Some nights were about $ 65 depending on season.
The only thing negative I have to say is that I had to come into the office nightly to recharge my key. It was great to see the staff every night so I didn’t mind much.

THE WORST SERVICE AND ACCOMODATIONS EVER
I can not even begin to explain how awful this motel is and how horrible their employees are. My boyfriend and walked in and right back out because there were bugs in the room and it was FILTHLY.
Also — they charged our card twice and Still have yet to refund it. save your self the hassle and head down the road to the La Quinta or the Best Western.

Go ahead and stay in room 221!!! Just watch out for the blood sucking big ass spider under the bed by the sliding glass door… Oh and if you get bit do not complain to management as they will have a bitch lawyer call you to tell you that your SOL…

Although this place has been painted, the cinder block walls can’t keep the temperature constant. We had to keep the heater on, which was more like a rickety airplane engine in our room. It was loud and louder. I think there may be better options in this cute little town.

Decided to give this place a try despite some of the reviews. Glad we did. The room was clean and updated. All rooms are now remodeled and they were finishing up renovations on the breakfast room and other common areas. More attention could be paid to details such as landscape, exterior conditions (sweeping) and staff hanging around outside the lobby area smoking. Overall staff was friendly and helpful. We look forward to returning and experiencing the next phase of renovation. Four stars based on rate of $ 79 night.

Note that this place is undergoing a major renovation right now, and the new rooms are well appointed with marble vanities, flat screen TVs, and more, although the cinder block walls were strangely kept and painted bright yellow and purple. The new pool area is great, and the breakfast passable. The front desk staff were excellent, and for the price /​location this place can’t be beat!

Do not stay here — there’s a reason this place is ranked dead last for Walla Walla hotels on TripAdvisor. A good friend of ours put us up here in May along with another dozen or so friends, based on it’s location — walking distance to downtown and his house. With friends like this… It was Spring Release, so all the cute B&Bs and other hotels were booked. But I’m pretty sure this rates in the top 2 worst hotels I’ve ever stayed in.
Where do I start — the outside is depressing motel style, the landscape is mostly weeds, the pool was filled w/​green slime, the hot tub was drained, the rooms all have cinder block walls and do not look or feel very clean, or that they’ve been updated since the 70s. The room below us had a bowl of food on the patio that had mold and spiderwebs growing on it, and dusty kids’ toys that looked like the patio hadn’t been cleaned in weeks or months.
Oh — and then to kick it off, the Inn was home of the largest meth lab bust in Walla Walla County history, which happened a week after we checked out, and the motel manager was arrested as an accomplice. Nice.

This place was exactly what you’d expect for $ 47. and for that price, I’m ok with all of the downfalls, of which there are many.
Electric baseboard heating.
Cinder block walls.
Old. Old. Old.
Horrible beds.
You get the picture. But again — for the price, and the location, I’m willing to put up with a lot for an evening of wine tasting in Walla Walla.

This hotel is now called the Walla Walla Vineayrd Inn. It exemplifies the rule that you can take the HoJo out of the name, but you can NEVER TAKE THE HOJO OUT OF THE HOTEL!
This was one of the most classicly hilarious yet frustrating hotel horror stories in my recent past. Let me spin you a tale.
So its my anniversary on the 4^th of July. The wife and I decide to go to Walla Walla to do some wine tasting. Now, we are not people of great means, but hey, its the anniversary, so I try to book us into the Marcus Whitman (the Marc), which is the swank hotel located right at the corner of Everything and Everything Else in downtown Walla Walla. The wife says «don’t waste our money on a hotel, let’s just stay at the cheap place…» As a properly whipped husband, I do my duty and book us into the «Walla Walla Vineyard Inn» for about $ 100 less per night. I mean, hey, its got a pool, the doors probably lock, so whatever… we can spend time at the pool instead of in our room.
So we show up on the 4^th, reservation in hand, and we arrive at what looks like a run down old concrete motel, situated on an alleyway. Awesome, I think. We proceed to check in, and the desk clerk was plenty friendly. Once checked in and committed to the charge, she then informs us «oh, the pool is out of commission, and so is the jacuzzi.» WTF!!! This is exactly what we didn’t want to hear. We’re in sun-​baked Walla Walla, for chrissakes! You specifically advertise a pool! What are we going to do when the tasting rooms close?
So we suck it up, realizing that if we want to cool off, we’re going to be in a lukewarm bathtub, and proceed to glorious room 213. We open the door and find the classic, campy, 1970’s style furnishings. This place was straight out of one of those classic 70’s design magazines. Terrible. Small bed, smells like smoke (we asked for non-​smoking), and we are smack dab right over the pool. I walk out and find a bright green pool staring back at me (we were told that the fence was not regulation, and that’s why we couldn’t use the pool. Yeah, sure).
I laugh to myself as I think about the super-​luxury I could be enjoying at my other hotel. There’s nothing quite like a dip in the pool after a 4.5 hour drive across the dust-​belt of south-​central Washington. Oh well.
I will capsule-​summarize the rest of our experience here:
12am July 4^th: An unknown number of drunk people decide to yell at each other in the courtyard.
1am July 4^th, a group of rowdy teens decides to throw a screaming party in the green pool. Jumping, diving, splashing, shrieking, and everything in-​between. My annoyance is only outweighed by my astonishment that these kids want to swim in that nasty green pool. I was later told that the week prior, the pool was black, and they have been loading it with chemicals to kill whatever algae it was off. Enjoy your cancer, kids!
8am July 5^th, the housekeeping staff (or, more likely, one of the housekeeping staff and 2 of her off-​work or out-​of-​work friends who are hanging around killing time) decide to congregate poolside and have a conversation using, well, let’s just say OUTSIDE VOICES! Seriously. If it was only loud, it would have been bearable, but it was an INANE conversation too. Mind boggling (and none too pleasing to a mild hangover at 8 am).
10am July 6^th: ESCAPE! We escaped unharmed (except for our post-​wine-​tasting hangover). We were actually able to sleep in a bit this morning even though the hospitality staff was rolling some huge cart around and around the pool patio and slamming things around (starting ~8 am again).
It’s so obvious that this place used to be a HoJo. Don’t let the fancy new name fool you.
Had the pool and jacuzzi been working (the jacuzzi just needed a new sand filter! HOW HARD IS THAT TO FIX???), this might have been a 2 star review. I feel cheated. I will never be back. Do yourself a favor, and learn from my mistakes.
So, the moral of this story is: Sometimes its worth spending a bit more on your hotel, especially when you’re going to be in a place like Walla Walla.
