Curbside Cafe

Interesting to note their recently reduced hours. They used to be open Tues-​Sun but now just Friday-​Sunday. Guess they are not that busy during the week.

I really enjoy this place each time I go. The pastries are great and the coffee is solid. However, management and service is SO flaky. Half the time I arrange to meet someone there at 7:30 for breakfast, (30 minutes after they open) and it’s still closed — there’s no one there, the doors are locked, and there is no sign indicating that they’re opening late or what is going on. As much as I would like to count this as my local coffee shop, I’m going to frequent other locations (c’mon, Mia’s Coffeehouse!) in the future.

Recently visited this café and let’s just say I am so not a fan. The lemon cupcake I had was DRY, but I will say the icing was good. This is not a place I’d visit again, but hey I’m just one Unilocaler :-)

I’ve been meaning to stop by Curbside Café for a while now! When I used to work on Barracks Row I would stalk their truck (Curbside Cupcakes) so I’m very familiar with how good their cupcakes are. I was out for a walk this weekend and since I was in the neighborhood and I was already burning calories I decided it was the perfect time for a treat. The staff was very welcoming and friendly and told me about each flavor of cupcake and poptart they had. They also showed me the sandwich and coffee menu, but I was there for something sweet! I finally decided on the Strawberry Nutella poptart. They offered to warm it up, but I wanted to save it for later.
Later that night I heated up my treat in my toaster oven and was completely in heaven! The perfect blend of strawberry jam and nutella in a flaky crust. I would definitely come back for another poptart, but would also love to try more of their menu!

I really really want this place to succeed. It’s so brand new I think they need some time to figure out the kinks in their system. The service is somewhat sluggish, and hopefully it will trend to snappy.
The homemade pop-​tarts look amazing, but we were in the mood for croissants — which are picture perfect, but overpriced and need more flaky layers on the inside. The real home run was the cinnamon roll we took for the road — big enough to share, and once in the oven comes out gooey and delicious.

I use to work at the crêpe café at this location and I also lived 10 houses away. The owners lived in the warehouses behind my building and they are really friendly! Their daughter is really cute as well.
Meh: Coffee usually takes forever and quite weak. Lattes are generally really milky. Ive waited 15 minutes for 2 lattes before.
Good: Cupcakes are rich and delicious. They also have banana milkshakes which are sweet but definitely yummy.
Best: GRILLED CHEESE & sandwiches. Best when they make it on the crêpe machines (a little less when made with a press).

Loved this place sooooo much! It’s very homey, very welcoming, and the homemade pop tarts are amazing! I had a pop tart with apple filling, and it hit the spot!

Nice to chat with Sam, owner and just down the street from me. Going to make it a mainstay!
Delicious coffee: ordered a dirty chai (chai with a shot of espresso) and it was one of the best I’ve had. Spicy and not too sweet, meaning you could add sugar if you like to suit your taste. Also ordered it with almond milk so great to have dairy free options.
Dessert: ordered a red velvet cupcake as its their best seller… Delicious cream cheese frosting, soft cake with solid flavor but not overly sweet or overwhelming.
Savory: kale salad was great! Fresh, earthy, with red cabbage and dijon dressing that was perfect.
Other: the site of a growing lending library! Brought home two books and will bring some for them. Kinda heavy on fantasy (Dragon Lance!) but copped a James Beard cook book and a spiritual/​philosophical work on Krishnamurty.
I shall be back.

Super duper cute! I’m ashamed to say that I live a measly 2.5 blocks from here and visited for the first time today. Now that I have, this will likely be a weekly stop.
They offer lots of morning beverage, or afternoon depending on your preferences, options. I just had a regular cup o’ joe but my friend had their iced coffee. They also have a wide assortment of pastries/​sweet treats. I had a Snickerdoodle cake pop, just because I think they’re adorable and my friend had a sweet pop tart. They also had savory pop tarts with spinach and cheese. Looked yummy!
It’s corner location on the ground floor of a condo building but they have indoor and outdoor seating options. It’s small, as are most cafés in DC it’s roomy enough to be comfy. I’d choose this over an overpriced well-​known coffee shop anytime.

This is a great neighborhood spot. The cupcakes are good (try the salted caramel), the coffee is good (my usual is a latte), service is great and they serve pancakes on the weekends (yay!). There is always plenty of seating and it’s quiet! It’s such a nice change for those of us who work in NW, where every place is full & load and the quality is questionable.
I come here at least once a week for either coffee, a cupcake fix or a nice cold bottle of Perrier.

Yummy cupcakes. I tried the chocolate: super rich but delicious; the key lime pie: just the right amount of sweet and tart; the red velvet: mouthwatering; the carrot cake: the perfect «breakfast» cupcake; and vanilla: simple yet satisfying. If you are in the capitol hill area and have a hankering for some tiny cake delights, stop by.
Oh, and don’t worry, I didn’t eat all five by myself ;)

Another plus for the neighborhood! Cupcake was great. The frosting made me smile. However, didn’t go for cake. Went for breakfast. Mixed review. Little PopTarty like baked things with fillings. Bacon, egg and cheese was incredible. My Three Cheese one was disappointing as there was hardly any filling. They have others for next trip. Also have lunch tarts and sandwiches. I’m looking forward to the pulled pork tart. Apparently, when the new guys got the building they couldn’t get the license for outdoor seating. License review board considering request. Hope they get it. Great place to sit with a snack and coffee.

Omg. So let me just say that cupcakes are not my favorite. I would rather have a brownie or a cookie, or one of their delicious breakfast pastries/​pop tarts. But when I come here for coffee and sweets, I always ask what flavors they have that day of everything. So upon asking today, Christy said the new one was strawberry-​lemons basil. Wait, what? So of course I got it to try it. I finished my iced coffee on the way home, ate my salad and then told myself I would just have one bite and save the rest for tomorrow. Well, I took a bite, then two, then licked the icing off of the paper and the bag it came in… and then I sat it down. I honestly was going to save it for tomorrow, but then I kept saying to myself, omg this is amazing. Yes, I was talking to myself. Needless to say, I finished it. It was quite possibly the best cupcake I have ever had, and that means a lot coming from a brownie lover. I hope she makes these more. But not too much, I will not be able to resist.

4 stars and here’s how they earned all four stars:
1) Seating. There are six tables for two around the windows and one giant oak table in the middle of the room that could sit 8 – 10 people at one time. I’ve never had trouble finding seating right away and I can’t say that when I go to Tryst in NW or Chinatown Coffee Company in Chinatown or even Union Market north of H Street NE.
2) The snacks are great from the brownie muffin to the cake pops. There’s a reason that a food truck becomes a permanent location. Means people like it! I always get a chai tea latte and it has a bit more of a kick to it than most places (more on the spicy side than the vanilla side).
3) The owners are very friendly and have the cutest (seriously!) kid who frequents the coffee shop. Because of this, the café has toys for kids.
4) The location is great because they are trying to bring more options to Capitol Hill East. You can walk down the street to the Pretzel Bakery.
5) Strong wifi. This is a HUGE plus that they even have wifi in the first place yet alone that it’s a strong signal. I can be on the Internet and use VPN for work at the same time without slowing down the speed.

Just had an apple cinnamon «pop tart.» Sorta like the best slice of cinnamon apple pie you’ve ever dreamt about. The pastry was flaky, buttery, and wonderful. The apple cinnamon filling was everything you hope for: softened apples, caramelized sugar, and tasty cinnamon. There was a nice frosting on top that was NOT too sweet (thank you!). This is not the excessively sweet pastry that I dread, but a nicely balanced slice of pie. Love it!
We also brought home a chocolate cupcake with raspberry frosting. De-​freaking-​licious.

I ordered a soy vanilla latte and it was tasty and just the right temperature. It was a bit cooler and the chairs were not as comfy. But there were ton of outlets with seats nearby. Easy WiFi login, friendly staff and wonderful looking pastries. Ill be back!

This place is a jem! The savory pastries are delicious, and the customer service is top notch.

It wasn’t until I heard that Curbside Café had savory offerings did we venture in and I’m so glad that we did. The turkey club was fresh and yummy. The tomato soup was velvety — although I would have preferred it to be a bit more tangy and less organo-​y, and the grilled cheese was perfection.
To round out the meal we shared an oatmeal whoopie pie. Normally, I’m not a fan of sweets so I had only intended to nibble. OMG, it was amazing. I also took a nibble of the cupcakes that we brought to a party. Delicious. And this comes from a cupcake hater. Turns out, maybe I do like sweets after all.
We will definitely be finding ourselves wandering over here to dine. We hope that Curbside will consider having some ice teas in the future.

Curbside Café occupies the former «Crepes on the Corner» location. Its former occupier failed miserably because it priced itself out of the market. A coffee and crêpe would set your back well over $ 10 and as a result this place became a «once in a while» treat place as opposed to an everyday staple. Thank goodness Curbside Café did not fall into this trap. Its baked goods and coffee are reasonably priced and this is a place I can see myself going to day after day on my way to work.
Anyway the baked goods are exquisite. It has an excellent selection of pop tarts and cupcakes with a smaller selection of donuts and croissants. What I like about this place is that that focus on doing baked goods well (as opposed to the newly opened Buzz Bakery which tries to be a jack of all trades).
The service was extremely friendly and they seem extremely attentive to their clientele. Indeed they thanked the customer in front of me for being a repeat customer. I would definitely recommend this place and will definitely be returning.

They’re still going through their soft opening stage to work out kinks, so this is a very preliminary review. I’m happy to see a local business expand and take this very residential spot in Cap Hill East. Other than the super yummy Pretzel Place down the street, there’s not much restaurant-​wise east of Barracks Row. Owner and staff were super friendly, and I adore the reclaimed wood table and natural light in the space that was previously occupied by Crepes on the Corner.
Besides their signature cupcakes that put the Curbside Cupcakes food truck on the map, they offer other pastries and plan to eventually serve lunch. I had a tasty chocolate croissant this morning with coffee, but I was sorely tempted by the savory and sweet pop tart/​turnover things as well.
