Stayed here with my fiancée and his brothers when we had a blizzard last weekend in the DMV. Prices are pretty nice. Bed was sooooo comfortable. The shower… not a fan because it was difficult to get the water running properly. The walls are too damn thin for my taste as I could hear the neighbors; I didn’t mind the talking as it wasnt annoying at the time lol. HOWEVER, its funny that someone called security on our room on a SATURDAY NIGHT for laughing and watching videos on our phone. Smh petty much? The set up of the room is pretty antique looking, but it was cozy nonetheless.
The staff is accommodating as other Unilocalers described.
I would only come here again if I was absolutely forced to if there were bad weather conditions and I needed to get to work on time.

I stayed for a week and got one of the big rooms with the couch, stove, mini fridge, cooking pots/​pans and dishes. The wifi never failed. The staff was always cheery and efficient and treated me well. Walking distance to Foggy Bottom metro and a whole bunch of important places including the White House.

Well on my first day I went to ask the cleaning lady for towels and caught her in a room looking in a wallet. I reported it to the manager, he was going to look in to it. Well the days later I run in to the cleaning lady and I ask the manager I didn’t want me room clean for the time I was there. We put the do not disturb sign on my door and we come back to the room the day before we leave they clean my room. I WAS NOT HAPPY AT ALL.

The suite was spacious and has USB plugs and wireless network. Also, the bathroom can be access without going through the bedroom (especially nice if someone is sleeping in the sofa bed).

Hotels needs to be updated and upgraded. The bathroom was small and there was a weird room outside it that had a refrigerator and microwave – a waste of space. Carpet in room was worn. Parking was $ 40 per day – ridiculous even for DC! Worst of all, the HVAC system had been switched to heat and we were given a window fan to try to cool down! Staff members were friendly but we would not go back to this hotel.

It’s right next to the famous watergate. The staff is super friendly (especially the valet guy!) they have free flavored tootsie rolls, lolipops, soft cookies, crunchy apples, and flavored water. Plus a bar, restaurant, and chess. I love this place. BUT parking is $ 40 so beware before you let the nice valet guy park your car. Also look online for deals. This is usually an expensive place but I found a deal for a suite for $ 109 LOOK!

I was extremely disappointed with this hotel. First, I had to prepay for my 3 night stay 2 months in advance. Upon arrival to this inauspicious place, I was put into the worst room of the hotel in the first floor direct above the hotel’s carport entry facing the entry area of the hotel. The room was musty smelling and tired looking. I complained and was told the hotel was 100% occupied. They found another room about 5 mins later that had 2 full sized beds versus my requested single bed. So I was not able to sleep with my wife. The new room was tired; wallpaper pealing, the bathroom had ceiling paint peeling in the shower. The tub itself had peeling /​cracks. We were disturbed by the hotel’s music playing outside in the hotels courtyard at 12:30 am and I had to complain to get it turned off. Guests will us up one morning and said they were waiting hotel staff to bring them a room key. We couldn’t have drinks on Monday at the hotel’s bar because the bar is closed on Mondays. The cable TV went out for 3 hours at one point. Their are virtually no amenities at the hotel. This place is way overpriced and the service was so-​so. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

This is a great place to stay if you are visiting the GWU campus or the Kennedy Center.
It’s nicely old-​fashioned, truly an Inn & the modern basics are there, such as free wifi, large flat screen TVs in each room, nice bath products. I found everyone on the staff (from reservations to front desk to housekeeping) so kind and willing to go out of their way for me. Had one pre-​theater dinner and one breakfast at Notti Bianchi. Other than that, I brought in food/​wine from Whole Foods. There’s also a Seven Eleven right there which is open 24 hours.

Overall, this inn was OK. The room was spacious and came with a microwave, refrigerator, two bottles of water, and free wi-​fi. At first glance, this place should get 4 or 5 stars but there were a few specifics that lowered my review. First, the staff didn’t listen to specifics on a room service order when we asked for two cups to go along with our pot of coffee — there were two people staying in the room and we asked for it specifically after all! Then, there wasn’t any hot water in the shower and the coffee pot didn’t work. I’m not picky and these wouldn’t be deal breakers but when I brought these issues up to the hotel receptionist during check out (so that the next customer wouldn’t have the same problem), I was given a blank, meaningless apology, with no sign of action.
In the end, if you get this for a really good deal on a site like hotwire, go for it, but you could easily do better.

Stayed here for a night. My friend checked in before I did and had a dinner during my expected arrival. She told the person at the front desk to hold a key for me. After amtrak-​ing and taking the metro to foggy bottom I walked a short two blocks to find this hotel tucked away (it can be hard to find). I said I had a key waiting for room 810. There was no key! Good thing I was the person who made the reservation or I would have had to wait 2 hours for my friend to come back.
Anyway, on to the positives. When I arrived they had complimentary hot apple cider. Yummy. The hotel room is very spacious with a television, alarm clock, two bottles of water, a refrigerator, closet with hangers, desk with chair, and a nice small cozy lazy boy. The bathroom was very nicely stocked with linens and also had some luxury shampoo, condition, and body wash with lotion off to the side. There is also a hair dryer for your hair drying needs.
My friend had to iron her shirt. The iron was dirty and she asked for one to be brought up. No problems.
Check out was flawless and we checked our bags. We came back to change our clothes for our journey back home. There are two bathrooms in the restaurant located within the hotel.
I am pretty pleased with this hotel and will be staying here when I come back to DC.

After a long trip…(we were delayed at the airport), we arrived before our check-​in time. Jared was kind enough to make some calls and did all he could to accommodate us. We really appreciated the time, effort, and the service that was offered to us. Being weary from our travels, we really needed to rest. The hotel room was spacious and clean. We even have a kitchenette. The location is convenient, close to stores, the metro, sites, and GWU. Free wifi is a bonus, especially for work and study. We highly recommend this hotel for the quality of service offered, the rooms, and the convenience. Will stay here again!

This place is okay. It’s hard to find the front since it’s in an entrance down a driveway. Clean place but everything seems crammed. The elevators are really small; 3 people could fit almost comfortably. The restaurant is very small too but nice. Prefixed menu with little options. Overall not my first pick of hotel/​restaurant but better than driving back home late.

I booked two rooms for myself and three colleagues. We originally passed by this place. It’s tucked away, so it’s easy to miss. When we pulled into the one way courtyard, we couldn’t even figure out where the parking would be. I assume that must be hidden. So suffice to say, valet parking is not optional. It’s mandatory.
The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. If I were rating the hotel on the staff alone, I would give 5 stars.
But the other factors such as the actual accommodations and the rates (which don’t reflect the quality of the accommodations) merit a 3 star rating at best.
The GWU Inn is certainly quaint and no frills. But the rates are certainly not!
A friend informed me that the weekday hotel rates in DC are double the weekend rates. Putting two and two together, I realized that the weekday patrons were most likely business travelers. Hence, the hotel stay would probably be a business reimbursement. Clever, if not just a bit sneaky. And borderline unethical. And I’m totally perplexed why our economy is broken *said with heavy sarcasm*. I apologize for the embedded rant. Just not a fan of corporate greed. Ok, I gave my two cents. I’m all good now.
I almost forgot… the hideaway parking was $ 40 plus tax. Gotta love big cities. :)

Stayed two nights, nothing special but very pleasant. Clean rooms and bathrooms, plus plenty of towels and pillows. Front staff was friendly. They were particularly helpful when I called a few days after check-​out looking for something I had left behind. I was put right through to the housekeeping manager who was very nice about the whole thing. I would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here on a recent trip to DC and found it very pleasant. A big change from the chain hotels, and a good one. We will stay here again on our next trip to Washington. Coffee in the morning would be a good thing to provide (sorry, a coffee maker in the room doesn’t count).

I’M SURE MY EXPERIENCE WAS UNUSUAL, BUT THEY HAD NO ROOM FOR ME EVEN THOUGH I HAD A CONFIRMED
RESERVATION. THE HOTEL ITSELF SEEMS FINE, BUT THE ISSUE AND THE WAY IT WAS HANDLED WAS PRETTY BAD.
When I arrived at the hotel at 10:00 pm after flying all day, I was told that there was no room for me and they had rebooked me at another hotel.
I flew in to Washington DC to meet a co-​worker who was staying at this hotel. We needn’t to work together in the hotel, crash for a few hours and keep working in the morning until an important meeting. The hotel’s attitude was they could do nothing for me other than send me to the other hotel. I ended up sleeping on the couch in my co-worker’s room.
Although some of the staff seemed to be understanding, the folks in charge adopted a very «there is nothing we can do attitude.» Emailing
to help me get my refund and comping my breakfast was an appropriate remedy as far as they were concerned.
I have no issue with The GWU Inn itself. The hotel is perfectly fine. The room, occupied by one person or a couple, is perfectly pleasant (quite cramped if someone is sleeping on the couch). I am sure many people will go and have a good experience. I am not telling you not to go. Just be prepared that if something goes wrong, you are not going to get particularly good service. They are not a place that makes you warm and coozy, but it is fine for a room for the night.
PS: They also told me that they couldn’t notify me about the problems because
had my info and they can’t get it. They indicated it was better to make the reservation directly with the hotel. Does anyone know if it is true that
won’t give the hotel you are staying at contact info in the case of a problem?

I give it a 4 for value and location. As a Vegan I value proximity to food I can eat & there is a Whole Foods 5 minutes away. It is also right next to the Metro (Orange and Blue Lines). The building is a bit frayed at the edges, but functional. I have stayed twice and been happy both times. There is free Wi-​Fi but its capacity is not adequate. Again, OK for the price. I booked through Travelocity both times.

Well, 2.5 stars better reflects this place. VERY thin walls and VERY noisy. We slept with the TV turned on so the ambient noise would drown out the loud-​mouthed clientele. And dont eat at the in-​house restaurant. Depressing breakfast buffet.
However, we paid a total of $ 95 (tax included) a night using a discount website, which is really, really good for DC. But, you pay the price otherwise…

I am tempted to give them one star– but will go with two.
We had reservations for two KING standard rooms. Meaning– standard rooms with king sized beds. My assistant was traveling with me– and confirmed this reservation the day before we were to arrive. Upon check in– we were FIRST informed that only one of these rooms was going to be available. The original guy at check in was kind, wonderful, and friendly. He told us that the other would have to be a room with 2 double beds. Sucks– but is life.
However, soon– an obnoxious man came out of the back room and changed this situation. He went into a long soliloquy about how they only had 8 king rooms in the hotel– and all of the rooms were standards. He informed us that the guests in these rooms had decided to extend their stays, and that we would have to take rooms with 2 doubles. Normally– without the explanation– I would be OK. However, he was extremely Patronizing. No way. Do not pull this on me. I asked him to explain how we were confirmed for these rooms, and then they disappeared. He explained that they did not. They still had our exact reservation and were honoring it to the T. Obviously– if we were not getting king beds– that is not true. I rephrased is explanation for him– and had my assistant pull the reservation, stating that if they were not kings– that was not true. Given his tone– and his attitude– I was ready to walk. We were already not staying at my other 3 choices due to 8^th grade trips. So we were stuck. Needless to say– he dug himself a hole in putting other customer’s comfort in front of ours– and acknowledging it upfront.
The rooms were OK. Nothing to write home about. Yes, they had a refrigerator. Whohoo!
The rest of the staff was fantastic. However, I never got over the idiot that rudely took over our check in– and I will not be back. Considering I am in DC about once a month– for a week at a time. A normally drop a few hundred a the hotel restaurant– etc… oh well. Their loss. I will be following up with a letter to the General manager. Customer service is key– especially at a time like this. This persons skills need some work.
