Georgetown University Hotel and Conference Center

The location was fair. I expected it to be in Georgetown University and the location so I wasn’t surprised.
I cannot understand why the Wi-​Fi was free in the lobby for non guests to use freely but charged $ 10 per day PER DEVICE! What?
They stand true to their check-​in time. We arrived at 2:45 but couldn’t get into our room until 4. My rooms were ready. There is no fridge in the rooms. There should at least be mini fridges in the rooms. Water was not offered. But I could pay $ 5.00 for the bottle that they placed in the rooms. The vending machines in the lobby only accepted student cards. Not regular credit cards even though they were set up to swipe. The vending machines on my floor didn’t work but I can travel to the top floor to use theirs. But I had to take the stairs because the elevator would only let me go to my floor.
The hotel is green. Or attempting to be green. Do they know that it takes more to heat water? Well my water was HOT! And there was no way to cool it off. It was either slightly to the left and scorching hot or slightly to the right and not spraying.
Parking was $ 25 a day! There were plenty of parking spots in the parking structure so space wasn’t an issue. They could have easily comped the parking or reduce the rate for hotel guests.
I saw a dead rat in on the driveway. It had been there for a while. Be prepared to hike for any restaurants or shopping. And by hike I mean deal with drunk kids on fraternity row, stinking of booze, being obnoxious and attempting to start fights with passerby’s.
The only highlight was the fact that I could check out early and leave far far away and not be charged for the time that I had originally reserved the rooms for.

Pros: Clean room, fitness club with treadmill, a bike, elliptical machines and white towels, in addition to complimentary apples and newspapers at the reception.
You need your room key to activate the elevator and open the fitness club’s door.
Cons: Overpriced ($ 200 per night) hard-​to-​find hotel, wi-​fi, parking, crib ($ 20), paid pool, etc.
We booked this room through award points earned on an airplane loyalty program.
We will not consider coming back here. We would recommend staying at the affordable Best western Dulle airport to visit Washington DC.

Really, what the heck is with all these reviews griping about the location of the hotel? Who is booking their hotel rooms without checking to see where the hotel is in proximity to where they want to be? The name of the place has ‘Georgetown University’ in it. The hotel is on campus. No one’s pulling the wool over your eyes. I’m baffled that a place would get docked points in a review simply because the person staying there was too lazy to use common sense.
That said, the rooms were clean and comfortable. No frills, but no complaints either. The front desk had its good people and its bad people, but overall the service there was fine. We were comp’d breakfast on our last day there due to some complications, which was super nice. The housekeeping and maintenance staff were all incredibly friendly, and you can tell that someone in management is keeping a tight customer service policy with the personnel. The hospital rate for the room is very reasonable.
There are some bad points. Wifi is $ 10 per day PER DEVICE, which is ridiculous. With two people in our room, we simply refused to pay $ 20 per day just to be able to use a laptop and a tablet. They need to remedy this. It’s 2014, people — stop charging people extra for being able to use the internet. The parking is incredibly overpriced, but it is my understanding that they are not the owners of the parking deck. They do not explain to you that you need a parking pass from the front desk for the hospital rate for EACH DAY, though, which they should have done.
There were some missing amenities, which some others have pointed out. There was no hotel bar, meaning that if you wanted a drink or a quick bite to eat at night you had to hike to Epicurean. Most of the other amenities, I did not miss. I was there to have a clean and comfortable room near the hospital, and that’s what I got. While that may not earn them a stellar, rave review, it at least gets them a fair one.

Georgetown’s on-​campus hotel is a genuinely subpar option. They charge $ 10/​day for internet (everywhere else on campus is free for guests w login), and the only place with free wifi is their lobby.
So let’s begin by discussing their lobby and front desk area. Their only free wifi area is in a small lobby sitting area where they have a large TV airing the news as music plays loudly overhead at the same time. It is impossible to hear anything and equally impossible to work. There’s also some very inefficiently used club chairs over by an entryway where you see «Georgetown University» written in bold print at least 6 times, all in different fonts. The hotel screams «Georgetown» so much it’s enough to make you question if you’re actually in the right place.
The rooms are perfectly adequate, but food options are horrible, and the service really embarrassing. Good luck getting a cab because our here on campus there is no organic traffic and the front desk estimates cans take 20 minutes to call, though in my experience needing a can here to et to Reagan to make a flight, 30 mins was more accurate.
I’ve stayed here multiple times and most recently, I needed to mail some important packages. I told the front desk I needed them mailed out with the following days mail, and it seemed as though they were uncomfortable or unsure about the task but reluctantly I left them on the counter. I had second thoughts and went back down from the elevator to find the packages were still there, unattended. I took them back — I didn’t trust they would actually get mailed.
I believe they are trying to improve service an after check in I got a call asking if my room was satisfactory, and it was, but they asked nothing of the service which, in my opinion, is lacking.

The Georgetown University Hotel and Conference Center is a bit of a victim of where it is, but it’s nice all the same.
This hotel is located directly next to the Georgetown hospital, making it an ideal place to stay for those undergoing procedures. To that end, though, there’s an obvious problem: the location is crowded, a bit hard to find, and a bit out-​of-​the-​way. Suffice to say, I had a very difficult time finding it, especially given some construction in the area.
Thankfully, the rooms and service were excellent. This is definitely not a five-​star hotel, but it suffices for my purposes — it was clean, comfortable, and nice. The room service menu was kinda awful (the dinner options are little more than generic American stuff), but the service was prompt nonetheless.

Have you ever been to a hotel with no hotel bar??? Yea, well, I have. Have you ever settled in for the night wanting to watch a movie but couldn’t? That’s right, I have. Seriously, what hotel doesn’t want to make money off ordering a movie in the room? Apperently this place. What’s the benefit of staying at this hotel? It must be the awesome resturant. Oh wait, that doesn’t exist. Then it must be the ridiculous pool and spa. Nope. Also non existant. Well it must be that insane coke machines? Nope. They are broken. So is the one one the next floor. Well the gym must be one awesome f – king gym??? Hahahaha, sucka, they only have two girly treadmills and a few weights in a room that could fit two people. Okay, why am I here then? Oh because it’s the closest place to the hospital where my mom is recovering from surgery. oh by the way, they have a massive rat problem. Yea, and they were well organized too! Should have seen these bas — ds jump on top of themselves like circus clowns getting into the trash.
Anyway, this is not a hotel. It’s a dwelling. People stay here due to proximity of the hospital. No other reason. One benefit though, I was able to watch the hottie georgetown girls soccer team play a game on the soccer field right next to the hotel. And that’s why this hotel gets two stars instead of one. The hotel can thank the georgetown women’s soccer team for the stars. Go Hoyoas!!!

I went to a conference here and this review is for the coffee breaks and meals. The lunches were hit or miss, sometimes with quantity overshadowing quality. They had expensive dishes, like salmon, but sometimes the way they were prepared made them not so good. The coffee is great and the food and snacks we got at the coffee breaks were great too. The servers were also nice.

Not the greatest. Could use a restaurant for dinner that has table service. Nice view from the window. Clean comfortable.

Nice hotel and very convenient if you’re there for something related to the hospital. Clean comfortable room. The mattress was way more comfortable than mine at home! So comfy!!! The staff was very friendly. There were always taxis waiting outside if you needed one. It was not close to any metro stations, so you have to take a taxi. Only complaint would be the lack of refrigerator in the room. I could have used one!

Horrible service, especially by the front desk lady, Angela, a short-​haired African woman. My experience with the Georgetown University Hotel and Conference Center was unexpectedly bad. I found bed bugs in my bed, and when I told Angela at the front desk, she falsely offered to provide me with new accommodations to make up for the bad room. I never received the accommodations she promised.
The location of the hotel also made it very difficult for my driver to drop me off. I had to spend 20 minutes walking around campus in attempt to find the entrance of the hotel, which was hidden because of the construction.
Overall, I was largely dissatisfied with my stay.

If you have to stay close this is the place. the service at the front desk was excellent, but the accommodations were sub-​par. But as always, location, location, location is the most important thing here. Parking and driving is a nightmare and do not try and go anywhere after they lock the doors at 9:00 PM as there is one emergency room entrance on the whole medical campus… and the hotel, if you can find either.

I really should have been tipped off that this place was not likely to be that special when every… single…cab driver looked confused when I asked them to take me to this place over the weekend. The location can generously be described as discreet and is tucked on the Georgetown Campus.
The front desk did almost nothing to endear themselves to me on arrival. I arrived at about 10am after working all night looking forward to immediately going to sleep. I was told that there were no rooms available, they had no idea how long it would be, and check-​in time was 4pm. Seriously? On a Friday morning? Bullshit. After I hung uncomfortably close to the desk for half an hour glowering at the staff, a room was miraculously located.
The rooms were functional, nothing special, but nothing to complain about, either.
I will agree with the earlier comment about the car service. There was never any choice but to have the bellman call for you as the location is hidden, and they will try to get you to use the service instead. I know they get a cut, but it’s obnoxious.
I’m just glad I didn’t have to pay for this one. The location sucked (the closest access point to the Metro is IN VIRGINIA), the hotel was serviceable but dull, and the staff unhelpful.

Although the rooms are clean and the front desk staff are wonderful, I have to give this place a 2 star rating.
I’m a business traveler, so there are things that are really important to get right.
— a good gym: although this is 24 hour, it’s not sufficient for my «stay in shape while on the road» needs.
— a good bed: although they are upgraded with nice sheets and good pillows, the mattresses are so soft and lumpy I was awake by 3am with an achey back
— a good location: I love Georgetown, but this is just too far from most of my work activity in the city.
I want the staff service to make up for these things (Really, you guys are graceful under pressure and very professional) but I can’t justify a higher rating with these three big problems.

* bedside alarms don’t work.
* somehow in-​room breakfast works out to almost twice as much after taxes etc.
* no treadmill in exercise room.
* if you ask the front desk to call you a cab to get you to Dulles, they will not call a cab, but some shady ‘limo’ company that will rip you off.

Pricey & Inconvenient
Overpriced. Especially considering the amenities:
* Slow and intermittent pay-​per-​day wireless Internet service. (If you like the phrase «acquiring network address» this is the place for you!)
* No continental breakfast
* No pool
* No fitness room
Terrible location:
* It is wedged deep into the campus (back behind a hospital?) and as a result, getting in and out is always a trial.
* It is quite far from any bars or restaurants in Georgetown proper. Hope you brought your hiking shoes.
* It is inaccessible by DC Metro trains, so you MUST take a cab from the airport
** Because it is deep into the campus and accessible only through a couple of parking lots, you will either pay a goodly sum while the meter runs and you slowly creep in from the main street to the hotel, or the cab will try to put you out near the main street and let you meander your way through the parking lots looking for the hotel.
** And hailing a cab is virtually impossible. Although the desk staff said they called multiple cabs every time one pulled up there was a mad scramble and scrape to claim the ride.
Check out
* 11 AM. No extensions. You can buy an extra hour for $ 30!
* No in-​room checkout with TV. You have to go down to the desk and stand in line.
* You should ask the desk to call a cab for you when you’re packing up so that there is some chance that there will be a cab for you when you are checked out.
* Give yourself plenty of time if you have a flight because of the cab situation.
Staff
* Rude to my wife.
* Should be aware of cab problem and act preemptively to address it.
Certainly not the worst place I’ve ever stayed in, but dollar-​for-​dollar it’s up there.

This hotel is like all the way in the back of the woods… the Location SUCKS!!!
Then they charge you almost $ 20 to park your car there so we parked on the streets and had to walk almost 3 blocks to our car.
We got this hotel on priceline for a good price but once I found out it was all the way behind the hospital in the middle of Timbuktu I was so upset.
The rooms were just ok not spectacular.
There was no wireless internet in the rooms I had to go downstairs by the front desk and get on the computer

The location is awful. Our cab driver didn’t seem to know where it was. That’s because it is buried on the Georgetown campus in a building that says «Conference Center» on the awning. It’s attached to what amounts to the student union, so there is a Cosi and a Starbucks and some other random fast food things in the same building. But, there is no bar or sit-​down restaurant for dinner, and it’s a long, confusing walk off campus to find someplace to eat after a day at the conference. Getting a cab out on checkout day was a horrible, painful process. I, and others, waited for more than an hour. One cabbie came for a fare to Dulles, then when he found out that this person gave up on waiting and took a shuttle, he drove off without taking any of the rest of us who were waiting. I ended up having to call my wife who then grabbed a cab on Capitol Hill and came over to pick me up at the hotel.
The hotel room itself was fine, but the location was so bad, that it was like staying in a Marriott on the Moon.

This is my second time in Washington DC. Probably should wait till I check out before I write this review. First impression, overpriced. Wireless you have to pay for per day. A business hotel like the Hampton Inn or Hilton Garden, the service is free On the negative, this hotel doesn’t serve a continental breakfast either. Nor does this hotel have a pool or a fitness room.
However there is a Starbucks in the main lobby. The staff are friendly and the beds are comfy. The location may not be so great depending on what one’s purpose is in Washington DC. Having a conference with workshops and preparation, the hotel is ideal. There is a ballroom. To play tourist, good luck catching a cab or navigating the bus system to get downtown.
I would only come back to this hotel if I had business with Georgetown University. Worst case scenario, all other hotels in Washington DC are booked.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. It was chosen and paid for by the folks who sent me to DC. My understanding was that it was a former Marriott. Hotel was clean. Check in was ok. No real facilities. Starbucks was nice and right in lobby area. I didnt like the location. Off the main road. Sometimes hard to get a cab. Spent a fortune in cabs to the Hill during the day and to the Georgetown Restaurants and Nightlife in the evening. I prefer staying in Arlington/​Crystal City and hoping on the Metro for everything. No Metro at all in that area. Bed felt like a magic carpet ride. soft hard. Not that impressed but in the end it didnt cost me anything.
Probably wouldnt stay here again unless I had business on the Georgetown campus.

I probably should wait until I check OUT to review this hotel, but hey, I’m not a waiter. My company booked this hotel last minute because there was a huge conference in DC this week and apparently our regular Hyatt hotel was sold out. I did wonder about the location and what to expect. Upon arrival, you are in the middle of a university albeit a nice university. The lobby didn’t tell me much. It’s almost a bit «mish-​mash» in that the décor is nice and new, but doesn’t have a theme– it seems like it was just an afterthought. Not a deal-​breaker. The check-​in staff was very kind and customer service focused. As I walked the halls to my room, they seemed a bit run-​down and I was dreading opening the door. I was pleasantly surprised. My room is one that has clearly been redecorated recently. The bed is huge and exceedingly comfortable. The décor is modern and yet «welcoming». Huge desk to work on, yet I will say for business-​people, there are NOT a lot of plugs available at the desk. Flat screen TV, great view of the courtyard outside and modern clean carpet too. It’s really quite chic. Also they have a very nice selection of channels on TV, unlike some hotels with only 17 channels of ESPN and C-​SPAN. The bathroom area– the actual bathtub/​toilet area is kind of «old» looking (meaning not über-​modern, I don’t mean to say old and rackety) but outside that is a very chic/​modern sink area with top notch bath products from Bath & Body Works. Nice touch.
I will update this review later but I will say, this hotel is a nice surprise.
UPDATED: I’m definitely going to stay here again. The beds are truly some of the most comfortable I’ve been in, in ages. To die for. It is quiet– and bonus– there is a Starbucks and a COSI in the building! They also have a basket of apples in the morning at the front desk and cookies in the afternoon. Friendly staff and a hidden gem.
