Holiday Inn Express & Suites Washington Dc Northeast

I was placed w this hotel through
and I wasn’t very satisfied with the location. The room was nice. The staff was friendly. It was on the corner of a very busy intersection which made it difficult to leave the hotel. And the surrounding area didn’t make us feel very safe to be around.

We stayed here for our first time visiting DC. We were not familiar with the location of the hotel in relation to the federal buildings and Washington DC attractions. It is not close to those attractions and is located in a not so nice neighborhood. But the good thing is that they offer free shuttle service to the Union Station in the mornings and a free return shuttle from Union station in the evenings. However it is only up to 11 AM in the morning and you need to get on the sign up sheet. And the last shuttle picks up at 8 PM at Union Station to return to the hotel. If you cannot make it during these times, you will need to call a cab.
The hotel itself is clean, friendly staff, and offers a continental breakfast every morning in a large dining room. It was very convenient to not to worry about where to go to breakfast. We also enjoyed the microwave and mini fridge in our room.
We used the swimming pool once because the kids really wanted to go swimming. The place was very noisy and there were lots of kids in the pool. They enjoyed it but said the swimming pool was a bit dirty.
As far as nearby places to eat, there are only fast food restaurants around and you do not want to be walking around at night. We did order take out Chinese food from a restaurant that delivers to the hotel all the time and it was pretty good and convenient.
If we did visit DC again in the future, I would have liked to stayed closer and walking distance to the attractions. However, those hotels are more expensive. If you are on a budget, this place is a good one as long as you understand that it’s not close to the attractions but there is a free shuttle that will bring you to the Union station so you can take the Metro train. The Metro train system is excellent by the way. We were expert Metro riders by the end of the trip.

The staff was amazing! Everyone was incredibly friendly! The room was clean. Room had a fridge, microwave, and sink. Delicious free breakfast. The neighborhood was a little rough but the hotel offers a free shuttle to Union Station. Felt very safe and comfortable in the hotel. Disagree with another persons review about a cab. The front desk staff called a cab for us on multiple occasions and they were very prompt (less than 10 minutes) to arrive.

Meh. Just okay. When I arrived, one of the employees was on the front side of the desk just leaning against it. Nobody was behind the desk & he informed me that someone would be right with me. It’s the longest I’ve waited before actually having someone appear at a hotel.
When she finally appeared she was pleasant enough, but not overly so. They have a wheel to spin for IHG members to get extra points, upgrades, etc. My spin actually landed on a good one, I got a free movie with drink & popcorn! However, the woman did not adequately explain how this was to work, & I just wanted to get to my room so I figured I would call down.
On my way out to get dinner, I stopped at the front desk to get some clarification, & there was a new girl there. So I explained the situation — there had been no notation made on my room /​account about my spin. A man called out something from the office — I couldn’t hear what was said. She explained that I could grab a drink & popcorn from the «pantry» and order a movie from my tv & they would take it off the bill.
Of course it wasn’t taken off the bill the next morning when I received it & I had to go request a new one. However, it was a pretty good treat, as I selected a movie that was $ 16.99. Getting that for free was pretty sweet.
Ugh, the shower. When I was showering in the morning, the pressure was EXTREMELY low, and it kept turning off completely. Happened 5 or 6 times while I was in there (& I do not take long showers). Pretty annoying.
I’m not overly impressed with HIE breakfasts anymore, but this one was particularly unpleasant:
— the cream cheese & butter packets were room temp /​warm. Not cool. Like … fully room temperature. Because of that I decided to go with peanut butter on my morning toast, I was legitimately worried it had been out too long.
— the breads were all like. wrapped in saran wrap. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen that.
— the hard boiled eggs were kept in the refrigerator — & while I understand that eggs DO smell — I’ve never smelled them that bad before! I went in there to grab a skim milk and was hit in the face with the unpleasant odor. Gross.
Area isn’t wonderful — but the hotel property seems very safe.
Parking: $ 15 a day, plenty of it.

WORST hotel in the DC area that we’ve ever stayed in.
After 6 hotels in six weeks in the DC area, all under the IHG brand (which owns Holiday Inn Express).
This is, BY FAR, the worst customer service of any of the hotels.
First, we tried to check in at 2pm. Which is earlier than 3, yes, but we also are priority club members AND we called the morning of to make sure there would be a room available, after being told there would be a room available we packed up our luggage and headed over.
They turned us away in the rain to wait an hour. No apology, no class, just a curt «Nope, we don’t have any rooms. Come back at 3.» (Yes, that’s verbatim)
ANY customer service request we had (toilet paper, shuttle requests) was met with zero courtesy and ridiculous delays for even a busy lobby (which it was not at the time we stayed during off-​season).
On top of that, the staff entered our room while we had a do not disturb sign on the door. I was LIVID to say the least.
Not only did management not even offer an apology for the violation of company policy, they were very cold and blew it off.
I normally LOVE Holiday Inn, the staff is usually friendly, the amenities are GREAT for the price, they’re usually in great locations, but this site is BEYOND AWFUL!
The only redeeming factor is that the hotel seems to be either brand new or recently renovated the rooms are gorgeous. But if you need any kind of staff service while you’re staying, tough luck.

For a hotel in the middle of nowhere (well it is next to the Arboretum I guess), this place is actually pretty nice. They have free parking, free wifi, a full free breakfast with sausage and eggs and gravy, and the beds are pretty comfy too. Plus with flat screen tvs and pretty helpful service, this place really isn’t too bad at all.
BUT there is nothing around it other than a checkers and fast food chains. No metro, one maybe two buses that don’t come that often, and the area it is in, really is not that safe at night. Two of my cab drivers during my time there said, you are staying at that holiday inn over there? You should be careful at night there, good thing you are cabbing it. So if cab drivers think it is sketchy it definitely must be sketchy. The hotel does off free shuttle service to union station but it isn’t offered all the time, and they sometimes fill up in which case you are just screwed! Plus they don’t run late either, so end up having to spend more money on taxis since you can’t really get to this hotel any other way…
So if you are fine with all that, and want a cheap hotel to stay in that basically includes everything other than easy accessibility it is definitely fine. But if it is your first time to DC and you didn’t get a rental car, good luck getting around the city.

by far the best holiday inn i have ever been in, i am a fan!!! really great service and all the employees are real nice, the pool is also great, the only thing i would change is the gym, i would block the pool view, i had a hard time working out with a bunch of people staring at me =[

After having a horrible experience and having to find a new hotel we found this Holiday Inn Express. We were instantly greeted by their wonderful staff and they told us everything about the hotel. The hotel was new so everything was very clean and well stocked. The pool was also very clean and they stocked the towels every day. The staff was very nice when we asked about directions and they helped us with the shuttle service they provide and the metro. Basically if we had any questions they were there. Also their continental breakfast was delicious, way more food than expected. They have security driving around the parking lot at night, and the doors can only be opened with a hotel room key after 11pm. I felt very safe here. I would definitely stay here again in a heart beat!

Finally, we’re on our last place of our trip of east coast. After Chicago and New York, Washington is definitely a winner. Everyone is so glad that we picked washington to be our last stop.
The hotel is a bit in the outskirt of Washington. This place is a definite 4*. It’s clean, big room, free wifi, excellent service, nice HD TV, FREE SHUTTLE to the union station and the room furniture is just exceptional. The hotel offer breakfast (will update with the food selections), fitness center, spa, swimming pool, and the usual amenities. The only thing that bothers me is the old style AC located below the window instead of the central AC for a high class hotel. The noise of the AC is acceptable and everyone is impressed when we first entered the room.
