Salon Astante

First time here, I was very nervous about finding a new salon. Gina cut my hair and it looks so freaking awesome! I love it! Christine did my eyebrows and they are equally fabulous!

This was by far the worst hair salon experience of my life. I was able to call and book an appointment that same day for a cut and color, I was told I would be seeing Laurel as my stylist. When I arrived at Salon Astante I was informed while checking in at the desk that a «different stylist would be taking care of me today.» This «stylist» (I cant think of her name) appeared to care WAY more about the way she looked than the way I would look, dressed like she was ready to go off to the club for the night. All in all, the short layered w/​ombré effect I had desired was NOT AT ALL WHAT I RECIEVED. The hair stylist I went to for help trying to fix it couldn’t figure out the logic behind any of it. & on top of everything the total cost for the «cut. color, and blow dry» that was so radically far from what I had specifically shown pictures of and described was $ 200!!! I felt NO NEED TO EVER TIP FOR A SOMETHING THAT I DID NOT ASK FOR.
I WOULD NEVER RECOMMENT SALON ASTANTE TO ANYONE!
LOW QUALITY, HIGH PRICES, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE –
so what exactly are we paying for?

I followed Laurel to this salon from Lexington and will follow her to the ends of the earth! She knows hair. period. She really listens, makes suggestions and keeps up with all the latest trends. Her blow outs are the best I’ve ever had and it will last for days. She does magic with color as well. I love the keratin treatment.
I recently had Ana put on my color and blow dry as Laurel was on vaca. She is also good — gives a great head massage when washing your hair! The Salon was recently updated it’s got a nice unpretentious vibe. They take good care of you, water, tea, coffee. I’ve never had a problem getting an appointment when I needed one. They also offer organic airbrush tanning — although I haven’t tried it yet. And there is free parking behind the building.
So go — get beautiful and then walk a few steps to have a drink on the patio at Margaritas!

Valeria is the best! So excited that my favorite stylist is now working here. She specializes in mens cuts and a few of my guy friends have been seeing her for years and lover her. I was ecstatic to hear she was back doing women’s hair again! She is so talented, attentive and really takes the time to work with what you want as well as what’s best for you (not always the same thing, for me at least). She is just AMAZING all around!
What a beautiful salon in the suburbs. Lots of free parking behind. They recently renovated and the place looks totally different then the pics posted here. Maybe some new pics Salon Astante? :D

Called day of looking for a «good» salon. Unilocaled all morning and stumbled across this place. I have gone to two salons on néwbury street for the past 7 years. And this place was very pleasantly surprising. I would go back to Ana again and again. Great spot and squeeZed me in within an hour of my call!

This is my fourth and final time going to Salon Astante. The previous times were just ok. Never once did I have an awesome cut that I was thrilled with but they were ok. I had cuts that were 30, 40, 50 and finally 60. The interesting thing and the reason that I have decided to finally write this review is the last cut, just a few weeks ago. I walked in as I usually do and asked for a walk-​in cut, I know that you get whomever is free and the price changes accordingly. I got the owner Katie. Great I thought, maybe this is the awesome cut Ive been looking for. Well I couldn’t have been more wrong, in fact it was the worst cut I have had from this salon and in fact the worst cut that I have had in YEARS. She does not seen to have any experience cutting men’s hair or at least very little. One side of my hair is very short now and the other close to two inches longer. She only partially listened to my requests and failed at 70 percent of it. This is pretty unacceptable considering its her shop and she charges $ 60.00 for a cut! Here I am, even a few weeks later and the cut is so bad that I have to find someone to salvage it so that it can at least grow out evenly. I see that most women have had pretty good experiences here and while I wouldn’t dissuade them from going I would tell any and all men to avoid letting Katie give you a cut at all costs.

So happy I tried a new place, I had a GREAT experience here! My stylist Ana knew exactly what type of cut I was looking and did an amazing job. I highly recommend her work and will most definitely be going back!

I just had my first visit to Salon Astante – I followed my stylist, Laurel, who is AMAZING! I was lucky enough to get a recommendation for her shortly after I moved to Boston 6 years ago, and now I have moved salons to follow her twice. When she was in Lexington, I drove an hour just to get my hair cut. I have straight, fine hair, and she manages to cut it so that it looks like it has some shape and volume. She is worth every penny and I’m so glad to be a loyal client!

The best nail salon in town. Great deals in Unilocal right now. Very quiet place. Cozy salon for me to relax.

A big shout out to my girl, Laurel Stanton! She was at Creative Expressions in Lexington and I’ve followed her here to Salon Astante! She’s awesome as always and so are her new digs! Definitely stop in and visit Laurel! She will listen carefully to what you would like and take her time making sure it is what you want. The salon has a friendly happy vibe!

I haven’t been to this salon yet, but I’m already unimpressed. I called looking to get a manicure and an eyebrow wax on Friday.
The girl I spoke to on the phone told me they don’t have a single nail tech or person who waxes that even works on a Friday. It wasn’t that they were booked, they literally don’t have anyone in the salon on Fridays who either waxes or does nails.
For such a big place they don’t seem to have a very complete staff. Seems fairly unprofessional in my opinion. I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to try going there again.

My wife and I each had great experiences here. I recommend you give Salon Astante. The location is easy to find. The stylists are talented and professional. Smart for hair stylists. I feel like you get a ton of value for the service they provide.
The stylists were so nice and sweet I was temped to kidnap them and make them live in my dirt floor basement

My wife got the Unilocal deal and got her hair done at Astante, she was very happy with the cut and styling of her hair. She has frizzly curly hair and no easy to manage. The hairdresser was very helpful, listened and did a great job. Wife happy Life Happy!

Salon Astante was a great experience, They staff and services were tremendous.

I love my hair now. I need to start this review with that. For years, I’ve wanted a short pixie style, but most stylists seem hesitant to do it. It’s as if they don’t think I really want my hair cut that short. Maybe it’s a difficult cut to do?
Okay. So, Katie did not originate my pixie style, but she sure made it better. So far, there are no clumps of hair sticking out, and overall, the cut looks very precise, which is what you want for a short cut.
First time patrons get their cut for $ 50, and I used the Unilocal deal that let me pay $ 50 and get $ 100 worth of service, which, even at an expensive salon is a great deal. I got a brow wax and bought a small bottle of the outrageously decadent Oribe superfine hairspray, all for under $ 100. Brow wax was $ 20.
Is any brow wax worth more than fifteen dollars? Every other place I have had it done charges between 14 and 16.
This is a very nice salon. It was friendly, attractive, had free parking, coffee and tea, etc. They even give newcomers a gift bag with samples (Oribe! Yeah!). But, if I return, cuts are 65 — 85 dollars.
$ 85 for a haircut? In waltham? This was definitely the best cut, wax, and overall experience that I’ve had since moving to this area about 9 months ago, but is it 85 dollars better? That’s twice the price of many local salons. I expect to pay more for quality service, but I’m not sure the local market warrants these prices.

Never been here before, decided to give this place a try when I needed a color and trim. First off, I’d like to elaborate on how their prices listed on the website are somewhat misleading.
A haircut & blow dry «starts» at $ 65… Well apparently, my first-​time appointment was with a «higher-​end» hair dresser who had different pricing than the ones listed on the website. So instead of getting a haircut starting at $ 65, I got a haircut which started at $ 85. $ 85?! That’s a little outrageous if you ask me. I was a little taken back by how much this cost me. I have very short, fine hair — all I wanted was the dead ends taken off because I’m trying to grow everything out.
So don’t get me wrong, I know the smallest of haircuts are usually all one fixed price, but it’s just the fact I was not aware of this one particular hair dressers (who they scheduled me with) special pricing; resulting with me walking out as an unhappy customer paying a ridiculous amount of money for a haircut. I emailed the salon and got a snobby rude response that definitely made me want to take my business elsewhere.
Their response (via email) said the following: «Next time if you specify that you want to spend $ 60 or $ 70, we can put you with a stylist at that level.»
…Really? Um, okay. So, since this was my first time, how was I supposed to even know to specify I didn’t want to pay a price that wasn’t advertised on your website? As mentioned earlier, I understand that it says «starting at» for all their prices. It’s just the fact that the different «levels» of hair dressers were not clarified on the website nor did they explain it to me during my first-​time consultation. My second problem is the fact they rudely handled the overall situation. In today’s economy businesses are highly competitive. This is not how any business should want to build their customer base. Especially if you are new to the market.
All in all, it was not the best experience. I’m not saying do go here, I’m just hoping this review will help them learn from their mistakes.

Such a great neighborhood gem!
Overall — great service. super friendly. attentive. wonderful atmosphere.
I made an appointment via email, which I always appreciate as so many establishments fail with technology.
The day of the appointment, I got into some car trouble and Katie was very understanding and offered to reschedule with only a couple hours left before the appointment.
When I got in, I was surprised with how posh the space was while still being very cozy and welcoming. Katie was very nice and attentive. She asked me in detail what I typically did with my hair, which I appreciated since it’s curly and it’s not very typical.
I got a shampoo, cut, and blow dry. They were also having a special tanning event and ended up having one as well. Which was a nice surprise. Overall Katie was really nice and a real pleasure.
Definitely recommending this place and going back.

Got a haircut by Diana, mani-​pedi from Pam. Both were great. (and as an added bonus they have ½ off mani-​pedis that day). Will come back.
