Gordon’s Smog Test and Lube

Nothing in life is fair — except Gordon’s Smog and Lube! I have been coming to Gordon for 4+ yrs because he is one of the nicest small business owners I have ever encountered. On one occasion I had my battery disconnected and went to get the car smogged, but it wouldn’t pass until it had been driven long enough for the ECU to be happy. He informed me that I had to drive it on the freeway for ~25 miles. I made the round trip and it still had not cleared for a pass. I drove another 30 miles and returned, and finally it passed. 3 tests in 1 day, same price. He gives this fair treatment to all of his customers and that’s why I recommend him to everyone I know.

Gordon is the owner and the smog guy and takes care of his customers. his prices or maybe a little bit high and they don’t have that bait and switch just to get you in the door. But he also won’t waste your time and if your car won’t pass smog will do a free recheck.
I get all my car smog there. an he prefers you to have your paperwork when you come in your DMV paperwork. He has a little office to sit in for the community is a light industrial area if you want to take a walk.
It’s worth the trip to Gordons shop on third Avenue much better than taking multiple trips to some ripoff spot

I took my awesome 2001 New Beetle today and Gordon is such an awesome guy! I did not have an appt but he got me right in and in 15 minutes it was all done. This is the second time in less than four years that I go to Gordon’s Smog Test and Lube and I leave a satisfied customer.

Gordon will not be the cheapest, BUT THAT IS A GOOD THING. The old adage «you get what you pay for» is very true!!! He is extremely honest and will go above and beyond to answer any questions and explain things to you. I have taken three different cars to him for smog checks and one-​off fixes, and every time he exceeds my expectations.
He is a one-​man shop so he has to make money somehow to support his family — I will continue to support the local, family-​owned businesses!

Great service from a nice person. It was efficient and fairly priced

Four years after my first review, I’ve brought the car back twice, most recently in June 2014, and the service was just as good.

Back again 2 years later and had the same experience: in and out without any reservation or notice. Totally satisfied. I’m sure there are better deals, but this is the most hassle-​free automotive experience one could wish for.

Gordon did a great job on my smog check today. Simple and no fuss. Coming back next week with my son’s car.

I was quoted $ 80 for a smog check, and I found one elsewhere for $ 33, out the door. Really? What a ripoff for anyone who goes there.

Gordon is a real pro and willing to point out (and help with) non-​smog problems. His price is a bit higher than some discount shops, but as they say, you get what you pay for.

Gordon was very customer service oriented. At first my car failed. He gave me some good advice on how I could fix the problem myself. After taking his advice, my car runs better and passed smog. Thanks Gordon!

Like all the other reviews… I had a great experience taking my truck here and having it smogged. Very honest, nice and decent guy. My car passed but not by much. He told me that it appeared my exhaust-​side spark seemed to be «missing» and suggested a new cap and rotor might resolve issue. It did and it runs better now. Thanks Gordon!

Excellent service. In addition to being a very nice guy, Gordon is knowledgeable, efficient, and reasonably-​priced. We have been coming to him for our smog checks for a few years now, and plan to continue.

I’ve used Gordon several times for smog checks and would give him 5 stars for that service. The last time he actually bought our car and agreed to pay and change the registration as part of the deal. It has now been 3 months and he still has not done so. In the meantime, whoever is driving the car is running toll booths, red lights, and parking illegally. We get the fines and tickets and have to send copies of the release of liability everytime this happens. Today a bill for $ 480 for a tow-​away showed up! I recommend you do not sell your car to Gordon.

I ended up at this place after checking out the Unilocal reviews. And, everyone was right. Gordon is friendly, experienced, and honest. It was a quick and painless experience, how a smog check should be.

It’s pretty simple when you think about it… As far as getting your vehicle smogged, you basically want someone who is efficient, knowledgeable, and pleasant to deal with.
My visit to Gordon’s Smog Test and Lube was all of that. Gordon is a nice guy, who clearly earns all the business he gets (and more). He also pointed out some items that didn’t affect my ability to smog, but that he thought I should have looked at. Free advice from a mechanic that he didn’t have a chance to earn money on? I was in utter shock, but I managed a smile and thanked him (and went and got it fixed).
In any case, if you need more out of a Smog Test facility, I’d be surprised. This is the place to go in Walnut Creek.

A+++ Fast and Efficient Thx Thx Thx

I had an obscure problem with my Honda CRV that my regular mechanic couldn’t diagnose. He sent me to Gordon’s for readout from my computer. I drove over, waited while Gordon completed a smog check on a red Ferrari, then he took my car in immediately, did the diagnosis with his equipment, printed it out, handed it to me, and refused any payment. When I need a smog check, I’m going back to Gordon. A decent guy with an extremely clean shop.

Really nice guy. My car accelerator pedal was sticking making the smog test difficult to complete. He took off the housing around my pedal and attempted to loosen the pedal to complete the test. After some time he got it done and my car passed.
I would highly recommend this place if you are faced with the gut shot task of having to get your car smogged on a Sat. afternoon

When my dealership unsuccessfully spent three hours trying to figure out how to get my car to pass my out-​of-​state smog test, they sent me to Gordon’s.
Thank goodness — he was competent, kind, and efficient. He was surprised that there seemed to be a problem with my gas cap, as my car is about three years old. But he sent me across the street to Napa Auto Parts so I could pick up a new cap and save myself $ 10. For the test and certificate, he charged $ 90 less $ 10 for some discount I was unaware of.
I also asked if he was willing to help me take my old plates off, as the Chicago winters had apparently rusted the bolts in place. Not only did he take them off fee-​free, he sent me home with some bolts and washers to aid me in reattaching my new plates.
I believe Gordon also does oil changes — the guy at Napa informed me that Gordon was «the nicest man,» and that he’s the only person he takes his car to.
