Brian was so nice and helpful in walking me through the parts I needed to fix my washer myself… Thank you!

I manage our family’s rental property on the coast and needed to purchase a new mattress quickly. I live in Portland and was unable to visit the store in person so I called J&S and spoke to Brian about my situation. He told me about their most popular mattress and said that they would be happy to take an order over the phone and deliver the mattress for free. I did some research on the brand after talking with him and then called back to place the order. He even emailed the receipt to me for extra convenience. I was nervous about purchasing a mattress without actually seeing it, but I am very pleased with the mattress quality and have had many positive comments from our renters about it as well. The only downside was that the box spring was too high for the bed frame, which I didn’t realize until after the delivery. But once I called Brian about it, he ordered a shorter profile version and switched them out for no charge. Other furniture stores have charged me $ 20 for that service, so it was very much appreciated. I highly recommend J&S and especially Brian. Great customer service and very reasonable pricing. Buying a mattress and having it delivered from a Portland-area store would have easily doubled the price. I will definitely give J&S my future business.

We own a vacation rental in Gearhart and our dishwasher failed two days before guests were due to check in. We checked with Home Depot out of sheer laziness because we’ve bought several appliances(with mixed results). They could«probably» get a new dishwasher installed in «two weeks or so.» Another customer overheard our conversation and frustration and, as we walked away, suggested J&S. We walked in at 3PM. Found the dishwasher we wanted at about $ 100 more than HD but we got $ 50 off which covered the installation charge. The installer came in the next morning, worked quickly and quietly, finished in a remarkably short time, and left with no indication that the new dishwasher hadn’t always been there. I’d add that I felt immediately comfortable with the staff and I know where I’ll be going for appliances and parts from now on.

Nice, low key place. Good selection. On the Saturday we were there we were helped by a very friendly salesman. He was honest and admitted they did not have what we were looking for in stock, but did not rush us. Overall, a very pleasant visit. This place is now on my list for the future, but only if the same man waits on us. The other staff left me a little uneasy.

I live in Podunk, Washington. I needed a Washing machine to replace a Sears Kenmule front loading washing machine. I wanted a SpeedQueen, not sold by the big box stores. My town has no phone book listing for new appliances, just used appliances. The closest shops that sold it were in Olympia, WA or in Warrenton, OR. Neither would deliver more than 30 miles without a big surcharge, J and S said they’d cut $ 50 from the price if I came in to pick up the unit. I borrowed a pickup truck and arrived to find they had brought out a carton with a SpeedQueen washer that was a grade or two higher. AS they didn’t have the model that I’d asked them to bring out, they didn’t charge me a dime extra for the upgrade, not that I really wanted an upgrade – I needed a washing machine. Olympia lost an easy sale, considering that traffic to my place from there is easy. I cannot address service, but my transaction took less than four minutes. Both people working were attentive & friendly

I really wanted to support this local spot when looking for new appliances, but sadly, it comes down to price in the long run. Decent selection, and we were greeted by a clerk quickly. Not sure if it was because we stopped in 10 minutes prior to closing or not. They were closing a deal with another customer. Their selection of clothes dryers was decent and the prices all included the power cord(yeah, most places charge separately for the damn cord now), delivery, old haul away, and even an upgrade to the warranty. So for $ 599, I could get a 7.0 cu. ft. electric dryer, with cord(value of approx. 20 bucks), free delivery(40 bucks at Sears, Free at Home Depot, and others), a 3 year parts and labour plan(about $ 70 bucks at Home Depot), plus feel good about supporting a local business. But like I say, it comes down to price overall. I got the same item and upgrades /parts for $ 486 bucks. A hundred bucks plus is still enough of a savings to deal with the ass-clowns at Home Depot. In final analysis I would say that J&S is not outrageously priced based on this experience, and somewhat within range. I think it would come down to the other items that you were purchasing to see if it makes a difference. I will still price check with them when the need arises, but for this small purchase, the savings of the extra hundred plus was nice especially with a baby niece or nephew ready to emerge any hour now that needs to be spoiled by me, the cool, favourite uncle.(wink)

I am the first to support a locally owned business. I went in today expecting to purchase a new refrigerator… About $ 3,000. I walked in… No hello. I looked at the floor models, I waited, I waited, I waited… Yes there were people behind the counter. One customer was also looking at refrigerators and waiting but walked out 10 minutes before me. I’ m not sure how long he was waiting before I arrived. I walked out, passing an employee who said«did you find everything you wanted?». I could barely contain myself. As I said smiling you lost a $ 3,000 sale. I have waited too long for assistance. Unbelievably the guy shrugged his shoulders. Business must be booming for J&S and they don’t need or want my money. I will take my money to Home Depot or Standard TV and appliance… and won’t be back at J & S to purchase my double ovens or cooktop… J&S just doesn’t want your money. Go somewhere else! Hey J & S I spent $ 8,500 at Standard TV Appliance. It could have been in your pocket! But YOU ignored me… thank you I found what I wanted in Beaverton…
