Any hotel that’s infested with toxic black mold gets one star. At least, that’s what it looks like. The first room I had reeked of mildew. When I asked to switch they looked at me like I was crazy. The second room was clean. Until I used the restroom the next morning and found black stuff all above the shower. Then they moved me to a third room. Where there was more black stuff. Lovely. Checked out as soon as possible. I can’t believe they want you to pay $ 300/night to be poisoned by mold. Not to mention look at you like you’re crazy when you bring it up. The only helpful person in the whole place was the maintenance man. He says it’s not mold, but I beg to differ.

For a mid range priced hotel, the service was untypically low price. The first room we were given was not cleaned — beds nor made. The second room had a non working AC unit. The third, as they say, was the charm. Then, our friends’ room developed a water leak in the bathroom faucet. VERY disappointed!

This hotel has a fairly good location, and although it is a little fast north for easy access to downtown, it is close to 680 and BART. There are a few nearby restaurants and convenience stores for groceries and necessities, but nothing as nice as there is downtown.
The room was clean and stocked. The soaps, shampoo, and conditioner were from Bath & Body Works and smelled like they were more suited for a teenager or someone with a less than adequate sense of smell. Some nicer, more neutral scented amenities would have been appreciated.
The breakfast was pretty decent. There was more than the typical fruit and pastries, with hot options like oatmeal, eggs, pancakes, and bacon. If you are careful you can eat a Whole 30 or healthy breakfast here without starving.
My room was facing the pool which was lively on one of the two days that I was there but the party did leave at a decent hour. It was a nice looking pool, if I had my suit I would have gone down myself.
My only big complaint is that you cannot close the drapes. When you’ve flown in on a red eye, or need to sleep during daylight hours, this is awful. Even trying to sleep past sunrise was impossible. This is never relaxing and I don’t understand why hotels do this. Honestly, this is the deal breaker for me.
However, after reading reviews on Unilocal I was concerned about the safety of my moving truck, but the front desk did let me park my truck out front of the entrance where it would be safe. That let me at least sleep a little better.

I really like this hotel. I come here to spend time with my hubby. I get a really good rate so I like to come here and get away from the home life, spend time with my love.
The staff here are so personable and nice. I had an incident and was approached by one of the staff. She directly spoke to me about any issues I might have had in previous stays. Donna took the time to speak to me personally and was so kind. I really appreciate the effort she took.
They make really yummy cookies here during the late afternoon /early evening. Try one.
This property is clean and cozy. Breakfast Is full and hot. I will come back.

Horrible experience. Don’t Stay Here.
They cancelled my non-refundable paid in full reservation (made through Southwest Air) because I didn’t call to tell them I’d be delayed. Adryan, the desk clerk did not wish to help me. He told me that he couldn’t reinstate my reservation and that I could only re-book at additional cost, essentially paying for the room twice. I was left without a room on Christmas day which coincidentally happened to be for a business trip.
I insisted Adryn get a manager who could help, which he finally did after I placed a call to Southwest in attempt to get help. Again, this was on Christmas day when many companies are not working. Finally a manager arrived and reinstated my reservation after this very stressful ordeal.
Additionally, the refrigerator and heater buzzed all night making it impossible to sleep soundly. The heater did not provide the correct temperature half the time, blowing cold air. The coffee pot cord did not reach the outlet. There was no place to plug in my phone near the bed as the extension cord would not fit an additional plug. And the bath towels are flimsy.
Breakfast was fair but that does not warrant a stay here. No where even close.
I will never stay here again!
Stay anywhere but here.

We love it. Reasonably priced, clean, modern rooms, good service, wifi, breakfast and a friendly staff. The rooms are spacious enough — our family of four were comfortable in our room with two double beds. There are several budget chains that quote cheaper prices but wind up pricing out at the same or higher once any «extra,» such as wifi, is added and smell and look as if they cater to fugitives. One caveat, I don’t know about summer prices, but we are staying here for Christmas for $ 120 per day and $ 99.00 for Sunday.

I have stayed at this Holiday Inn Express several time for business in the Oakland area. It is always clean and comfortable, with easy access to the Bay Area. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t plan on doing any work on your laptop as the wireless connection is worse than the old dial-up systems. I would give them «5 stars,» but so many people need the Internet connection for work while traveling these days they really need to do something about the connection speed. It is an easy and inexpensive fix; there really is no reason it shouldn’t be addressed.

what a dump. after checking in, we were instructed to park on the side of the hotel since our vehicle was too large to fit in their subterranean garage. uncomfortable with that, we asked to be moved to a room where we could view our car since it was not in their garage (the side of the hotel isn’t even their property). we were assured that it was alright, they had security cameras, as well as a security guard who walked the parking lot.
this morning? Windows smashed & any and everything worth any value to the thieves taken. where is the security guard? the new guy at the front desk doesn’t know. do they have cameras? no. they never have over there. we were lied to. we were misled and we stayed there under false pretenses. the police came out and confirmed THIS HOTEL HAS PARKING LOT THEFT REGULARLY. 5 other cars just last night… in the garage. who robs cars with the alarms going off? someone who knows the security guard isn’t watching.
DO NOT STAY HERE. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS. THE EMPLOYEES WILL STEAL YOUR STUFF. TRUST ME!

I like Hi Express hotels and this hotel is in a great location, but…
I wished i checked Unilocal before booking because I also stayed in room 228 (as did an other reviewer). Hwy Noise was very noticeable and yes it is a single pane window facing the 680. Walls paper thin. People in room along bed wall were up until 330am and their words were very audible through the walls. They weren’t yelling or anything just conversation level voices which in any decent hotel would not be audible in the next room. Horrible night sleep. Not the hotels fault for people yapping until 330am, but sound insulation is their responsibility. This place needs to address this asap. I will never stay in this hotel again because of the poor sound insulation.

I stayed here recently while visiting SF. This hotel was great value. The hotel is clean, and the rooms are large and come with free WIFI. The pool and jacuzzi area is a little small but there weren’t many guests using it at the time so it’s perfect for my small family! The hotel itself is located about 25 – 30 mins away (driving) from Downtown SF. The hotel staff were pleasant and helpful, and the breakfast was AMAZING! Huge selection and great food! Overall the value for money warrants this hotel a 5* rating for me! Would recommend and stay again!

Very impressed with this location. The hotel is a bit older but spotless and clean. The beds were comfy, the staff was warm, and everything in the room worked as advertised. The hot and cold on the faucets was backward and that took some getting used to but hey, no major issue there.
The hotel has free Wi-Fi and decent televisions. The rooms also have a tablet that you can fire up and it shows local amenities, internet searches, etc. Nice touch and an upgrade from the old binders that most hotels still use. Somehow this was easier and more convenient.
Parking is a bit tough in this neck of California but the hotel has great parking underneath in a garage that is available to customers. Beware the alleys on the sides of the hotel. They look inviting to park but there are some signs stating you will be towed. Somehow I think someone may be making a living on those alleys.
This place is very centrally located and there are activity and dining options very close by to suit just about everyone. Great freeway access and easy to get in and out of.

What more could you want from a Holiday Inn than a clean bed, hot breakfast, and friendly service? While the HI wasn’t my first option, all the other hotels were booked. But I’m glad I stayed here because it was a great deal for the same amenities elsewhere. I haven’t spent a ton of time at the hotel but overall, it’s clean and quiet. Seems like there is a bit of a parking issue for guests but I haven’t run into that myself.
The hotel is closely located to downtown Walnut Creek and a short drive from all the stores and restaurants.
I would definitely stay here again!

Booked a couple days before I had to stay, so they raised the rates to $ 245 a night, I have a state rate so I was told I was lucky to only pay $ 189 a night. I write this on day 1 of my 2 night stay, after finding 3 roaches so far in this room. I will not be returning! After complaining about the rate with roaches to the front desk, I was shown the receipt of the couple who had checked in 30 seconds ago (in front of me in line) to prove that was the going rate. I’m sure they would be understanding if told I was given access to their check in information. I was also informed that I have to wait for Karen Dimino to contact me because no one on the afternoon staff has the authority to make management decisions to accommodate the guest! Really poor display of responsibility on management!

We had a great stay at the Holiday Inn Express! Jennifer set up a block of rooms for my wedding, and my husband and I stayed in the Executive King room. We were greeted with amazing service from all staff members, and even given a goody bag upon arrival with champagne and a sweet thank you note!
My bridesmaids and I got ready in my room, and Jennifer had banquet tables and extra chairs brought in for the hair and makeup team’s work station. The next day, everyone met for breakfast, and the crew kept the breakfast open about 20 minutes later for our wedding group, since we all had a late night. Great service!

Front desk lady Donna is on some «I love my job shit». I tried to check In and watched her answer call after call while helping me, It was the longest most unhelpful service is ever had. I booked two nights and she took her sweet time trying to figure out if I told the truth about prepaying my rooms. I felt under acknowledged and unhappy. Beware of customer service. The other lady is super helpful though.

I booked an executive king room, paid more so I expected more.
Arrived in the evening to see one receptionist and a long line of people waiting to check in.
The receptionist was polite and efficient .
I was checked in to the 1^st floor .
Been a light sleeper, I know it’s an issue when I have people in floors above me .
In this hotel it was even worse.
Walls and ceiling thin as a paper, I could hear everything .
The room for an executive king bed, was basically just a regular room .
A very small bathroom and couch .
Nothing special.
Paper wall is peeling and the carpet is old with stains.
Breakfast was ok, not much of a variety but reasonable for hotel of this level.

Stayed for about 7 nights while I was relocating to the bay area. Very helpful staff. You can walk to the BART station. Good eating options nearby. Overall, a satisfying experience. The breakfast is okay. A lot of choices but it is a very generic breakfast. I’m not picky of that so no issues there.
One recommendation for the management is to fix the cart trolley. Some were really squeaky and it annoyed me when I was taking it across the hallways. I’m sure some of the guests didn’t appreciate it either. The other is to fix the elevator lights. It was sometimes hard to know whether the button had been pressed since not all the lights of the button would light up.
Overall, a good stay.

Take a look at the bad reviews. Most date back years. I’m on the road a lot (see my reviews) and I can’t say enough about how much I like this hotel. The front desk is quite courteous and accommodating. Rooms are nice (see my photos) and breakfast is plentiful.
This is a high rent district of the Bay Area. Of course it cost more than other HI’s. Don’t like the price? Go to Stockton where it’s cheaper! ;)
I’ve stayed here more than once on business and my company allows any hotel I want. I pick this one.
Ignore the old bad reviews. I’ll bet that since then either corporate has dropped the hammer on the staff or a new sheriff (manager) has cleaned things up.
Check in. You won’t be disappointed.
