Specialties
Located at Historical Eastern Market and part of the Capitol Hill community since 1964, Bowers Fancy Dairy Products sets itself apart by providing a wide array of dairy products and cheeses to suit the needs of the most decerning tyrophile. We are located in the South Hall of Eastern Market.
History
Established in 1964.
Bowers Fancy Dairy Products operations commenced on October 1, 1964 by Harris Rockford Bowers. Harris was a larger than life character, setting with a 6’1″ frame, often wearing a «Boat» hat, accompanied by his French-Canadian sidekick, Ms. Lorraine.
In January 1976, Harris R. Bowers passed away, J. Raymond Bowers began operations and ran the business for 36 years. Working with his son Michael, Ray Bowers developed the inventory and mercantile relations which make up the diverse, yet exquisite selections found at Bowers Fancy Dairy Products today.
Since 2005, Michael R, Bowers has played a role in various committees at the market, including the Capital Improvement’s Committee and chair of Eastern Market’s Tenants Council. In May of 2007, a fire at Eastern Market affected many of the businesses in the South Hall. In June 2009, the restoration of the South Hall was completed & the merchant’s returned to the South Hall where Bowers continues to operate today.
