H&R Block

The appointment took 2.5 hours for a not particularly complex filing (2 W2s and 3 1099s). The consultant mistakenly entered in twice the amount of my capital gains over what they were supposed to be. Had my husband not caught the mistake it would have likely doubled the amount my husband and I owed to the IRS. When he explained the mistake to our consultant her response was a mumbled «well, I had to type in a lot of numbers.» (This was after we caught her typing multiple incorrect pieces of information). We will need to review our filing again because we are still not confident at all things were entered correctly. We were charged $ 400 to sit there while someone essentially used a turbo-​tax like program (very slowly). I will NEVER use H&R block again.

I had a fairly terrible experience with this office and will never use H&R Block again. I normally do my own taxes. However, having a more complicated situation the past year and not enough time this spring, we decided to have our taxes completed at H&R Block. The service fee for H&R Block was exorbitant, and it was extremely time inefficient. After 2 hours in the initial session, the tax specialist basically came to the same conclusion that I had on my own. Then, because of their schedule I was unable to get a second appointment until one month later, at which time it became evident the tax specialist had done no further research or work on my file, which was the entire point of needing a second appointment. There was no manager for me to speak with, and ultimately there seemed to be little tax institutional knowledge unless you are have a straight-​forward scenario. Even the receptionist seemed to be disorganized and my credit card was charged before I saw what I was charged. The only positive aspect they displayed was several tax consultants who where bilingual (Spanish/​English).

I highly recommend Dorita Johnson at the Cleveland Park H&R Block. She was SO nice, really funny, and got me an amazing refund which I definitely was not expecting. She was personable, brilliant and generally fantastic. If you need your taxes done this is the place to go. It cost about $ 165 (but I had a $ 20 discount) for my appointment which I will gladly pay again next year when it’s tax time again.

A funny and rare thing happened here: there was joy at a tax office. And it wasn’t because of a refund. It was because of Diana and Ali.
I had been told by H&R Block corporate that I could sched a session here as part of the online offering I’d purchased for tax prep. But they had it wrong. And this office isn’t supposed to fulfill the online review; they’re more of a premium service.
But once I was there, both Diana and Ali jumped in and said «we’ll review and help you out anyway.» Above and beyond! And they were cordial. And witty. We laughed and had a good time. Doing taxes! Plus, they solved the one problem I had.
Go see them, and ask for Diana or Ali.

this review is for the employees … in my opinion, H & R Block charges WAY too much, and i’ll probably go elsewhere next year to get my taxes done. that being said … the receptionist working last Friday evening (i believe her name is Ebony) and Diana Bui are AMAZING. Ebony was really nice and friendly. i sat down with Diana and she answered my questions honestly, providing exactly the information that i was looking for. Diana is smart, nice, transparent, and helpful. great employees at this location, and i hope that they are appreciated for their great work!

I’ve had FANTASTIC experiences with Diana and Dick at this H and R Block location. I find them both so helpful, thorough, patient, and kind. I really felt like they took a personal interest in me and my unique tax situation. Diana actually sat with me for TWO hours going over the nuances of my 2012 return.
I’d suggest scheduling with one of these two tax preparers and schedule early as they are both so good, they fill up in advance. I also did my homework by communicating with them before my appointment so I knew EXACTLY what to bring to ensure we had everything we needed when I sat down for my appointment.

This place is garbage. First they don’t have anyone that actually picks up the phone. This is some of the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. They just sound in thier voice like they don’t care. Don’t go here!

To be fair, I did not actually get my taxes done here. I made my appointment and showed up on time and waited 55 minutes before I gave up and left.
During that time, one of the male staff members waxed philosophical about massages (in some highly inappropriate terms), politics, and life in general, to two other staff members. I learned one will vote for Trump if he runs, that alone should have made me walk out. Anyway, none of the three conversants seemed to be too concerned about the people in the waiting area.
The guy who was supposed to do my taxes did — after 35 minutes– introduce himself, explain that they were having a problem and then said «they will get me a desk and get started» and then I didn’t see him again at all. He seemed nice and competent, I should say that.
In the meantime, the massage enthusiast took a call that was a complaint about another staff member. That staff member took umbrage and a loud fight ensued between the two men after the call was finished, in full view and hearing of everyone. Highly unprofessional! After several requests to take it outside and reminding them not to do this in front of clients I guess it quieted down. I don’t know, I walked out at that point.
Update: In the same amount of time I waited at this place, I did my return in my own home with Turbo Tax online while watching Law and Order reruns. Cost me $ 30 and my returns are all filed. Unilocal rating for Turbo Tax on my couch with Law and Order in the background: 5 stars.

i had an appt at 1, I checked in at 1pm, 30 minutes pass by and i get up to see why no one is helping me. the said it would only be a second. then a lady come up and saidshe would be right with me. 15 mins go by and I’m finally helped.
we start getting into my tax return and the computer from 1987 crashes, so now we have to start all over again.
To get my taxes done it ends up taking 2 hours. Keep in mind that I’ve only had one job in the passed year and i have live in DC the entire time. all of this can be your for $ 176.00 at least that’s what I was charged.
