Kimpton Hotel Palomar Washington DC

Overall, not a fan. I used to love coming here (since all the way back when there was a Palomar in Dupont and a Palomar in Rosslyn), but it seems you’ve fallen off a bit. I know the Kimpton site is reflecting a «new renovation» and that part is fantastic. But the staff just don’t seem to have the attentiveness they used to. For example.
1. Looking to watch game of thrones and then john Oliver on HBO on Sunday night, I couldn’t find a channel listing in the room so I called the front desk. The guy had no idea what channels were which but said «I can send a technician up to help you.» Seriously? I’m just trying to find a channel number, I don’t need a technician for that. Also funny that the front desk has no clue.
SPOILER ALERT: this is the ONE hotel in all of DC without HBO. And just when you though that little item comes standard nowadays…
2. Leave one day and head out to grab a cab. Valet asks where I’m going and I say «**** independence avenue.» He gets the door to the cab and tells the cabbie «Reagan.» Gee, thanks for listening.
3. Checkout time, just after 12 on a Wednesday, and wow, one person working the front desk with 11 people in line. This is a luxury boutique? Finally another attendant comes out to assist though apparently we are a huge inconvenience to her.
Long story short: there are more than 10 kimptons in DC (more than a dozen if you include Alexandria). You should definitely stay with Kimpton, but stay somewhere else: the Donovan, the Monaco, heck even the George has better service than this.

Loved staying at this hotel. Beautiful room, soft bed, great TV, good room service (the room service offerings didn’t match the menu, but the room service guy gave me a free glass of wine to compensate!), super courteous front desk staff, free apples in the gym, outdoor pool, coffee in the lobby, wine in the afternoon. What more could you ask for!!!

I’d love to provide 6 stars, if I could! I’ve been to hotels up and down the range of stars… okay, maybe not a super expensive hotel, but this is quality!
Mini bar… two separate ones w/​everything from wine, liquor, beer, chips, intimacy kit, and a jam box ($ 140 markup)!?

You know a place is worth it when you can’t wait to return before you even leave!

Love this place since we found it a few years ago! The staff is very friendly and always accommodating. The room was huge and very clean, as always. Tip is to go on the web site and look at the footage on the room, some are bigger even if it’s called the same. Not much of a view this time, but with a King Spa room. who needs a view! This is our place to stay in DC!

Just spent another 4 nights at the Palomar and somehow it proved better than the last time. The renovations are tastefully done and the Fuji soak tub room I was in is larger than my DC condo.
This place thinks of everything. Love the teas and infused water in the morning, and the fruits change daily. The room had small jars of Aveda bath salts for the jetted tub (which is AMAZING and I totally need one). The wine happy hour had pizza from from Urbana one night, and the folks manning the wine bucket were very kind with their pours. :) There was also a specialty spritzer drink this week which was a nice added change. It’s a fun nightly gathering and the staff members have great personalities.
One tip: snag as much of the hotel lotion as possible! That stuff smells amazing!
Check-​in was quick, check-​out was my only negative this time. There were 2 people manning the desk, but only one seemed to be working, so it was a slow process. I ended up paying the taxi driver extra to wait for me as I handed my bags off to the concierge before checking out. ! I suppose that’s self inflicted, but I was surprised that it took 12+ minutes (or at least that’s what the meter charged me!) to just get a printed copy of my bill. Usually check-​out is the fastest part!

This is one of those hotels that doesn’t have windows that open. While the result of this atrocious trend is usually only an unrelenting staleness, the humidity in DC enables mildew as well.
The staff was helpful when I asked to change rooms — unfortunately the only available room I was shown was worse than the first. Instead of mildew, the room had a harsh, chemical smell. I’m not a chemphobe by any means, but that smell bordered on industrial. If that’s what housekeeping is using to clean my room, I’d really like to have windows that actually open.
This is the second Kimpton property I’ve stayed at while visiting DC. Both boasted a restaurant in their first floor. Both seemed unable or unwilling to cooperate with their restaurants to make even the smallest item on the restaurant menu available to guests via room service. (You may get lucky now and again if the person at the room service desk decides she likes you, but don’t get too comfortable.)
It’s not that the staff doesn’t care. So far, they’ve been mostly attentive. It’s very clear that they’re woefully understaffed, leading to noticeable lapses in service. In addition, some of them have a tendency to ignore the Do Not Disturb sign, knock loudly and incessantly, and open the door without waiting for an answer.
This is not a hotel for a tryst — at least not unless you’re the exhibitionist type. They will walk in on you without any regard to privacy whatsoever.
Overall, this isn’t a terrible stay. It provides a bed, roomy closets, ²⁴⁄₇ room service and wi-​fi. But it’s not the best stay. And you deserve the best stay.

I would give this place 6 starts if I could.

Just across the street from Scion Restaurant and two blocks from Dupont Circle Metro.
A very nice and roomy Queen Deluxe room, large bathroom and well appointed room.
A nice 60 inch Samsung HD TV, a well appointed bathroom with plenty of extras.
Such a fantastic location and quality hotel. I’m a huge fan of the Kimpton chain.
The staff here is so professional and helpful.
Very efficient valet parking and they are easy to accommodate a late check out request.
They also have a safe place to store your bags.

Sadly, I’m not one to write reviews but felt the need to express my thoughts on this hotel. I was excited to stay here with my friends for a night to celebrate my birthday! Upon check-​in I was told by the receptionist that the room I had booked was not available and that only a bigger room was available that would have charged an upcharge of $ 70. I was tired and didn’t really want to fight the issue as we had to check in to the room, get dressed to head out to a concert. She was kind enough to say she’d charge me half price and not the full amount.
Upon getting our keys, we went to the room only to find that room was occupied and peoples stuff was all over the room. At this point I was embarrassed and went back to the desk. She acted perplexed and wasn’t sure why this happened and acted as if the person was supposed to be out of the room and somehow she was unsure why. I was concerned b/​c this was around 6:30pm which meant housekeeping would have already came through. Nonetheless, she put us into a new room and we were on our way.
Upon getting home from the concert and dinner we came home with leftovers. We opened up the mini fridge and noticed it was 1. warm 2. full of mold. Which meant that our left overs would go to waste but being that it was 1am and were exhausted we just took it as a lost.
We did inform the checkout desk upon leaving of the issue with the mini fridge and out of courtesy they did not charge us the parking for our 2 vehicles which was kind.
Overall, the hotel is beautiful but it really wasn’t a great experience as you can see. I’m saddened as I love Kimpton hotels and this definitely put a huge damper on my birthday weekend.

Part of my job involves organizing group travel and I have to say this is one of the worst experiences I’ve had at a supposedly nice hotel. Everything was disorganized. When I arrived at the hotel on my first morning, I dropped off a bag for the afternoon at the front desk because I was there before check-​in and didn’t want to drag it around while workign. I was glad to be able to leave it for the day while I worked; however, upon return to the hotel, it took about 20 – 30 minutes to retrieve it again. I went to the front desk and the person who I spoke to was unable to find my reservation and then when I asked for my luggage he just pointed somewhere and said to go to the bell closet. I had no clue where he was pointing, there was no sign, and he brushed me off to start talking to someone else. Yay customer service. I then wandered around the lobby looking for the bell closet until I finally found what they were talking about in a corner behind a wall. Nobody was there staffing it. I had to call guest services to get someone to come get my luggage out. Not cool how long this took in the very brief window I had at the hotel between meetings.
Next, paying for the rooms: I used a card to prebook and pay for the rooms and was told that would be the card billed at the end of my stay. The guests on my trip were asked for their individual cards upon arrival and I assumed that would be for incidentals/​things like room service, etc. Wrong. Even though we had discussed how my company would pay, it was a nightmare getting it to work that way. Eventually one of my colleagues had to pay on his personal card and during our interaction with the front desk it turned out they didn’t actually have a bill prepared for our group. How do you book group travel and not have a bill for the group? The front desk manager looked up each room by hand, added them up, and then gave me a figure of ~ $ 10,000. This was itself a bit of a process since they apparently no longer knew which rooms were with our block and when I got the number, I knew it was off. I asked again for her to double-​check and she assured me that was the right rate. After insisting, she finally double-​checked: the rate was actually about $ 4000 (less than half of the price she quoted… umm…oops?).
Finally, check out: I had arranged for a late check out because my flight out wasn’t until 6:00 PM. The manager I spoke to promised he made a note on my account. Apparently, they said someone else checked me out (how is this possible? I don’t have a roommate and didn’t give them my room key?) and one of their staff just walked into my room this morning to start cleaning. I had a do not disturb sign up and had a late checkout. I’m glad I wasn’t changing or in the shower.

Stayed one night. Check in was easy. Staff was friendly. Room was on the 7^th floor. The room was pretty big and was designed in typical kimpton style.
Location was good to walk to the DuPont Circle.

The hubs and I took a short weekend trip to Washington, DC last weekend and stayed at the Palomar. We were pleasantly surprised by this boutique hotel. We take frequent trips to DC and this hotel is probably the nicest we’ve stayed in. Adjacent to Dupont Circle, the location was super convenient for us as it was just 5 minute walk to the metro.
The room was obviously just renovated and it still had new paint smell. One of the hallways was blocked off as it was being renovated while we stayed. The room was super trendy in décor– much more modern and chic then any hotel I’ve stayed in. The front desk service is amazing– super friendly and quick to help.
In the morning they serve complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate. They even provide whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate shavings, and peppermint pieces for the chocolate. From 5−6pm the hotel hosts a wine hour where you can try different wines from around the world. We didn’t try the adjacent resturant, Urbana, but signs said it was open for breakfast and dinner.
Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a hotel in the trendy Dupont Circle area!

I stayed at the Palomar during MLK weekend for a security conference up the road from the hotel, the location is great, but a few issues that weren’t addressed when I booked the room.

Well if you do, the Hotel Palomar is just the place for you and your significant furry other. Unlike other hotels I’ve stayed at which have dedicated floors for pets/​dogs, the whole hotel is pet-​friendly. My room had the obvious scent that a previous four-​legged (or maybe two) peed somewhere in the room, and with the carpeting, someone was unable to get everything sopped up.
I had just finished a 22-​hour engagement before flying into Washington D.C. and all I wanted to do was sleep, this was interrupted a number of times with the four-​legged neighbors growling and barking at all sorts of odd hours.

and while it’s my fault I didn’t look on the Hotel Palomar website to learn that the hotel charges a refundable $ 100 per night incidentals charge, That was a surprise they charged this as I didn’t want mini-​bar access or their Internet access. Just be aware of this exorbitant daily charge when booking here.
Housekeeping must have learned to knock from same people that teach U.S. Marshals as they are rather loud and don’t give you much time to answer your door. Hang those ‘Do not disturb’ signs if you don’t want them raiding your room and listen to all your neighbors getting visits from housekeeping.
The hotel is currently under construction and updating, the first night after having Rover and Spot growling and barking most of the night over some lovers spat, I was woken to the sounds of carpeting on the floor above being ripped out at 7:30am. The front desk assured this wouldn’t be an issue for the rest of the weekend. The front desk didn’t inform me until later on in the weekend that they will have a jackhammer going off in the lobby. The front desk offered to comp me breakfast which was nice, but if I knew there would be construction noise all weekend long, I would have booked at another hotel.
On MLK Monday I awoke to the sounds of that jackhammer I mentioned above, and the front desk again apologized and offered to move me to another room, now I am at the far end of the hotel, away from the lobby and on the third floor, where else could they move me to not hear that racket?!?
Upon checking out, the concierge was the only staff there to check me out of the room, he asked how my stay was and I basically listed everything above to him, he offered to comp my breakfast that was allegedly comped earlier in the weekend.
The only hotel staff who really did give a sh*t were the doormen and valet drivers, but this alone isn’t a good enough reason to bring my business back here, which is too bad, I’ll be visiting this wonderful city likely once a month for the next couple of years and it likely won’t be at the Hotel Palomar anytime soon.

This place isn’t great. It’s in a great part of town and the lobby is gorgeous and I love that dogs are allowed. They even have a dog bowl and clean up bags already in the room. That’s definitely a plus in my book. However, my boyfriend took me here for my birthday and he was promised that champagne and cupcakes would be in the room. They were not. When he complained to the front desk the girl just shrugged him off. There were two TVs in the bedroom, neither of which worked. When he complained about this to the front desk, the girl just shrugged him off. She just didn’t care. He still had to pay for it all. It is described as «artsy» and there is nothing artsy about this place apart from the lobby. The décor is boring. The bathtub was clogged, which made showering disgusting. A girl banged on our door at 9:45 in the morning to ask when we were leaving, like it was an inconvenience for us to be there. We stayed at the Donovan House, another Klimpton Hotel, last year and had an amazing time. It was better than expected. If you’re going to stay anywhere, don’t choose this place. Go to the Donovan. Brittany at the front desk is amazing and she’ll take care of you.

My stay at the Palomar has been incredibly divine! I was really satisfied with this hotel. The service is so impeccable. They treat you like royalty. As soon as we arrived, they took everything from my car. They took my bags and luggages. They have valet parking so we didn’t have to worry about parking our car and or bringing our stuff ourselves into the room.
My friend explained that the place is rated one of the best in the DC area. It is also the best Kimpton hotel across the world. The feel is super trendy and chic «. They even have special accommodations for pets. It’s so cute that they even got puppy treats and puppy hotel rooms. They even let you bring your pet in your own room. So cute !
They have happy hours and give out free wine from 5pm to 6pm. Everyone at the hotel has the chance to «socialize» and learn each others stories. I find that really unique. It’s a cool place if you’re open minded and want to explore the District.
It is located smack in the centre of The DC Washington area. It is right next to Dupont circle. Everything is super close! You may walk out and there’s literally every convenient store you need!
I love how the downtown area is not that small and stores are not that narrow. Most downtown areas are so condensed and narrow. Resto’s, shops are real tight. However, this area is so modern and spacious. Every store has a lot of room to tour in! The cvs next to the hotel in downtown is so huge. I was literally amazed about its size and the area it is located in. America the giant land of opportunity lol!
Ok so back to my stay at the hotel! If you are in the area, please don’t look any further and chose the Palomar. The front desk staff is super friendly and helpful. They are really easy when it comes to last minute changes. They never gave us any problems. Their soaps/​lotions are from «Etro» this high quality Italian brand that is very unique. woow that’s really awesome! You can spot a high quality hotel when you are in one.
The Urbana bar is awesome and will have to review it next.
The staff was lovely! We had the doormen guide us with directions of where Georgetown was.

Overall, i will definitely stay here the next time I am in the city!

Great location-​walking distance to monuments and Georgetown if you like sightseeing by foot, which we do. Hotel is truly welcoming to people (free wine hour and coffee in the morning) and dogs (treats and water inside the front door). Ben was especially friendly and helpful. We had an upgrade through our Kimpton account and got an Executive King room-​it was spacious and comfortable. We will definitely be back.

Was there last week for two night for the second time. Poor service, no water in the frigid bar and not a special place like they say!:)

Decent location, nice people, problem is I paid for romance package on anniversary trip and received bare minimum. Stale cupcakes instead of strawberries. Champagne with no champagne glasses. Tried to get 50 dollar breakfast credit and busy signal with no call back from front desk. Just disappointing. Nice enough room but just don’t expect above and beyond. Bummer.

I booked a night on Hotel Tonight because my husband and I were going to a concert at 18^th street lounge.
I’ve stayed at Kimpton hotels before and always had positive experiences. It’s not that I had a negative experience, but the hotel itself seems a bit shabby. They need to do some slight upgrades (the robes for example, the décor in the room) just seemed a bit dingy.
The lobby was bustling with people and tourists getting their free wine. I think it starts at 6 pm? Also it’s a dog friendly hotel so if you dislike dogs, this isn’t for you.
Our room had a wet spot on the carpet near the bed. I shudder to think that Fido had an accident and that was the reason for the dampness.
The room itself was small, as one can expect for a last minute Hotel Tonight booking. They have some pretty neat looking rooms with Fuji soaking tubs but those were all sold out.
There is a tiny valet parking area which really only fits a few cars which can be stressful as you’re pulling in if the valet isn’t there.
The front desk associates were pleasant but seemed a bit strained by all the activity. It wasn’t worth the $ 300 I paid for a last minute ‘deal’.
There are likely other places in the District with more charm or better price options for what you’re paying for.

We travel for the Saints games and are fortunate to stay at lots of nice hotels. One of our great experiences was the Palomar in Philadelphia last year. Based on that, I booked 4 king rooms for our group of couples.
Now don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a bad stay by any means. Lots of positives. Staff were unfailingly polite, helpful and just plain nice people. Most of my negatives are focused on the room experience, which I’ll get to.
This is a hip hotel, on the edge of embassy row and with a lot of eclectic shops and restaurants around. They have bikes for loan in the lobby and wine tastings evenings at 5:00. Very cool and fun. Dog friendly and although we didn’t bring ours, it was nice to see them and play with some. Very relaxed atmosphere.
The restaurant breakfast buffet is sub par by any measure, and the menu is just fair. It’s clever but too cute by half, and sometimes you don’t really care if the butter for your toast was locally and sustainably sourced.
To the roms…
So, to begin with, although I had booked about 2 months in advance, we ended up with 2 king and 2 queen rooms. The queen rooms are, well, let’s just say «cozy». You expect smaller rooms in some downtown locations but not even an arm chair would fit in the room.
No coffee maker. Really? Man, I am an old dude and need my coffee in the AM. They do provide it in the lobby but that means getting ready for the day and so on.
Hard to go down in shorts and T-​shirt :-)
Also, not enough receptacles at bedside. One side had a charging station but the other had zip. nada. We worked it out by running a bunch of cords from behind the fridge but seriously folks, this is the 21^st century… phone, tablet, etc (and my CPAP machine).
TV is HD but the broadcast isn’t for the television channels. Watched Eli lose to Brady in the last 30 seconds in standard definition — lousy picture. C’mon man!
The bathroom is decent size but the sink/​vanity is too small for my sweetie and she ended up sitting on the bed using a big mirror to do her makeup thing. And speaking of bathrooms, can’t we put a little fan in the vents? You know, so the mirror doesn’t fog like London in winter?
Bedding was great and so were the pillows. Overall the rooms are nicely done but as I said, just small. ish. Can’t do much about size I know but some of these other things are easy fixes.
By the way, Darian Yates is the Front Desk Manager and a very nice guy. I appreciate his hospitality throughout the stay. Everyone was great. I’d stay again but insist on a king or suite.

. It’s one of those deals where they don’t tell you the name of the hotel until you’ve paid. I couldn’t have been happier with the Palomar.
P Street two blocks from Dupont Circle is a great location. The hotel has style. My room was gigantic. My 6^th floor room on the back side of the hotel was super quiet. The staff at the front desk and in the restaurant were terrific.
Nitpick:
– The lights on either side of the bathroom mirror were beautiful but too dim for shaving.

Free wine hour, yoga mats and animal print bathrobes, free Public brand bike rental, comfortable & spacious rooms and cozy beds. Great attention to detail in their décor — mixing patterns and colors in fun and inviting ways.
This is our second time staying at a Kimpton hotel and it won’t be our last.

Stayed with friends for a college reunion weekend. Very accommodating when booking. Treated our party/​event like a VIP when it wasn’t. Room was spacious with 2 queen beds. Not doubles! Awesome dark shades to keep the morning sun from coming in when we wanted to sleep in.
Staff and front desk were helpful and friendly. We had our nails and hair blown out around the corner. Great market to get snacks and wine.
The wifi thing is always annoying. Free in the lobby. Was charged a $ 15 hotel tax which seemed redundant to my room rate.
Had a great pasta dish at Urbana. Not great cell or wifi there and hard to see the TV.
Great location close to DuPont shops and restaurants. Walked to Georgetown and the White house.
We didn’t go to the wine happy hour but everyone seemed to enjoy it. No roof deck. Would return.

It’s a nice hotel with great amenities. I loved the gym. The breakfast in the morning with the restaurant that’s connected to it was great!!!
But the staff was rude and looked unhappy all the time. I am huge on customer service and they did not provide the best of it at all. The best customer service I had were to the men Carrying my bags in and out of the taxis. I probably will never stay here again specifically for this reason.
Smile more, it’s contagious just as contagious as bad energy. Get it together!!!

The hotel is gorgeous and the staff are very helpful. Also, location wise it is perfect; right off DuPont Circle (metro), next to Starbucks and few blocks away from a 24hr CVS, not to mention all the restaurants and bars in the area. This is my second time staying here and I am sure there will be many more to come.

I was here recently for work and this hotel works as it has a great location, a comfy bed, lots of fluffy towels and really good A/​C. Coming from Texas this is essential! Glad to see it there. Now let’s crank that A/​C down, down, down!
Where it doesn’t work so well is with the hidden charges. I checked in and was asked for a credit card to secure things (Okay cool. Whatevs. This is normal.). What isn’t normal was I checked my credit card balance the next day and there was a $ 300 pending charge on my account! OH.NO.THEY.DIDN’T!
I went down during a break in my work conference and was fortunate to discuss this with the manager. My ire was because this $ 100 a day charge for incidentals was not discussed with me. Not once. The staff was essentially, «Just hand over your card» when checking in.
Also, they didn’t discuss the quirky «free» Internet option. You have to call down to the front desk and get a code to pop in so that it’s free, or you can pay, or you can get «free» Internet if you are member of the Hotel rewards program (ehem! I’m calling bs on that).
And lastly, the death blow. I discovered a $ 65 charge on my card a few days after I checked out. This was after the manager told one of his staff to waive all charges to my card. This was refunded after I called, but yeah…
There’s the skinny.

I travel a lot for work and so I stay in my share of hotels throughout the year. Hotel Palomar shoots straight to the top as one of the most pleasant hotels I’ve stayed in.
One of the things that is frustrating about hotel travel is that frequently the fancier and more expensive the hotel, the more they nickel-​and-​dime you for every little thing and the more they rest on their laurels in terms of comfort, cleanliness, and service. It is also hard to find a hotel that combines fun and whimsy with a sense of elegance. Hotel Palomar achieves all of that. For probably the first time, the platonic ideal in my head of what a downtown hotel stay should be actually matched the reality.
I should say: I got a very reasonable rate on my room by booking last-​minute with a popular phone app. The hotel name was not hidden and I booked this room based on my research about the hotel. Since rates here can go as high as $ 359 for the same class of room that I booked, I feel it’s important to note that I am judging my stay based on a price that was very far below that.
By signing up for Kimpton’s free loyalty program, you make yourself eligible for free wifi and a $ 10 minibar credit. A nice touch, and their minibar prices weren’t astronomical, either.
The bed was comfy and the faux-​animal skin throw on top was a witty touch, as were the animal-​print robes hanging in the closet. The closet also contained a yoga mat and a Kimpton-​branded umbrella. The clock radio featured Bluetooth and decent sound, so I was able to connect it to my phone easily to listen to some tunes. The bathroom was spacious enough and, like the rest of the room, very clean.
Every member of the staff whom I interacted with was pleasant and well-​informed. I got the sense that Kimpton hires people who are really serious about the hospitality business and want to deliver a great guest experience.
I didn’t experience the 3pm snack bar in the lobby, but the 5pm hosted wine social was a nice touch, with white and red wine, sangria, crackers, and assorted olives. The lobby itself is inviting and nicely decorated, with comfortable seating and plenty of outlets for charging your devices.
The location is great, just a few blocks away from the metro and right smack dab in the middle of Dupont Circle. It’s very convenient for exploring DC.
The only drawback to my room is that my view was terrible. It was a view of the parking lot. Didn’t bother me terribly, especially since I got that room because it was one of the rooms available for a very early check-​in. I got checked in at around 9:30 in the morning, which was awesome!
All in all, I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others. Based on my experience here, I would also stay at another Kimpton hotel in a heartbeat.

Chic & trendy hotel with a small front desk reception area which tends to get a little crowded at times. We got the standard room which was kinda small to our liking. The bathroom had no ventilation fan (sucks if you need to share bathrooms with a mate). Room was clean and we stayed on the 8^th floor. Rooms were quiet and peaceful. We didn’t have a dandy view of anything but the back of a building. Overall we got a special rate and I would recommend this place to anyone that wants to stay within walking distance to nearby cafes, restaurants and shops, and DuPont circle. This hotel is also pet friendly so be prepared to hear some barking and dogs walking around the hotel. Lol

Great location, comfortable and luxurious rooms. I loved the fun extras, like high-​end bath products and animal print robes. The hotel seems to be converted from an old apartment building, so the layout of the rooms is a bit odd (mine had an alcove that was basically unused space) — but I loved the little leftover details, like exposed brick and intricate moldings.
I only stayed for a night, but I’d had a particularly long travel day and appreciated being able to get an AMAZING night’s sleep (after refueling at the Five Guys down the street) in a comfortable and cozy room.

We have always had excellent experiences with Kimpton properties. This time was no exception. To start off, communication with the hotel prior to our stay was very friendly, professional & helpful. The staff at the Palomar during our stay was outstanding. Everyone was genuinely friendly and a great representation of what I have come to expect from Kimpton.
Our room was impeccable. The beds & pillows were extremely comfortable. The bathroom was ample, with good lighting and fluffy towels. The shower had very good water pressure. Although, the water temperature did fluctuate at times.
The afternoon Wine Down Hour is great. They offer a nice red & white wine plus, during our stay, they also had Sake. There is also coffe & tea available in the lobby each morning.
The free WiFi works well. The usb box on the nightstand was very helpful.
There are a few, very minimal, reasons for my 4 vs 5 rating.
~ Upon our arrival, our a/​c was set at 65 but the temperature in the room was 78. A quick call and the technician came to fix it. It did start blowing cooler air, however the room never really felt cool. Fortunately I had my travel fan with me.
~ The doors to the rooms are very heavy. No matter how softly you try to close the door, it’s still pretty loud. So imagine the noise when people are not as considerate.
~ I don’t know if we just had loud neighbors, but I could hear entire conversations from next door. It had a connecting door, so maybe that’s the reason. Talking about connecting doors, I woke up in the middle of the night to someone messing with the connecting door. Maybe they had a child? Or they thought it was a closet?
All in all, we had a fantastic stay. The location can’t be beat. The staff is friendly & welcoming. We usually stay in the DuPont area and the Palomar will probably be my go to, home away from home. A quick walk to the Metro, many dining options in the area and Georgetown is walking distance (about a mile or so). Although, since we usually go to Georgetown after a long day of walking, we tend to just grab a Car2Go.

I stayed here for one night during my most recent trip to DC in January. The Palomar is conveniently located near Dupont Metro station, so coming here even in the frigid DC cold was not too bad. If I could describe the Palomar, it would be both swanky, posh, yet intimate and cozy.
I stayed at the Palomar on MLK weekend, so as you can imagine the city AND the hotel were both packed. I checked in at around 530PM, during the prime time of their happy hour… and it was like a mad house. Check-​in was pretty fast and easy despite the large crowd in the lobby and sitting area. Gosh — there so many people in there, sipping wine and pairing their vino with nuts, olives, and fruits! I had never seen a Kimpton hotel’s happy hour *that* packed. I wanted to grab a glass for myself to drink, but sadly I was not brave enough to snake my through the happy hour crowd. Definitely looked fun and festive.
As an Inner Circle member, I did get a «next category» upgrade to an executive king room, which was nice since it’s a bit more spacious than the standard king room. Didn’t get a suite (as I had hoped), but it’s understandable given the holiday weekend. I was expecting a lot of outside noise, but surprisingly the room I stayed in was quite quiet. Bed was comfy. Bathroom had the typical nice-​smelling Etro toiletries that the Palomar hotels are known for. Free wi-​fi and raid the minibar amenities with being a Karma Rewards member.
Of note, this was the first Kimpton that I stayed at where I also used the gym/​fitness room. The gym facilities were very nice and clean, similar to what you might find at a nice apartment complex. They provide water (with cups), fruit, and complimentary headphones (in case you forgot yours and want to listen to music). It was pretty quiet in the fitness room, so you can get a lot of privacy while you do your run or weightlifting.
Overall, I had a good solid experience here. I utilized most of the amenities here, with the exception of wine hour. During my next stay to DC, I wouldn’t mind coming back here again!

Klasse Hotel. Nicht so groß, fast schon familiär. Gemütlich eingerichtet. (Gas-​) Kamin in der Lobby. Netter Weinempfang am Nachmittag in der Lobby. Rundum gut.
