History
Established in 1996.
Art and Science first opened its doors, January 2, 1996 in Lafayette, CA. Its sister store opened in Walnut Creek in 2007. We have enjoyed a strong, faithful following in the Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda areas for many years. Our draw from the Alamo, San Ramon, Danville areas led to our opening in Walnut Creek. That coupled with the opportunity of a great location with private parking at out own back door gave birth to our second location. Should you need a referral, we have strong relationships with local Optometrists for your prescription and contact lenses and Ophthamologists for your medical concerns.
Meet the Business Owner
Anna F.
Business Owner
I was in grad school at night and needed a day job, so I took a receptionist position in an optometrist office. When the optician was off, I somehow became the one that covered the position. I loved the work. It was just enough science to occupy my left brain. It offered walls of fashion to satisfy my right brain. I made it about care-giving because in my mind I was not a salesperson. This filled my heart. All the while, all of these parts really being about education which was my passion and course of study in grad school. I backed into a profession I love to this day.
I grew up knowing about a kitchen drawer that served as my mother’s vault of new prescription eyeglasses she could not wear. She’d come home with new ones, open the drawer, make room for one more pair and return to using her old ones. My Mother had a very high prescription and only found satisfaction in one pair she wore for well over ten years. I now know WHY that happens and HOW to keep it from happening to others.
