Description

Specialties

Emphasizing in-house smoked meats, locally sourced seafood and farm-fresh produce, Chef Rusty Holman expresses his brand of Southern-inspired food with an open kitchen concept combining subtle international flavors with many classics to produce sophisticated Southern cuisine. Due South also brings with it a little known word from Alabama to DC: larrupinÕ. The context is simple and familiar. ÊAny time Òexcellent,Ó Òamazing,Ó Òspectacular,Ó or Òpretty damn goodÓ can be used to describe what youÕre eating, consider it larrupinÕ. The wordÕs origin comes from the pleasure that is the simplest, yet most rewarding way to spend a day or evening: exceptional food shared among friends and family.

History

Established in 2015.

Due South serves the creative cuisine expected from a chef who has cooked Southern recipes since he could reach his grandmotherÕs kitchen counter in North Carolina. Located in the historic Lumber Shed building along the newly built, beautiful Anacostia Riverwalk Trail, Due South is the latest addition to the increasingly prominent section of Southeast DC known as The Yards. Chef Rusty Holman has expressed his brand of Southern-inspired food in the DC area since 2007, when he teamed up with Georgetown Events to launch the iconic Louisiana staple, Bayou, in the West End. Due South extends to you the same Southern hospitality, great food, and family atmosphere appreciated by DC residents of all origins.
