Four Points by Sheraton Washington D.C. Downtown

Went here for a long weekend in DC in fall 2013. Our room (but not the hotel) had a really peculiar smell – like a fish bowl or something.
Other than that anomaly, it is a very serviceable hotel in a prime location in downtown DC. Also, it has a pretty sweet gym.

I am not sure why all the complaints about this property. I have to say I was fairly happy with my stay and would definitely come back again. I guess it really helped that the hotel was right next door to my work so I could just walk but regardless I had a really pleasant time.
I am an SPG member so I got to check in early, and check out late on their 4pm check out time. My room was on a high floor like I requested and there was free bottled water in the room.
The bed was comfortable and the showers were not bad either. I didn’t find the toilet or anything else to be dirty or not well kept. The room didn’t smell funky and I generally enjoyed my stay which I think is the most you can say about a hotel like this.
Of course, I wasn’t here on a romantic get away, so I mean … it’s just a different feel. I think you have to pick the hotel that is appropriate for your type of stay because otherwise its a bit unfair. I would recommend this place.

This is probably the worst Sheraton I have ever stayed in. I came here for work because I was attending a conference at the DC convention center. That is the one good things about this hotel, it is the closest hotel to the convention center, very convenient. Other than that, not so great.
I have stayed a lot of Sheratons for work over the past 5 years since it’s a preferred hotel for my company and I am usually pleasantly surprised. This was not the case with this Sheraton. It is in desperate need of a remodel and added amenities for people on business travel. The rooms are just okay, nothing special. Bathroom could use a remodel. Not sure about the other rooms but my air conditioner ran all day and night. I was there end of March so it was raining, not ideal weather for the AC to be on. It was one of those old ACs in the window so I had an to pull the plug to make it stop. Central air would have been a much better solution. The room service is also not 24 hours. I’m not even asking for food at 3am. I tried to order lunch at noon on a Saturday so I could work and eat but it wasn’t available.
Normally these would be small things that I would not be too mad about but then I saw on my invoice when I checked out that my work was being charged $ 249/​night! I’ve stayed in better $ 100/​night hotels.

We had a room with two double beds and the comforter was stained on both. The beds were comfortable though.
The room had a strong musty smell. It had obviously been smoked in at some point. We had to leave the window open during the day to get fresh air. The air conditioning unit was in desperate need of repair or replacement, it was very noisy and woke myself and my wife up when it would turn on.
Bathroom was tiny and dated. Room is dated in general. The baseboard molding doesn’t match on all of walls. Behind the desk and TV area was a shorter molding that looked very old. Must have been a shortcut durning the remodel. The main light sounded like an old bug light making us feel that we were in a motel.
Overall the room needed a thorough cleaning. The bathroom mirror had simple smudges that were overlooked. The carpet was dirty and behind the beds was very dusty. The TV remote had greasy finger prints from the previous room occupant.
The pool was warm, but the floor surrounding it is uneven. The grout around the pool is different colors and needs to be redone. Our Thursday evening trip to the pool yielded plenty of clean towels. Our Saturday night trip was a big disappointment, I had to go down one flight to the changing room to get towels.
We are at the hotel restaurant Saturday afternoon. The portions were decent and the food was fresh and tasty. The staff was friendly and attentive. The price however was too high for the simple meals.
I would give the hotel one star, but the staff was friendly and the location is decent.

This hotel gets three stars because the staff was helpful and the location is great, otherwise it would be two stars. Place is expensive, loud and rooms are small. The eatery on e second floor, District Grill was average as well.

This hotel was nothing special but it was clean, reasonably priced and in a fairly good location relative to monuments/​museum.
There were a few things that I really didn’t like about this hotel. The only parking that was available to us was $ 50 a day valet. We ended up parking around the block for $ 27 a day (at the recommendation of hotel staff).
The room was really no frills. The cups in the room were all plastic, my coffee maker made a mess when I used it (no stirrers provided) and the worst part is the non stop sirens. The hotel is right around the block from a firehouse. It’s so loud that they provided a set of ear plugs! You can’t beat the price but if I’m in dc again I may splurge for a nicer place.

Clean hotel, wonderful front desk staff, delicious restaurant! No complaints about anything they can control.
Close to everything in downtown — love that!
Problems seem to be the clientele — two nights next to LOUD parties that front desk couldn’t seem to control. We even had to knock and talk to the people. Last day was one of the parties (3 rooms worth of 16 – 21 year old girls) laughing and running down the hall at 4am! This wouldn’t be that big of a deal in a larger facility, but this hotel isn’t big.
Also, restaurant/​bar has limited wine selections AND they were out of the first two we attempted to order.
Overall wonderful stay and I would return. And request more earplugs.

Stayed here recently when in town to visit a friend.
The four best reasons to stay at this hotel:
1. Proximity to major tourist attractions: ½ mile from White House; 1 mile from The Smithsonian; 1.5 miles from Union Station, The Botanical Gardens, Supreme Courts; 2 miles from Washington and Lincoln Memorials; plenty of restaurants and coffee chains nearby.
2. SUPERB customer service: Every staff member — from the desk staff to the valet — was incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. We checked out early on a Sunday morning and the concierge was quickly able to recommend open coffee and breakfast places in the area. When we got home we filled in a customer service survey online and I briefly mentioned that I’d wished we had more coffee pods in our room. (By now, you’ve probably picked up on the fact that coffee is very important to us…) The manager of the hotel sent us a personal note to let us know that next time we are in town we should simply call the front desk and they will bring us more. THAT is customer service.
3. FAB happy hour: $ 3 drafts; $ 5 well drinks and house wine; ½ price appetizers. (Good drinks deals are also very important to us.)
4. Reasonable price for a downtown location: We were here during the weekend and our room was approximately $ 120/​night which is great considering the first three points.
Being a New Yorker, I’m not put out by the size of rooms and bathrooms — small spaces are something I’m very accustomed to when it comes to hotels and living areas. That being said — our room was plenty large enough for two people staying in town for a weekend. The bed was comfortable and the room was spotless — those are my main priorities.
Next time we are in DC, we will be staying here again.

Ugh, stayed here on a business trip and left feeling cheaped out on. I’m sure it’s not worth whatever the company paid to stay here. I guess it’s clean, but the rooms are small and the bathrooms feel a little small and old. Wasn’t very impressed.

Arriving almost at midnight, the parking garage was full, we had to drop off our luggage, park the car a block away then walk back to the hotel. Check in was smooth, quick and easy.
Our two bed room was clean and cozy but it was warmer than usual although we had the thermostat set to 65 degrees, we called the front desk at 1:30am and it took the technician less than 10 minutes to come and reset the AC unit.
Four stars because the room is smaller than average (expected that from previous reviews), didn’t bother me, the bathroom was clean, but the toilet seat was loose.
In general, it is a little less than the expected average of a Sheraton, but nice clean and conveniently located in the heart of DC.

Room was very small and parking garage for hotel was full so we had to park far away.
It was alright for the night but no more than that!

We had just flew in from Dallas to BWI, took a bus, two trains, and a taxi. It was late, and were were exhausted. Enter: the cold room. It was so very, very cold. Mind you it’s 20 – 30 something degrees in February. I could adjust the fan to auto, or back to fan. F**** it. We were tired and had to be up at 6am the next day. We then woke up repeatedly that night, freezing. We told them the next day at check out and they responded «Oh, sorry! Someone will take a look at it.» Feh. Went to stay somewhere else (Rouge) for the rest of our trip.
The one redeeming star was for the awesome concierge. Very cordial and friendly. While my husband and I were leaving early the next morning with our luggage in tow, he immediately went and helped. He then asked us if we needed a cab and then hailed us one and packed our stuff in the trunk.
ROOM DEETS:
–Fridge in the room, but no microwave
–Our room was SMALL
–The lobby is attractive and they have computers for 10 min use
–Great location. Restaurants immediately across the street and within walking distance to the White House
–Got a free bottle of water in the room :3 They seemed pretty proud of this service, so I guess it deserves a mention

Solid three star choice if you are looking for a reasonably priced Starwood hotel right in the middle of everything. The room itself is nothing to write home about — utilitarian design with some evidence of peeling paint and other indicia of the need for a renovation — but it’s otherwise clean and the room I’m in (corner room on the 4^th floor) is larger than a typical Sheraton space.
What makes this hotel shine is the location — walking distance from most sights, and a very inexpensive cab ride if walking isn’t your thing — and the customer care is top notch.
District Grille on the second floor is a pretty solid choice for breakfast even if it does have the ambience of a school cafeteria! And the service there, not to mention the complimentary breakfast and happy hour beverage every day for Platinum members, were a big hit.

I made my reservation at 4 Points for three reasons. two make sense, the third doesn’t.
1. Location. K and 12^th.
2. Price. I got what seemed to be a very good price on
.
3. I had liked the Hyatt Place in Seattle so much that I figured this Sheraton equivalent would be equally nice. Wrong!
Here’s the weird thing: two other people attending the same meeting also ended up here. Each of us had made our own reservations so it was coincidence. And all three of us did the same thing: after the first night each switched from a room with two double beds to a room with a single king sized bed. Here’s why. The rooms are two small for two doubles. There’s not enough space left to walk around the room.
And all three of us came to the same conclusion: great location, great staff, but the hotel itself is only OK.
In Unilocal-​speak that means three stars.

For a Starwood hotel, this is definetly not their «best» hotel, however, it is often the lowest-​priced option in Washington DC. The price and location are excellent, but the quality of the room is definetly sub-​par. It reminds me of something that you’d see in a small town off of a Tennessee highway (no offense, Tennessee) where rates are below $ 50.
I am a loyal Starwood guest, but I will definetly reconsider other options in the DC area when visiting again.
One of the few bright spots of this hotel was the front desk reception where two very friendly women helped us check in and get acquainted with the area around the hotel. Very friend. Very Nice. What one would expect from Starwood, but again the rooms did not match their friendly help.

I’m a frequent stayer at the Westin City Center (just a few blocks for here). Yes, let’s be transparent. This is the low rung of Starwood brands. However, if you’re on a budget, this may be your place. Rates here seem to be consistently lower than other properties in this area of town.
As an SPG platinum guest, I was incredibly pleased with my last two stays here.
— Great rate
— Pleasant, clean upgraded room with plenty of space to be comfortable and an comfortable desk chair (even a plush robe)
— Free breakfast and free drinks at the bar (as a Platinum amenity)
— Excellent customer service
Close to everything in DC and a smaller property which makes it more feasible, in my opinion.

Low quality for the price you pay, even relative to other Four Points I’ve stayed in. Only stay if you must but honestly, go to a Holiday Inn type for same caliber but cheaper plus breakfast. Room had a weird smell (musty?) and the ac /​heating unit was incredibly noisy even with the fan turned down low.
Had to call down as was missing shampoo and ended up waiting 30mins despite being SPG Platinum.
Avoid rooms on floors 4 and below as you can hear lots of outside noise; 2 is particularly bad as it’s next to the restaurant.

I’m a Starwood guy and forever will be. Four Points Sheratons aren’t my favorite properties in the Starwood group and in fact, I typically try to avoid them. I couldn’t pass up the extremely affordable price for an overnighter coupled with their prime location in Dupont circle. The front desk staff are damn friendly especially the front desk manager, they provided Westin level service with my bags, concierge etc, have a larger lobby than most Four Points hotels and overall, I was generally pleased with my experience. Surprising!
Compared to other Four Points hotels, this one definitely stands out! According to other reviews though, this hotel seems to be a mixed bag of tricks. Thus, YMMV.

VIP Holiday Wine Tasting. That’s right, the best hangover cure was this VIP wine tasting! Especially on empty stomach! Oh boy it’s more than I bargained for. Nothing like tasting wine in the range of $ 50 – 90 a bottle! The highlights were the Tattinger «Brut La Francaise», Charles Heidsieck Champagne, Dom Perignon, Moet Imperial, Charles de Cazenova Brut, Marsanny Rouge, Italian Granito varietal San Guisepper Soave Classico, Yvon Mau Bordeaux Superieur, Giesen Sauvignon Blanc, Daou Cabernet Sauvignon, Cadre «The Architect» Pinot Noir, Maison Bouchon Cote Du Rhone, Munia (Reserva), Pelton House, Quinta Noval Black, Caposaldo Moscato, Austin Hope Troublemaker, Markham The Altruist and Sokol Blosser Pinot Noir.
On the way out, they gave me a Mark Philips hand blown crystal wine glass.
